Work Text:
Tom and Jake were just getting home from a long day of fun and celebration. Yesterday was Jake's birthday, and he was turning 30. Tom had work, so he couldn't celebrate with Jake yesterday. So to make it up to him, he chose to take him to all of his favorite places today. They've been to the movies, the museum, they visited Ashley’s farm, had lunch at Zaid’s restaurant, and even just to the park to watch the sunset.
They didn't do much activity, which both pleased and confused Jake. Pleased because he needed a physical break. But confused because it's not like Tom to not be active. Tom usually finds any excuse to do something in any situation. So the fact that he was so low energy all day was rather interesting. Jake wondered if he was hiding something…
No, he's getting in his head again. He's put his paranoia days behind him. It ruined their relationship the first time. It almost destroyed it completely the second time. They're married now. He has nothing to worry about. If things get suspicious, he'll just talk to him.
Tom pulled up in the driveway of their house, and parked the car. “Home, sweet home,” he says, unbuckling his seat belt. “Isn't it nice to see this place after today?”
“It was a long day of fun for sure,” Jake says. “Thanks. For doing all of this for me. You didn't have to.”
“I really wanted to,” Tom responds. The two share a kiss. “But I still have one last thing in store for you.”
“Interesting,” Jake says with a smirk. “Who's lighting the candles tonight?”
Tom gives him a confused stare before catching on. “Ok correction, I have two more surprises tonight.”
This catches Jake's attention. “Well, let's see what those are then.”
The two stepped out of the car, Tom opening Jake's door for him. As Jake got up from his seat, Tom closed the door behind him. They held hands walking up to the front door. Tom put in the keys to unlock it, and…
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY,” all of Jake's friends and chosen family are here. The house is stocked with streamers and pictures and other party decorations. There's snacks, food, and cake. The lights are beautiful. Everything is beautiful. Everyone is beautiful.
Jake didn't expect Tom to throw this surprise party for him. He was taken back to be honest. But it was so sweet nonetheless. He can't remember the last time someone threw a surprise party for him. He's so happy to have so many people that care about him this much, so many people who appreciate his company. He wouldn't trade it for the world.
The party was short, but still amazing. They played some fun party games, had good food, and chatted about life and their futures. Jake had an extra fun time, and Tom was just happy to see Jake smiling. After everything they've been through, they needed celebrations like this.
At the end of it all, everyone pitched in to help clean up. The house was practically cleaner than they left it that morning. The floor was spotless, the couch was comfy, and everything was just spic and span.
And then it was just the two of them again. Jake and Tom. Alone. In the quiet, clean house. Gabs was on the couch, sleeping. As usual. The two looked into each other's eyes. They felt that spark again. When they first fell in love with each other.
With every struggle, with every obstacle, they still chose each other. That's more important than anything else to them. Their night isn't over yet, and they're about to spend it together. That's all that matters to them. Love can be a strong emotion.
