10 days of pregnant caitlyn: telling the family

Notes:

Okay so I didn't get to write all the Telling the family stories I wanted to write, it's most likely I will add to this at one point but Mel and Cait grabbed me and forced me to write this. I love them. I hope everyone is having an amazing time with the Event because I sure am. Kudos and comments are appreciated like always!
BTW these fics are by no means following canon. They are just what I wanted to write at that moment so yeah, it might seem weird and a bit ooc but I had fun and I hope you all too.

Work Text:

It had been a busy couple of weeks. Turns out pregnancy carried along several more tasks alongside the task of growing a whole human. They had been elbows deep in building the nursery, the doctor’s check-ups, slowly but surely baby-proofing their place and most importantly, telling their families.

By the time they got to Mel only a few had known. Caitlyn hadn’t meant to leave her so far away on the list but she was quite a scatterbrain lately. So by the time Mel asked her to meet because they hadn’t seen each other in so long, the blue-haired woman ran with it. She asked her friend over to their place and gave herself a mental pep talk before she came over. Vi had decided to step away from the house, knowing that Caitlyn would prefer to tell the woman on her own, so the redhead went to walk around the park.

Caitlyn’s hands shook as she got everything ready. Their usual whiskey was on the coffee table but a bottle of soda had found its way next to it. She wondered if Mel would mention it or if she would brush it off as nothing. She almost tripped over her feet when she heard the doorbell indicating her friend’s arrival. Mel stood on the other side with a frown and a bottle of their favorite wine on her hands.

“You would not believe the week I’ve had, love!” She gave the pregnant woman a hug, peppering kisses on her cheek before walking to the couch.

“I’m all ears, Mel.” Caitlyn sat next to her. “What happened?”

“First of all, you look radiant. Something Vi is doing is making you so happy, isn’t it?” She wiggled her eyebrows playfully as she left the bottle on the table, her head cocking to the side for a second at the sight of the non alcoholic option. “It’s been so long since we met up, we shouldn’t let that happen!” She dropped her head to the backrest, her eyes meeting Caitlyn’s while a wide smile appeared on her lips.

“You were about to complain, Mel.” The woman reminded her with a bit of sarcasm in her tone.

“Ah right, I must leave for Noxus in a couple of weeks. I will be going back and forth for a while. I have to get some things in order over there but Piltover is my home, y’know?” She opened the wine bottle, pouring two glasses before flopping back into the couch, drinking most of her glass at once. “Especially now!”

Caitlyn tensed up for a second, glancing at her friend. “Why is now any different?” Her mind went through every possibility as to how Mel would find out about her pregnancy, scared that her friend would be mad at her.

“I met someone,” she swirled her drink as a small blush appeared on her face.

The blue-haired woman’s face lit up as she heard her. “Oh? Tell me more! Who is it?”

Mel bit her lower lip, her eyes fixated on her glass. “Sevika.”

Caitlyn almost missed the name because of the quiet way her friend had said it but the second she understood it she shot up and threw her arms around her, making sure to keep her growing belly slightly away to not give herself away. “Oh my Gods! I am so happy for you! Tell me everything.”

The older woman blushed harder but a wide smile appeared on her face and Caitlyn knew at that moment that she was extremely happy for her friend. “We met a few months ago. Remember how I had to send my car to the shop for a few weeks?”

She nodded, a look of recognition in her eyes. “Yes, you called me to tell me you wouldn’t make it to our dinner but that I shouldn’t worry because someone was helping you with the car.”

“Yeah, it was here. I was fuming that day,” she giggled softly, her eyes still focused on her wine. “I had just kicked my tire when she pulled over and asked if she could help. My God, Caitlyn, I swear to you that my knees went weak the second I saw her. She has this vibe of her that is just my type and I swooned instantly.”

It was refreshing to hear the adoring tilt on her friend’s words, a curve on her lips betraying her concentrated face. Her hand went to her growing stomach unconsciously, caressing it over her shirt. “And?”

“She got off her truck and helped me figure out what was wrong before offering to tow me to the nearest mechanic shop. I almost passed out when I saw her tie the rope to my car, you should’ve seen her muscles!” Mel fanned herself absentmindedly for a moment, her gaze far away as she remembered that night. “After helping me to the shop she offered to drive me home. You know I am usually so safety conscious but I found myself unable to reject the offer!”

“Sounds perfect if you ask me,” her friend answered, subtly pouring herself some of the soda she had bought.

“It was. We talked all the way to my place. I almost pulled her inside if I’m honest. She was just… everything I’ve been waiting for.” Mel dropped her head back, her eyes fluttering close as she thought about the woman she was talking about.

“So? Are you two dating?”

The older woman hesitated before nodding. “I asked her to be my partner a few days ago. But then everything in Noxus went to shit and I have to leave and,” she sighed, rubbing her eyes. “I talked to her about it already. Sev says it is fine, that she will wait for me every time I go over there. But it is so hard, y’know? I wish I could just stay here. I hate that I have to leave. I don’t want to!” The whiny tone brought a sad smile to Caitlyn’s face. It was unusual for her friend to get like this, but she understood that the situation overwhelmed her.

“It will be alright, Mel. I’m sure Sevika will wait for you. And if she doesn’t, you know where to find me.” She punched the woman’s shoulder gently, trying to get her to laugh.

“I know, I know. But enough about me,” she downed the rest of her wine before pouring herself another glass. “Why aren’t you drinking, love?” She asked once she noticed the untouched glass on the coffee table. “Does your tummy hurt?”

“I don’t think your niece or nephew would appreciate it if I drank, Mel.” She answered, keeping her voice as nonchalant as possible while sipping on her drink.

Mel laughed, glancing at Caitlyn. “That’s a good one.”

The blue-haired woman simply smiled, waiting for her friend to catch up on what she just said. It wouldn’t take long before the older woman’s eyes widened, hurriedly leaving the glass on the table.

“No! You are…?” She exclaimed.

“Pregnant.”

“No!” Mel’s jaw dropped, waiting to see if her friend was joking.

“Yes!”

“Oh my God! And you let me ramble about this instead of telling me?!” She threw herself to the pregnant woman, conscious to not squeeze her stomach as she hugged her. “How far along are you?!”

“Six months.” She took off the oversized sweater she was wearing, allowing Mel to look at the belly she had gained. “Our little Muffin is growing steadily and happily.”

Mel’s eyes were filled with tears as she looked back and forth between her eyes and her belly, her hand cupping the woman’s stomach delicately. “That awful nickname has Vi written all over it.”

Caitlyn let out a watery chuckle as she dried her own cheeks. “She says that because I’m her Cupcake, it is fitting for our kid to be her Muffin.”

“I hate that so much,” she said without any real bite before peppering kisses all over her friend’s face and stomach. “Hello there, my little love.” She whispered to her friend’s belly. “I’m your Aunt. You can call me whatever you want, though. I will show you so many cool things when you are out and around!”

“Stop it, you’ll make me cry harder,” Caitlyn’s voice wavered.

The door unlocking broke the moment, their eyes flickering towards a dripping wet Vi. “Oh, sorry. I just… I didn’t check the weather report. It turns out it was a stormy day.”

Caitlyn laughed loudly as Mel kept whispering to her belly. “Go change and join us, darling.”

“I see that Mel is happy with the news,” the redhead whispered before leaving a kiss on her partner’s head.

“So happy,” the older woman answered for herself. “But we need to talk about your nicknames, Vi.”

“Hey! Cupcake and Muffin are great nicknames!”

“No, they are not!”

The blue-haired woman smiled as she stared at her partner and friend bicker, a sense of peace covering over her. “Now now children. Be nice. You go dry off and warm up while we keep talking. How about you call Sevika and invite her over? We can have dinner together.”

“Sevika?” The redhead asked, still rooted next to her partner.

“They are dating,” Caitlyn filled her in, her eyebrows playfully wiggling.

“I’ll call her,” the older woman said, her hand still pressed against her friend’s skin. She quickly dialed her partner’s number while Vi went up to their room to change. “Hey there, beautiful.”

The softness on Mel’s voice surprised Caitlyn for a split second, her hand coming up to cover the one on her stomach. She tuned out the conversation, her eyes focused on the way Mel’s face lit up as she spoke to the other woman. “I’m happy for you,” she spoke up once the call ended.

Mel glanced at her before leaving a kiss on her friend’s forehead. “And I’m happy for you, love. And I promise I will be the best Aunt my littlest love could ever want.” She leaned down and left a kiss on her stomach.

“You already are, Mel.”
