Henderhop Collections (Dustin Henderson/Jane "Eleven" Hopper)

Summary:

--
“Hypothetically,” he says, adjusting his cap, “if someone thought you were, like… really cool..”
“I am cool,” she replies.
“Right. Yes. Obviously. That’s not the point.”
--
He's a little Nerdy.
She's a little extraordinary..
(And maybe a little feral. In a powerful way.)

He rambles when he’s nervous.
She stares when she’s thinking.
He explains the world in facts and footnotes.
She learns it like it’s something she’s allowed to keep.

This series is about arcade lights, shared secrets, awkward almost confessions, and two characters who don’t quite know how love works, but are willing to figure it out together.

Because he deserves someone who listens to all his rambling.

And she deserves someone who sees her as more than what she survived.

And maybe.. just maybe..

they deserve each other.

This is for my Henderhop Shippers... (We will go down with this ship together)

Chapter 1: “IN THE MARGINS” A Henderhop One Shot

Chapter Text

Rain hits the roof in soft, uneven rhythm.
The room is quiet, a small lamp glows beside El, as she sits on the floor, back against her bed.
In her lap, sits an old paperback novel. Slightly worn.
Sticky notes poking out the side.

Dustin's handwriting visible in the margins.
Note for her as she reads.

She turns to PAGE 7.

INSERT MARGIN NOTE:

“When the author says, 'Melancholy' he means a deep sadness that sticks around.
Like Eggos in the freezer. Except less delicious."

Her eyes linger.

Eleven's lips twitch as she says to herself softly,
"Less delicious."

She keeps reading.

--

PAGE 14

A sentenced underlined.
"This is sarcasm. The character does not actually believe this.
Humans do this a lot. It's confusing. I am still learning."

Eleven exhales a small laugh.
"Me too."

--
FLASHBACK to a study session outside of Hoppers Cabin.

Dustin shoves the book into her hands.

"Okay so there's monsters. But metaphorical monsters.
Which is somehow worse? You'll get it."

"Metaphor.. is like... a hidden meaning?" El questions, a bit confused.

"YES. See? You're already ahead of Mike." Dustin shots, pleased.

--
PAGE 23

A line circled.
Aggressively.

“Unreliable narrator = someone who hides the truth.
Sometimes from others. Sometimes from themselves.”

Below that

“Like when you say you’re fine.”

Her breath falters.

--

FLASHBACK – ARCADE

Dustin watching her from across the room.

"You good?"

"I’m fine."

He nods.

But he doesn’t look convinced.

BACK TO BEDROOM

PAGE 30.

The main character describes feeling “built for destruction.”

Dustin’s note is darker here. Pressed harder into the paper.

“You are not a weapon. You were used like one. That’s different.”

Her hand trembles slightly.

She flips forward.

--

PAGE 38

"When she says the world feels 'too loud,' that's anxiety. Not literal volume.
(Although sometimes literal volume too. Like when Lucas chews his gum loud."

a small huff of laughter escapes her.

--

PAGE 45

"You are allowed to take breaks when things feel heavy.
Even in books. Especially in life."

Eleven's expression shift.
She looks at the door.
Then back at the page.

"Oh." she whispers.

--

FLASHBACK - Arcade

Dustin, dramatically explaining something with his hands.

"Context clues, El! It's like detective work but for emotions."

--

BACK TO THE ROOM

PAGE 52

A small doodle of a monster.

But this one isn’t scary.

It’s sitting down.

Head lowered.

Beside it:

“Sometimes monsters are just scared things with too much power.”

Under that, smaller:

“Sometimes they just need someone to sit with them.”

Eleven swallows.
As she traces the drawing gently with her fingers.

--
PAGE 62

A star beside a line about bravery.

"Bravery doesn't mean not being scared. It means.
Doing the thing anyway. (You're basically a professional at this.)"

Her breathing shifts.
Not shaky.
Just.. full.

--

PAGE 77

A romantic line in the book.

“He loved her even when she didn’t know who she was.”

Circled.

Dustin’s handwriting trails underneath.

“I think loving someone means believing in the version of
them they can’t see yet.”

There’s a pause in the ink.

Then..

“Hypothetically.”

Eleven exhales a shaky almost laugh.

“Hypothetically,” she whispers.

--

PAGE 81

Another note.

Messier.

“When you feel too much, it doesn’t make you broken.
It just means you feel deeply.”

And then..

“I like that about you.”

Her breath catches.

She presses her lips together.

--

PAGE 92 - Climax Of The Book

Messier handwriting

"Forgiveness doesn't erase what happened. It just means you don't let it control you anymore."

--

PAGE 102 – FINAL CHAPTER

The hero forgives herself.

The writing here is uneven. Like he wrote it fast and almost didn’t want to.

“You are not what happened to you.
You are not a mistake.
You are not something dangerous that needs to be controlled.”

A small gap.

Then..

“You’re brave. And stubborn. And kind.
And when you smile at me it feels like I won something.”

Another gap.

Smaller writing.

“If that’s weird, please pretend I didn’t write it.”

Eleven closes the book slowly.

Her cheeks are warm.

Her heart is beating too fast.

As she presses it against her chest,
closing her eyes.

Outside the library– NEXT DAY

Dustin leans against his bike, trying to look casual.

He is failing.

He sees her walking toward him.

He straightens immediately.

"So. Uh. Literary analysis? Too much? Not enough monster jokes?"

She hands the book back, bumping her shoulder into his.

He takes it.

"Monster are less scary in books."

"Yeah?" Dustin gives a confused grin.

"Yeah, because... someone explains them."

Dustin freezes for a split second.

He shrugs, embarrassed.

"Yeah, well. I had a good teacher."

El looks at him.

He avoids eye contact.

"You wrote… about me."

"It was contextual annotation! It’s a learning strategy!" he says a bit defensive.

She steps closer.

Closer than normal.

"You like… when I smile at you?"

He freezes.

Red creeps up his neck.

"I mean, statistically speaking, smiles are generally pleasant.."

She reaches out.

Grabs his jacket lightly.

He stops rambling.

"I like… when you explain things."

His brain short circuits.

"Explain? Like vocabulary?"

"No."

A beat.

"When I feel loud inside… and you make it quiet."

That knocks the air out of him.

He softens.

"El…"

She looks at him like she’s choosing something.

"I don’t understand… everything yet."

"Yeah. Same."

She leans in.

Not rushed.

Not dramatic.

Just certain.

Their foreheads touch first.

He inhales sharply.

"Hypothetically?" he whispers.

She smiles.

"Hypothetically."

She kisses him.

Soft.

Careful.

Like turning a page.

When they pull apart, he looks dazed.

"For the record… I would annotate this moment as “excellent.”

She laughs.

It’s bright. Real.

And he looks like he just discovered a new universe.
