Hades had heard about Olympus’s new golden boy.
Though he never personally met the younger sun god he had heard of his exploits from both immortals and dead mortals alike.
By the time his greatest exploits had finally reached Hades, Apollo had large cult following. Yet Hades paid neither him or his sister any mind as he was busy running the underworld.
In fact, going to Olympus was an extremely rare occurrence for the god. However, both Apollo and Artemis had gained an amazing reputation and a vast cult following that they were promoted as the 11th an 12th Olympians.
Tapping his foot, Haded looked around which led to glancing at his watch nth time he had done so since he arrived.
Since Minthe excused herself to the bathroom it had only increased by the minute.
Tap tap tap
The tapping increased, he walked around aimlessly looking for a distraction.
“If I had known they were going to take this long I would have stayed in the underworld and done more paperwork.” He grumbled.
His spine shivered, the 3rd time in the few minutes he had stood there.
Rumors circulated around anyone with any notoriety, a mistake could flame a controversy.
With a small piece of paper in his hand twisted. Sighing Hades shook off the nerves.
Walking around the temple an incomplete mural caught his eye purple was what he could see from what he could see. Gold and silver seemed to accent the two figures being painted on.
Foot steps echoed on the floor becoming louder as they approached him.
A voice rang out.
“Your majesty, King Hades I greet thee” a voice gruffly said.
Hades turned, a goddess with a cool toned purple skin was what he was greeted with.
‘Artemis’ he guessed as she wore a famous fine tunic that only went down to her knees.
“King Hades I am Artemis, though we haven’t met yet I’ve heard of you and your tales.” A polite smile graced her lips as she held out her hand.
Hades took her hand with a strained smile, shaking it swiftly.
He noted her hands were rougher than other goddesses.
“Little goddesses it is a pleasure to meet you, I congratulate you for being part of the Olympians only special beings get to be one.”
Her eyes scanned him analyzing him before looking to the side where the hall is.
*BANG*
A loud crash broke the silence. Both whipped their head towards the sound.
‘Shit Minthe’
“Excuse me-“
“Excuse me-“
The two overlapping voices said.
“I have to return to-“
“I have to go-“
They both stared at different directions before Artemis parted with a quick goodbye.
Hades finger snaked up to his temple rubbing it deeply before sauntering towards Minthe.
‘Why did I bring her it’s always a disaster, she just seems to like the attention.’ Hades with a grimace.
“Hades someone knocked m-“
“Why do you always do this!”
Her eyes widened as she gaped. Hands on her hips. Her eyes narrowed, hardened before turning cold.
“What do you mean I don’t-“
Hades scoffs before cutting her off
“Minthe cut the bullshit you just love embarrassing me in front of the others don’t you!” He hissed out venom apparent from anyone.
Minthe shook her face face contorting furiously. Her hands gesticulating as she spoke. “Are you serious!?” Her tone amping up.
“You always pull shit like this in front of my family right, to prove something, huh!”
She seethe before gritting out “Really, you know your family hates me no matter what!”
“Minthe calm down that’s not true they don’t like how you you act crazy.”
Minthe stills her shoulders stiffen before she turns her head at Hades. Her eyes darken before fury descends upon her face.
“Crazy?” Her voice uneven shaking when she spits out that word with the force of a woman wronged.
Her lips trembled before bellowing out “ IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK I AM-“
Hades quickly cut her off “Minthe calm yourself, you’ll make a fool of me and yourself.” he said firmly.
“SOME GOD PUSHING ME INTO THAT VASE HADES, DON’T CALL ME CRAZY FOR REACTING.”
Hades paused. ‘What and amusing thought, what God would waste their time pushing a nymph.” Hades shoulders relaxed.” Gods don’t waste their energy on petty matters such as pushing nymphs. At most she was probably just shoved.’
Chuckling at the thought his eyes focus on her.
Her face contorted into a deep rage, ready to explode at his dismissive expression, and laugh.
“YOU-“ her full diaphragm put into yelling out that word.
“Tadpole,” Hades tone calm yet condescending. “ if you don’t calm down I won’t get you that purse you want and I will deduct money from your pay cheques to pay off that vase.” Hades smiled knowingly, this calms her instantly by making her think rationally.
Her face instantly dropped, her shoulders sagged down, the tips of her hair turning liquid like. Her hands tightly gripping into her arms.
“Now that your calm explain to me what you think happened and we will sort this out as if nothing happened.” Hades sighed out.
Minthe grip on her arms turned iron clad, nails digging into her skin about to pierce into skin. Her breath uneven as she takes a deep inhale of the air around her attempting to calm her self. The corners of her eyes glistened as she quickly blinks.
After a moment of trying to bring herself together and Hades leaning into her with a pointed expression she croaks out, “Some… some purple asshole pushed me into that vase.”
Hades eyebrows knitted together.
Minthe takes a steadying breath before continuing. “It was when I was coming back to the bathroom, I was trying to find you.” she forced out as she tried to swallow more air down.
“I doubt Zeus would push you into a vase.” Hades said skeptically.
Her story didn’t make sense to him, Zeus doesn’t care for Minthe.
“It wasn’t Zeus!” Minthe quickly adds her eyes darting around her voice hushed.
“It was some other God!” Minthe firmly insisted.
Hades wracked through his brain to think of another purple deity.
“Was it Astraeus?” Hades asked confused.
Minthe’s face turned bewildered. “Who?”
Hades sighed as if she asked him the easiest question ever.
“Bald, light purple. You know the titan of dusk.” An eye-roll accompanied the explanation.
“No, he was a darker shade of purple and had pitch black hair on his head!” A firm tone Minthe expressed with conviction.
“Then it was likely a minor god, tracking him down would be a waste of time.”
Minthe purses her lips, her hands fall to her sides abruptly. Head turning to the side and her hair blocks her eyes. Her breathing had calmed as she slowly spoke.
“Why-“
“GO TO YOUR SEATS NOW THE AUDITORIUM IS OPEN I. I REPEAT-“ a voice cut her off.
Hades took Minthe’s hand as he lead her to their seats.
As they arrived at their seats Hades spotted Hera.
As they took a seat Hades lifted his arm giving a wave and a smile.
Hera noticed him a small smile graced her lips. As she turned the Goddess spotted Minthe beside him. Her face turned into thinly veiled disgust before turning away from them.
Minthe’s shoulders tensed up, though no expression graced her face. Hades ignored her tense energy, deciding turning to the stage was a better option.
They waited there in silence. Hades made a mental list adding notes and anointing it.
‘I have to judge thousands of more souls every hour this goes on.( Note to self tell Hecate to cancel board meeting to catch up)’
His eyes snapped to the stage when he heard music originating at the stage.
As the music hyped up its crescendoed into Zeus’s arrival. Suddenly stopping when he appeared.
The ceremony began with a long speech about how Zeus was proud about the two deities deeds, actions, and power.
‘Gods all this pomp just for two deities, just bring them out already, I want to leave already!’
After seemingly hours of pomp and play recreations of the twins greatest achievements, Zeus stepped onto the stage.
“Now after all of these amazing performances it’s time to call up the Gods!” Zeus seemed genuinely excited, eager to bring the two out.
“With the warmest welcome please applause for the newest Olympians Artemis and Apollo!” His voice echoed through the entire auditorium reaching to back with crystal clear understanding.
The crowd cheered as soon as Zeus was finished.
Artemis walked up first her hand out of the initial frame. She had ceremonial jewelry on her contrasting her previous appearance to Hades.
A second face appeared holding onto Artemis’s hand, dark purple with black hair.
‘Huh-’ Hades thought to himself, ‘I thought the golden boy would’ve been actually gold. No matter, he matches his sister.’
He wore a ceremonial garment with anklets, gold earrings, and a chain wrapped around his waist part of it hanging down his hips as it seemed to reach his knees.
Though he made an interesting choice in his chiton as it was pinned at his waist not his shoulders.
Artemis’s faced shone as the moon does in the water, her eyes darting the crowd with excitement.
In contrast Apollo’s eyes looked bored. It clashed with the faux smile he was putting on, the smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. He scanning the crowd with disinterested searching for something, or someone.
Apollo’s eyes suddenly landed on Hades, suddenly a craze flashed through his eyes, the faux smile turning manic as it instantly reached his eyes.
Hades stilled him his seat breath stopping, his shoulders tensed as he forced himself to gulp.
Hades glanced at Minthe, her face disinterested as the ceremony went on.
Hades steadied himself, taking a deep breath before reaffirming himself, “The stage lights are too bright for him too see me, he probably just nervous and was instructed to pick a spot to look at if he was feeling anxious.’
That thought became a mantra to soothe himself as he looked up at the stage as was Apollo still staring holes into his face.
Hades focused on Artemis shaking his shoulders trying to stop feeling like he was being watched obsessively.
Artemis gave a speech about how it was such an honor being picked and other things.
Hades wasn’t paying attention trying to soothe himself as the feeling started to become a pit in his stomach.
Artemis ended her speech by invoking Apollo.
His smile dropped a bit as he went to make a speech as well. His eyes now peering through the crowd.
He tenderly interlocked their hands together.
Hades let out a sigh of relief as he leaned down near Minthe’s ear.
“I can’t wait to go back home with you.”
He gently squeezed her hand. Minthe squeezed back in agreement. A small smile gracing her lips.
Apollo finished his speech his eyes periodically glancing back to Hades.
Zeus took to the stage one last time
“Once again I am please to welcome these two amazing beings as the new Olympian members, please applause again for them!”
Hades clapped his hands slowly as Apollo started to intensify the stare, his smile growing wider with every clap Hades gave.
Right as the ceremony ended Hades and Minthe left before anyone could protest. Hades deeply disturbed by the golden boy of Olympus,
