Obi-Wan's surprise

Summary:

It was only supposed to go soothe the locals but now Anakin was injured and she wasn't getting up.

OR

Obi-Wans pov during chapter 23-24 of 'Anakin's Suprise'

Notes:

This fic takes place in between chapter 23-24, you will need to read that fic to understand this one. Also I want to say that I do think Obi-Wan truly cares about her, he is just bad at showing it.

Work Text:

No one had expected their mission on Celanon to go badly, they weren’t even expecting to see battle droids. The council had sent him and Anakin here to soothe the locals. Now that thought was laughable.

Obi-Wan wasn’t sure how it happened. He had been deflecting the droids baster bolts, aiming them back at the droids. It had all seemed routine, that was until he felt a strong pain through the force coming from Anakin. Looking to his right he saw Anakin on the ground. Quickly he jumped in front of her, deflecting any bolts that were coming her way.

It took him a minute to realize that she was seriously injured, he realized this because she was still on the ground. Anakin always got right back up to continue fighting, but now she was laying on the ground. Obi-Wan nudged her in the force, surprised to find her presence was very different than how it normally is. Anakin’s mind was fuzzy, he could feel her fading in and out of consciousness.

He was cursing himself, he hadn’t brought a medic. He jumped towards the droids, he would need to finish this quickly. Slashing down droids one after another. Once all the droids were destroyed he rushed back to Anakin, he found her surrounded by her men. They let him through, he fell down onto his knees.

Anakin was bleeding, he saw an injury on her shoulder that was bleeding heavily. Obi-Wan was putting pressure on the injury but it was still bleeding, significantly more than he would have liked. “Call a med evac!” He wasn’t speaking to anyone specifically, just yelling for help.

Lifting one of his hands he pressed it on Anakin's face, trying to wake her from her slumber. Using the force he was drawing her to consciousness. It worked. Anakin’s eyes slowly fluttered open. She looked around dazed and disorientated, she wasn’t really looking at anything. She started closing her eyes again so he nudged her and started talking to her “Anakin”

She looked around dazed, for a moment looking at him before her eyes became unfocused again. “Dear one, you need to stay awake.” He was trying to keep her awake but she was fading, she needed to stay awake. He could see when she went unconscious. Panic was overtaking him, he couldn’t lose her. He couldn’t lose another person he loved.

Someone must have called for a med evac, there was a gunship coming down to them. Clones came out of a gunship carrying a stretcher. They loaded Anakin on it, taking her to the gunship. He wanted to join her but there was still work to be done. He saw one of the clones Anakin had brought to the planet to go with her, she was in good hands.

Obi-Wan was very jarred by his former padawan's sudden injury but the council had given him a task and he needed to complete it. The residents of the planet needed his help.

The moment he had resolved the droid situation on Celanon he hurried to the Resolute. When he got to the entrance of medbay he saw a large group of clones standing at the doorway. Walking up to the door one of the clones informed him “she is still being treated. No one is allowed in.”

Obi-Wan nodded his head, acknowledging what was said. He wanted to be with her, make sure she was alright but he knew that when a medic said to stay out they were not joking. He had learned a long time ago not to mess with medics. If she was being treated it meant she was alive, he cursed himself for that thought. He would have felt it if she had died.

Breathing deeply he worked to calm himself. Starting meditation he felt that the clones around him were all anxious, the strange part was that while they were worried about Anakin, they were all worried about something else. Obi-Wan didn’t dwell on it long.

Obi-Wan was able to calm himself and release his worries into the force. Using the force he turned his attention to Anakin, using their force bond. Finding that she was alright, he could sense that while she was unconscious her presence was strong. There was something strange, her force presence was very different than normal but he couldn’t figure out why. He focused on it, her presence was somehow even brighter than normal which was impressive since she normally resembled a supernova.

Obi-Wan wanted to push farther and figure out why she felt strange but he knew that Anakin wouldn’t appreciate it, she would feel he was being invasive and would be less than pleased.

Obi-Wan hadn’t been paying attention to the time, he wasn’t sure how long he had been waiting outside the door before it opened. A medic was standing at the doorway. Obi-Wan walked forward nodding at the medic, imploring him to talk.

The clone looked uncomfortable but he did speak “the general is stable.” Obi-Wan raised an eyebrow trying to get the clone to say more. He wanted to at least know the injuries she had acquired and what her recovery would look like.

The clone still had not added anything to his statement so Obi-Wan pushed “what are her injuries? How long will it take for her to recover?” The medic shifted his weight from one foot to the other.

Clearing his throat the clone answered “The general was shot twice. One bolt to the back of her left shoulder and the other hit just left of her spin.” Obi-Wan nodded his head, still looking intently. It took a moment for the medic to continue, looking like he was carefully choosing his words. “We won’t know how long it will take for her to recover. In her-. I don’t foresee any long term issues” The clone looked like he wanted to say something but he did not continue.

There was clearly an unspoken conversation happening between the clones. The ones who were waiting outside medbay were clearly wondering something. Obi-Wan didn’t have time for this, he needed to see that his padawan was okay. “Can I see her”

All the clones exchanged a look, they all looked concerned. After a moment the medic nodded his head, he led Obi-Wan to a secluded room. Anakin was laying in the bed, she was on her side, she was unnaturally pale. Obi-Wan walked to the side of her bed. Holding her hand, she was colder than she should be to the touch.

Now that he was closer to Anakin her presence was near blinding. Obi-Wan felt something reach out to him. Looking around he couldn’t see the owner of the presence, it felt very near to him. Obi-Wan felt for the being and he was able to feel it again, tracing it back to Anakin. Scrunching his brows up in confusion.

He continued feeling it out. Obi-Wan felt the air leave his lungs, he needed to sit down. The presence that he sensed belonged to the child in Anakin’s womb. Obi-Wan was forced to lean against the wall to keep himself upright.

“Uh general, are you alright?” Looking over, Obi-Wan saw the medic was standing in the doorway to the room. It suddenly made sense, the clones knew that she was pregnant. That is what they had been keeping from him.

Obi-Wan exhaled loudly before stating “she’s pregnant?” He said it like a question but he knew the answer.

The clone looked like a strider caught in a headlight in an oncoming speeder. After a moment the medic nodded, then said “yes, she’s uh- she’s five months along.”

Obi-Wan found himself falling to the floor. How had he not noticed? Why hadn’t she told him? Obi-Wan might not know much about pregnancy even within his own species but he was pretty sure that it lasted nine months, that meant that she was over halfway through it.

The medic walked over offering him a hand up, Obi-Wan shook his head. The room was spinning around him. He had always said that Anakin never planned ahead and now it seemed very true. What was Anakin’s plan?

Despite all the thoughts warring for attention in his brain one stood out. Obi-Wan knew Anakin which was how he knew that she was most definitively very attached to the child. “Is the child alright?”

The medic looked surprised by his question, after a moment he answered “uh- she’s expecting twins and yes they seem to be fine. They weren’t harmed in the incident or in the fall and they kept a steady blood supply.”

Obi-Wan nodded, that was good. He knew that Anakin would be devastated if something happened to them, she was always deeply attached. Obi-Wan finally accepted the clone's hand up, he still felt rather dazed. The medic pulled a chair over to him.

He was sitting at his injured padawan’s bedside. Now he would just have to wait for her to wake up, they would need to talk.
