She can feel Luffy’s eyes on her, watching her work.
He’s perched on his favorite spot aboard the Going Merry. The sheep figurehead is his favorite, of course, because it's the place on the ship closest to adventure. It's also the most dangerous spot on the ship, especially for a devil fruit user, even with the safety ropes they've put in place, but that's never stopped Luffy from doing anything.
Nami, meanwhile, has her navigation and cartography tools set up more sensibly on Merry’s foredeck. It's one of the quieter places on the ship, away from the hustle and bustle of the galley, and from tinkering metal and the grunting of grueling workouts on the main deck. On the aftdeck, she enjoys the shade of her treasured tangerine trees. Here, she basks in the warmth of her captain.
They’re sailing the infamous Grand Line, following the course charted by the late pirate king, chasing their dreams of wealth, fame, and power. Nami has always wanted to travel the world. She can’t think of a better person to do that with, than the one right in front of her.
She looks up to meet his gaze, and from beneath the brim of his beloved straw hat, Luffy smiles at her, radiant. Nami grins back at him.
