Work Text:
Logan notices how much you help with the mutant kids with their powers, even the ones who are very aggressive and wary of everyone.
Once they see you aren’t bad, they warm up to you. You’re always there at their lowest, encouraging them until they feel better about themselves, and they trust the rest of the adults.
You even help around the mansion, like helping out in missions, either going with Storm, Scott, Jean, or Logan, sometimes occasionally Kurt, Rogue, Bobby, Kitty, and Gambit, if they decide to be involved with the missions. But if you’re not on missions, you sometimes clean around the mansion, even though there are maids, and sometimes help make dinner for everybody in the mansion. Of course, Logan is by your side in the kitchen, taste-testing everything.
He had an idea for the weekend; he was gonna make it all about you, so he decided to search for you. He checks the living room to see if you’re watching your movies when you have free time, but there’s no sign of you, so he goes to your room.
He knocks on the door. “Hey, bub?”
He turns the knob and walks in, but doesn’t see you, and even checks the bathroom that’s connected to the bedroom.
Sure, he can sniff your scent, but the two of you promised not to, since you both have super smell, so it can be more thrilling to bump into each other. He decides to check his room, but on the way there, he spots a kid, all sweaty, coming out of their room, bringing their water bottle with them, and that’s when he realizes you are in the danger room.
Once Logan got to the training room, he leaned against the door frames, crossing his arms and watching what was going on. Lately, you made the mutant kids do more combat moves without their powers, so they don’t always rely on them.
It looked like the two kids who were on the mat had been at it for a while. The kid with the blue shirt tried to strike the other kid with the white shirt on the jaw, but it got blocked, and the kid with the blue shirt then tried to knee the other kid. The kid in the white had the power to suddenly flip the other kid on the ground pinning him down instead. “Huh, the kid is usually down on his ass, he got good.” He whispers to himself, and a couple of seconds later, they are done.
The kid was happy about what he did. “Mrs. Howlett, Mrs. Howlett, did you see what I did? I was able to flip Cody this time!”
Logan was going to leave, but he smirked as he heard the kid calling you by his last name and stayed.
You high-five the kid. “I saw, and cause of that, you guys can take a break, good job.”
As the kid walks out of the training room, Logan speaks up. “You finally stood your ground, good job, Sam.”
To which Sam was very much surprised since it’s very rare anyone can impress Logan, he high-fives him, and Sam leaves the room.
Logan then walks behind you and hugs you.
“Logan!” You say, and you turn around.
“I had to see my favorite girl,” Logan says.
“Well, as you can see, I’ve been working them all day.” You say.
“I see Mrs. Howlett.” Logan grins after saying that.
You shrug. “They’ve been calling me your last name for a couple of weeks, and I don’t mind them saying that.”
“I love it, and by the way, for the weekend we are going to my cabin, so text me when you’re done being busy in the mansion,” Logan informs you.
You nod. “Ok, it’s also a good thing I don’t need to pack anymore since I stored clothes over there.”
Luckily for Logan, you’ve been buying extra clothes just for the cabin. “Definitely is.”
Logan kisses you, which gets a playful ‘ew’ from the kids.
You laugh between the kiss, break the kiss, and turn to the kids. “Just cause you’re on break doesn’t mean to goof around, you guys need to stretch.”
Logan chuckles. “Love you, sweetheart. I’ll see you later.”
You told him you love him back as he left the training room.
He leaves the mansion and heads to the flower shop for rose petals, and looks at the flowers as the worker tries to help him.
“You think I can get the purple scabios, the silk rose, and white and yellow roses in the vase?”
The worker goes to collect the flowers and the vase. Before putting the flowers in the vase, she shows the flowers to him. “This is what you want, right?”
Logan looks at the flowers. “Yes-“
He sees another flower. “Actually, what’s that flower?” Logan points at the flower.
The worker looks at where he pointed. “Those are purple dahlias.” She informs Logan.
“Actually, replace the purple scabios with the purple dahlias, it looks better.” He says, scratching his chin.
As the worker put the flowers in the vase, Logan awkwardly chuckled. “It feels like I’ve been in this store forever. I want everything to be perfect.”
The lady looks at Logan, then back at the flowers she was fixing. “You’re already doing a good thing, getting her flowers, most boyfriends don’t do this unless they made her mad, so I think she’s very lucky to have you.” She smiles warmly at him.
He thinks to himself. “More like I’m lucky to have her, cause she’s the only person who can put me in my place without being afraid and dealing with my stubborn ass.”
Then she finishes making it perfect, Logan pays for the rose petals, and the bouquet of mixed flowers.
Then he goes to the grocery store to buy the recipe for penne alla vodka. He obviously didn’t need to buy any vodka since he already had some at his cabin, and he also bought some candles to set the mood.
After he bought what he needed, you texted him that you were done training the kids. He had a slight idea to keep you busy while he set up the romantic space while you’re still at the cabin.
Instead, he went to the cabin to put the flowers in the kitchen sink cabinet with the food. Then he went to pick you up at the mansion. When you both arrived back at the cabin, he led you to the living room. “Watch my favorite movie while I cook something for you, and no, you can’t join me, it’ll be a surprise,” Logan says, cause he knew you would’ve asked to see him cook.
You sit down, he puts a cowboy movie on, and goes back to the kitchen.
Logan then goes to the cabinet where he hid the flowers and food. After taking the food out to the table, he checks on the flowers to see if they’re fine.
“When I’m done cooking, you won’t be hiding anymore.” As Logan talks to himself and closes the cabinet.
He starts following the instructions he found online for making pasta penne alla vodka, carefully double-checking each step and even watching a video of someone making the pasta.
While in the middle of cooking, you hug behind Logan, burying your head behind his back.
“I swear you’re like the kids at the mansion, always so impatient.” He shakes his head while slightly laughing.
“I want to watch you cook since it smells good.” You say.
Then Logan walks you back to the living room.
“It won’t be long, I promise,” Logan says. You didn’t give him a response, just a pout, acting sad. “I love you, baby.” he then kisses your head, amused by your reaction, and leaves to cook again.
After a couple of minutes of cooking, it’s finally done and ready to eat. He puts it on a plate and places it on the kitchen table with cups of wine for both of you. He opened the cabinet, took out the vase, and placed it in the middle of the table. Then he lit the candle, placed it on the table, and finally scattered the roses, making sure they were spread out.
Logan walks back to the living room. “Dinner is served.”
You got up as Logan told you and walked to the kitchen. “Finally.” Then Logan goes behind you and covers your eyes. “What are you doing?” As you giggle.
“It’s supposed to be a surprise, that’s why I’m doing this.” As he walks you to the kitchen, you get to your seat, he pulls out the chair for you, and places you behind it. “Sit and still close your eyes,” Logan commands. You keep your eyes closed as he removes his hand from your face. You sit down on the chair, and he pushes your chair to the table before taking his seat across from you. “Ok, you can open your eyes now,” Logan says.
You open your eyes and see the food, the candles, the rose petals, and the flowers. “Lo,” you say in awe. Logan smiles as he sees you admire everything. “I love the flowers so much.” As you touch the mixed flowers.
“Well, I wanted them to look good as you, but the poor lady had to deal with me being indecisive.” He says, then he starts to eat.
“I bet. I would’ve loved to see how long you kept them waiting for.” Then you start to eat the pasta. “This is good, didn’t know you could make this.” You say as you continue to eat.
“I just looked up something to eat and found this,” Logan says, then looks at you.
You set your wine down after drinking. “Well, it’s a good dinner.”
After a couple of minutes of eating, Logan told you he’ll be back, and he went upstairs to the bedroom and placed rose petals on the bed and floor all the way to the bathroom that’s connected to the room.
Logan calls your name, and you come up and see the rose petals on the floor and the bed.
“I’m gonna fill the tub up with water since we’re gonna be in there together. Can you get the towels in the hallway closet, please?” Logan asks you.
You nod. “I can do that.” You leave the room.
He goes to the bathroom and fills the tub with warm water for both of you. Then he has an idea to grab the bottle of bubble bath and set it aside by the tub. He takes off his clothes, gets in the tub, and sits down while also grabbing the bottle. He’s about to open the lid, but he suddenly remembers getting experimented on.
It’s like he felt the coldness of the table, being strapped down, the needle being inserted in him, and the water rising while feeling the eyes of scientists on him.
He starts to breathe heavily. “Shit, not right now,” Logan says to himself.
He squeezed his eyes shut and opened them again, hoping it would go away, but it didn’t. He then hears the imaginary drill and begins to mumble to himself.
You come back, not seeing yet the state Logan is in. “Took me a while since the closet is a mess, but I think I’ll take the yellow towel and you take the blue towel.” You say, looking at the towel.
“I didn’t sign up for this,” Logan mumbles to himself.
“You’re right, yellow is more your thing.” You say, then finally look at Logan and look at him in worry as you see him panicking, his body shaking, and talking to himself.
You drop the towels and kneel on the floor beside him. “Baby?” As you tried to call him.
“That’s enough, we’ve done enough!” He mumbles to himself as he remembers that he joined a group of people, thinking they had good intentions.
“Logan? Logan! Logan!” As you shook him
Then his claws came out. You look at his claws and then back at him.
“You said we were doing a good thing, but this is murder!” Logan yells out.
“Logan, please snap out of this! You’re safe here in the cabin; no one can harm you, even if they try. I’ll be there to defend you.” You plead.
Then he snapped out of it, saw his claws out and dropped the bottle of bubble bath, retracted his claws, and saw you with a worried look.
“Sweetheart?” He says, then touches your cheek with his trembling hands to make sure you’re real.
“You were having flashbacks, baby.” You say, and can see the fear in his eyes.
“My mind went back to the fucking lab, the innocent lives I took cause of how feral I was after what they did, and also me joining different groups of people who I thought had good intentions.” He then let out a shaky breath. “I need to get up. I feel like I’m trapped when I was with these people and noticed how they weren’t good people, so they put me in a cage like a wild animal.” Logan says.
You get up and grab the towel. “Get up so we can move to the bed.” You say.
He gets out of the tub, and you wrap the towel around his waist.
You follow him behind. “Wait, I forgot to drain the water,” Logan says.
He tries to walk back.
But you stop him. “Don’t worry, baby, I got it. Just sit on the bed.”
He didn’t speak; he just turned away and sat on the bed. You then go back to the bathroom to drain the water and put back the bottle of bubble bath under the sink.
You go back to the bedroom, see Logan sitting on the edge of the bed, and you sit next to him.
“I ruined our romantic night.” He mumbles, feeling bad.
“You didn’t ruin anything. I’m only worried about you.” You say, and then rub your hand on his back.
He looks at the floor and swallows hard. “I’m a monster.” He whispers.
“That’s not true, and you know that since on missions you could focus on beating the bad guys up and not care about the people, but you save them from falling buildings or about to be killed by the bad people. A monster wouldn’t do that,” you reassure Logan.
He doesn’t say anything for a couple of minutes, but then he hugs you, to which you hug him back. He inhales your scent to calm himself down.
“All I wanted to do was appreciate my girl, but this happened.” He talks to himself.
You hug him tighter, and he nuzzles against your neck too, and you can feel his stubble.
It feels like hours as you guys sit there.
“Can I ask how long you’ve had these types of episodes?” You hesitantly ask.
He lets go and looks at you. “I’ve been having them at times, but they aren’t as bad as they used to be. But a bad episode like that, maybe 3 years…2 weeks before you came to the mansion,” Logan says.
Then he presses his forehead against yours. “You’re my anchor baby, you’re the only person who loves me through the broken pieces of me, you keep me tethered. Any other woman would’ve told me to man up since I’m the Wolverine, but you comfort me, and fuck, I need you more than anything,” Logan says, his voice breaking a little.
You smile lightly at what he said. “Well, I wanted to do something after seeing you like that. I couldn’t stand there and watch; I wanted to help.”
He grabs your waist. “Which you did help me when I was panicking, you were here and helping me, that’s all it takes,” Logan says, then pulls back. “Now let’s go to bed.”
You nod. “Ok, but I’ll get you clothes to sleep in.”
You stand up and go to his drawer to pick out the clothes.
You return to him with his white tank top, boxers, and sweatpants, and hand them over. After he puts on his shirt, boxers, and pulls up his sweatpants, he looks at you. “Sorry for ruining tonight, darling,” Logan says, feeling bad.
You reassure him. “It’s ok, baby, we can always plan these again, don’t worry.”
“You’re right, we can. I’m just lucky to have you.” Logan says and smiles at you, then goes to lie down on the bed.
You lie next to him, and he cuddles you while wrapping his arm protectively around you.
“Just hold me, I know I’m being needy as fuck and-”
You then interrupt Logan and grab his face to look at you. “You’re not being needy for what just happened to you. I’m supporting you through all this. Remember what you said when we first met, when you found out we had the same mutant power? We’re sticking together.” You say, and pull your hands back.
Logan was tense, but relaxed after you said that. “I love you so fucking much, baby.” He says after a few moments of silence.
“I love you too, Logan.” You say that Logan hugs you again, and you hug him back.
“Say it again, please,” he pleaded.
He’s desperate for you to say it again since it always grounds him.
“I love you, James Logan Howlett.” You say again.
He hugs you tightly again, holding you, planning on not letting you go, his fingers digging into you, his breath shaking against your neck, then his body shakes from the silent cries he’s letting out. It breaks your heart a little since he very rarely cries, so you rub his back until he calms down. You then tangle your legs with his legs.
Logan starts to fall asleep from the warmth of your guy’s body and feeling your heartbeat against him. When you hear his light snores, you fall asleep knowing he seems better.
The next morning, you wake up to Logan still clinging to you, his face relaxed in his sleep. You decide to play with his hair, and he stirs a little, a smile forming as he’s still asleep. Then you decide to grab some of the petals around you, place them on his hair, lightly laughing, trying not to wake Logan up, and kiss his cheek.
You hear your phone buzz on the nightstand, and you turn around, slightly moved away.
Immediately, you got pulled in. “Don’t answer that, let’s keep cuddling,” Logan says, his voice raspy from crying and waking up.
You then turn to face Logan, who’s awake now.
“What if they need me?” You say.
“If it’s something important and you miss it, I’ll take the heat,” Logan says. “How did you sleep?” Logan asks.
“I slept fine, what about you, baby?” You curiously asked, after everything that happened last night.
He gives you a quick kiss. “I slept well since I woke up to you still being by my side.”
Logan then turns on his back and runs his hand through his hair, finds the rose petal, grabs it, and puts it on you. “That’s much better.” He smirks as you laugh, then he looks at you seriously after a few seconds. “You know, yesterday you handled everything perfectly, even though I had other stuff planned for us,” Logan says. You look at him, curious about what other things he was talking about.
He knows what you’re wondering, and he continues. “We were gonna have a nice bubble bath while listening to music, and after that, I was gonna give a nice massage so you would’ve been relaxed for us slow dancing to music…”
He then swallowed hard and looked to see if you were paying attention. You still were paying attention to him, and he went back to looking at the ceiling. “Then at the perfect moment of us dancing, I would’ve proposed to you.” He then looks back at you.
That caught you off guard since you and Logan never really talked about marriage, maybe only once, and a quick conversation about having kids.
You sat up quickly. “Wait, what? Are you serious?” As you look at Logan.
He gets up, goes to his drawer, pulls out a tiny box, and turns around to look at you.
He drops to one knee, revealing a polished silver band with a kite-cut-shaped sandstone. It was black, but also a hint of sparkling galaxy shimmering through the specks on the ring was perfect, so perfect for the woman he loves.
It’s like time stopped cause you kept staring at the ring in shock, hoping it’s not a dream.
“You proved to me last night you would go through anything with me, including helping me past my demons, and anyone would leave me alone until I wasn’t out of my mind, and I absolutely knew again that’s why I wanna marry you. I know for sure in a different universe, if I had my mutation and you were a regular person, I would’ve fallen for you, cause how amazing you are. Cliche how it fucking is, I wanna be a better man for you.” Then he takes a shaky breath. “Will you marry me?”
You were in shock with Logan’s speech, only looking at him and the ring, which made him more nervous waiting for your answer.
You nod your head. “Yes, I’ll marry you!” and goes to hug him, almost knocking him down.
He pulls back, and he slides the ring on you, even with his hands shaking, and you start to tear up. “It’s beautiful, Logan,” you say as you look at it.
He nervously chuckles as he stands up. “I might’ve forced Storm a couple of months ago to go with me to this jewelry place cause I liked some other ring I saw online, but knew you would love this one when I came across the ring. Kitty knew something was up. She kept annoying me,until I finally gave in and showed her the ring. That’s why the kids at the mansion kept calling you by my last name, cause she couldn’t keep her damn mouth shut.” Logan says, explaining about the ring.
You wrap your arm around him. “I still love it, and it was still a surprise for me.”
Then you kiss him.
The kiss starts to turn into a heavy makeout session until you break the kiss.
You press your forehead against his. “You know what we should do since I’m your fiancé now?” You say and lean back.
“What should we do?” Logan curiously asked.
“I want to see my soon-to-be husband chopping trees down so we can sit down by the fire tonight.” You say.
Logan nods at that and goes to the closet to change into a flannel and jeans. “I like your thinking, let’s do it.”
After he finished changing, you and Logan made your way outside.
You sat down near Logan and watched as he cut some logs for the fire he was going to make. You couldn't help but steal glances down at your ring, your fingers tracing over the band.
"How bout I make some hot chocolate once we are inside and warming up by the fire?" You ask, the smile on your lips growing wider.
He nods, of course agreeing to your idea.
After a while, he had cut enough wood, so you both decided to head back inside. As the daylight faded into night, Logan ordered some pizza for dinner. You sat together enjoying each other’s company, eating, drinking, and occasionally playing with your ring.
Logan noticed and remembered something. “I forgot to say this, but inside the ring it’s engraved with your name with my last name, and with the date we started to take things seriously.”
You take off the ring, spot the engraving inside, and smile at it. You get up, pull your phone out of your pocket, and put on a slow romantic song to enjoy a slow dance, recalling Logan mentioning that’s what he wanted to do with you earlier.
To which Logan gets up, and you pull him close, he holds your hand as his other hand is on your back. While your other hand is on his shoulder, and he leans his forehead against yours, making you both close your eyes. Slow dance all night, happy about the new beginning.
