Find Me, Sprout.

Summary:

Looey fantasizes about his forbidden love to be able to sleep through Valentines Day.

Work Text:

2:15 AM. Looey couldn’t sleep, which has been a recurring theme nowadays. As Valentines Day approaches, Looey is reminded of the special day between lovers and close friends alike which celebrates the joy of a relationship. A relationship Looey just wasn’t fit for, a relationship Looey didn’t have, wouldn’t have, couldn’t have… It’s not that Looey didn’t want a relationship, it’s that the only toon he’s ever loved will never love him back; a harsh reality Looey has to remind himself of daily.

Oh but who captured Looey’s heart so badly? Why of course… none other than the most perfect toon in GardenView; Sprout Seedly. The main who makes everything run smoothly, who takes on all the responsibility, who always puts others above himself, whos always kind, caring, and oh so compassionate… the main who fell for a different common by the name of Cosmo.

At first it was easy, no big deal in fact, for Looey to ignore his feelings. Sprout always paid more attention to Cosmo anyways, but the more Sprout cared for Looey so tenderly when he got a chance, the deeper Looey dug himself into the hole of no return. That, and the more it hurt to dig with rubber claws, knowing nothing lay underneath. That, and the farther he got from Sprout’s affection the more the loneliness overflowed out of his fingers as if ichor were to flood out of his popped claws; a result of digging so harshly, a result of yearning. It continued on and on until finally Looey caved in, curling in on himself at the bottom of a trench he dug with ichor-stained claws and watered down tears.

No one would come to save him. No one cared about him that way, and no one would think to look in the pit of loneliness in the middle of Looey’s soul when he smiled just a bit less and the shine in his eyes was gone. No one… but Sprout. Nobody cares that deeply but Sprout… but Sprout only cared where his heart was… and his heart was with Cosmo, not Looey.

So here he was, sleeping alone another Valentines night while his two troupe members cuddled themselves away in one of their rooms, leaving Looey completely by himself. He sighs, turning over in his bed as memories of Sprout replay in his head. Of course, one in particular was always Looey’s favorite. A public joke, and not even a very good one either was enough for Sprout to overhear and laugh at from across the room. That laugh… It sounded like a song made from the wind rustling over leaves after it had just rained. Simple, yet so enchanting.

Looey smiled softly at the memory, nuzzling his face into his pillow and letting himself relax. He imagined Sprout being beside him, that the warmth of his blanket was Sprout cuddling him and imagining his soft voice against his ear whispering words of affection. Then somehow, just for a minute, a simple fantasy was enough to comfort him during these hard times. Letting himself get comfortable, Looey slips off into a small dream which he knows would remain untampered by Astro; a dream where anything would be possible, a dream where for a moment- Looey would have his soulmate.
