red roses
1. love and passion
2. courage and respect
1 red rose - It’s direct. It’s powerful. One red rose isn’t trying to impress with numbers, it’s saying, “I choose you. Singularly, intentionally.” It’s the kind of flower you give on a first date when you want to make a quiet but confident impression. It’s also the perfect way to reignite a spark with someone who already knows your heart.
Scott sighed, watching Isaac being benched by Coach again. The Beta got into some fight with an idiot from the opposite team – the True Alpha tried to ask him what it was about, since Isaac looked pretty upset once they got separated, you could smell it on him, but all that he got back was nothing. The wolf knew that it wasn’t nothing. The whole point of the taller boy promising Scott he wouldn’t get in a fight was for the teen not to get in a fucking fight.
Normally, the Alpha wouldn’t have been upset about it. Isaac’s attitude was a part of him. However, Scott was told by Coach that unless he found a way to calm the boy out in the field, Coach would bench him – and that was the last thing the wolf wanted. He knew how much lacrosse meant to Isaac – the taller student didn’t show it, but the way the Beta would focus during practice, the way he would play… It told the whole story. Before Derek bit Isaac, lacrosse was an escape from the abusive household. Besides, sometimes, Coach Lahey would say that he was proud that Isaac did additional sport besides the P.E. classes. After the teen was bitten, it was an escape from not being able to control himself. A way to take all that anger and put it onto the field. But soon, the teen found out that it wasn’t the best way to control oneself. Isaac would snap easily. Derek would yell at him to control it, the Hale teen not knowing how to help him. Turns out that being nineteen and an Alpha wasn’t a great idea. Then, Isaac got closer to Scott – a kid that was his age and understood the anger. The True Alpha wouldn’t judge him, he would just… be there. Scott wasn’t always talking – sometimes, he would just sit there with Isaac in silence. Once the wolf became the rarest kind of Alpha that there was, the teen found himself listening to Scott even more than he already did.
Leaving Derek’s loft had been painful. The way that Hale was reminding him of his father was… frightening. Isaac had no idea where to go, so he went to Scott’s. He and Melissa, the wolf’s mom, took him in without letting him say no. After a while, the Beta realized that Derek wanted to protect him from the Alpha pack in his own, weird, Derek-y way. However, it still hurt and it had been two years. They were seniors now. Scott bit a kid – when Isaac heard about it, he couldn’t believe it – who turned out to be his long lost brother. Fucked up situation.
Now, Scott was stuck with not one, but two angry timebombs. One, who couldn’t control it because of a medical condition, and the other, who could control it, but chose not to. That fact made the Alpha rip Isaac’s head off – which is why the teen asked kindly if Isaac could try and stop his aggressive, fighting self on the field. The taller boy agreed, and that was where it ended. They had this talk an hour ago and yet the Beta managed to get himself into a fight already. To be honest, Scott had to give him the credit. Isaac managed to last one half of the match before being set off by whatever the guy said. The Alpha noticed that Liam got angry by those words as well, and had to repeat his mantra in a whisper that was not audible to humans.
“What was it about?” Scott ran up to the sophomore. The younger Beta looked at the taller wolf. He looked away, trying to avoid the older teen’s gaze.
“Nothing,” Liam’s high–pitch betrayed him. Besides, his chemo signals were setting off all alarms of lying.
“Your tone is worse than when I asked you about your feelings for Theo, Liam,” Scott chuckled. “I’m serious. Whatever that douchebag said, it left you both pretty upset,” the wolf’s tone turned firm.
“I– Did you have to bring Theo into this?” the teen whined. “Not my fault he’s so…” Liam cleared his throat. “Hot.”
“Liam, he killed me,” Scott shook his head. Though, he had to admit, we couldn’t choose who we fall for. “Besides, don’t change the topic, Li,” the older teen chuckled at the huff the younger student let out.
“I think that if Isaac tells you, it will be said by him only. Not me. Him,” the boy said, his gaze uncomfortable.
“McCall! Dunbar! On the field!” Liam was saved by Coach’s shout. The match was about to resume.
Scott sighed and ran with the Beta onto the field. I’ll tell you later, the Alpha heard. He looked in Isaac’s direction, nodding.
The Beacon Hills High School lacrosse team won against Devenford Prep.
The True Alpha waited for Isaac after changing – the Beta was being lectured by Coach about his behavior. He warned the taller teen, just like he did with Scott earlier, that if he didn’t control himself, then Coach would be forced to bench him, which sucked for the man as well. Isaac was one of his best players, and he didn’t want to bench him. However, if the wolf continued his behavior, the human would have no other option, but to give him the worst punishment of all – not being able to play for the rest of the season.
“Izz, what was that?” Scott asked him once the taller student left the Coach’s office. “Before you say nothing, you were the one who promised me.”
Isaac sighed, looking down at the werewolf, “Can’t it wait until we’re home?” The Beta already knew the answer, but tried anyway.
“Nope. You’re not gonna run away from that. Now, come on, unless you wanna Coach to hear it,” the shorter teen chuckled and dragged Isaac out of the building. “So?” The Alpha asked once they got into Melissa’s car – she gave Scott the keys to get home safely.
“He was talking shit about you,” the Beta shrugged his shoulders. That was the moment where all the annoyance that was inside of Scott, left him. Isaac attacked that guy because he offended Scott. This fact made him want to blush. However, the teen managed not to.
”Yeah? Well, then… Thank you,” the boy said softly. “It’s not a good enough reason to get yourself benched for the rest of the season. I know how much lacrosse means to you, Izz.”
“It is worth it, Scott. You’re worth it,” Isaac said quietly. “Besides, that asshole was way out of line,” the Beta huffed. “Before you ask, I’m not telling you what he said.”
“Okay,” the shorter teen nodded.
“So… Now that we explained that… You need to let me take you out,” the taller boy smirked, looking at the shock that appeared on Scott’s face. “What? I defended your honor. It’s only fair that you agree,” the wolf’s smirk widened.
“F–fine,” Scott blushed. “I’ll go on a date with you,” he managed to get out, trying not to lose his shit. Did Isaac just ask him out? Or was Scott hearing things?
“Tomorrow?” The Beta took pleasure in the Alpha’s reaction.
“Y–yeah…” the wolf stuttered out. “I–I can do it tomorrow.”
“Perfect. Now, we can go home,” Isaac chuckled. The shorter wolf blinked once, then twice. Then he blinked again.
“Oh! Sure! Yeah, yeah. Home. Totally. We can go home,” the teen said, looking at the windshield.
“You need to start the car to drive, Scott,” the smirk appeared on the taller boy’s lips again. The Alpha was hit with realization. He blushed again, his cheeks becoming scarlet red.
“O—oh! Yeah, r— right,” the wolf said, starting the car and heading home. “Sorry.”
“Don’t apologize. It’s cute,” the Beta chuckled.
It was tomorrow. Today. Scott meant today. However, in yesterday’s context, it was tomorrow. His date with Isaac. He was going on a date. With Isaac. The Alpha needed to breathe. How does one breathe? No, it was stupid. Obviously, Scott knew how to breathe. He wasn’t stupid. I mean, he was sometimes, but not in this context.
The wolf sighed, looking for clothes he was going to wear. What was he supposed to wear? Like, where was Isaac taking him? Should he go for his usual style? Or something a little more elegant? So many questions with no answers at all.
Scott sighed. You’re overthinking this, he thought to himself. The Alpha knew that Isaac wouldn’t care what Scott wore, as long as the teen would be there. The Beta would smirk, just like he always did – cocky and confident. Or he would give him that sweet smile, the one reserved only for the wolf.
An hour later, the boy was dressed and ready. Isaac knocked on the door to Scott’s room. The Alpha took a deep breath and opened the door, “Wow,” the Beta managed to get out. The moment the taller teen saw the werewolf, all the cockiness left him. Scott blushed, looking into the boy’s eyes. “You look great,” Isaac said after a while, clearing his throat.
“Thanks. You don’t look so bad yourself,” the wolf smiled, feeling a sudden burst of confidence. The Beta smirked, grabbing Scott’s hand.
“Come on, Melissa gave me the keys,” the boy dragged the Alpha along. The wolf followed Isaac with a stupid smile on his face. He was content. The supernatural in Beacon Hills was calm for now, and he had a hot date with the taller teen. His life was finally coming along.
“Wait, stop here, Scott,” Isaac said, pointing at the small flower shop. The boy did as he was asked, parking the car by the shop.
“Why are we here?” The Alpha looked at the teen curiously.
“You’ll see soon,” the Beta kissed Scott’s cheek, getting out of the car. He came back two minutes later with a single red rose. “For you, Scotti,” Isaac said, smirking. The wolf took the flower and smiled at the taller boy,
“Thank you, Izzy,” Scott laughed, smelling the rose.
“Oh, so we’re using cute nicknames now?” The Beta’s smirk widened.
“You’re the one who gave me a rose,” the shorter teen put the rose away safely, so it wouldn’t get damaged while driving.
“True,” the wolf giggled. “In my defense, except for love and passion, red roses represent courage and respect. It took me courage to ask you out, and I’ve got a lot of respect for you.” The boy explained. The Alpha looked at him, smirking,
“You do?” he asked softly.
“Yeah,” the werewolf said, looking into the boy’s eyes. “You saved me from myself. You cared when no one else did. Hell, you reunited me with my little brother,” Isaac chuckled.
“I didn’t know that Liam was your brother back then, though,” Scott smiled softly.
“But once you found out, you reunited us. You sat us down with Liam’s mom and explained with her help,” the Beta grabbed his hand. “I’ll be forever grateful for that.” Isaac smiled. “Now, drive us to the lacrosse field at school,” the taller boy said. The Alpha frowned.
“Really?” He chuckled.
“Yeah. That’s where we really saw each other. Where you picked up the smell of another Beta. Of me,” the wolf smiled to himself.
“Ah,” Scott smiled at the memory. “We did… Feels like yesterday, but it’s been over two years,” the werewolf chuckled and started the car.
The teenagers laid on the field, laughing about stuff from the past. They talked about whatever came to their minds. From their past supernatural problems to what they are going to eat for breakfast tomorrow. After minutes of talking, the boys looked into each other’s eyes, quieting. They stared at each other, the world around the two stopping.
Isaac looked into Scott’s chocolate irises, staring into his soul. He leaned down, capturing the shorter teen’s lips in a kiss. The gesture was full of passion. It wasn’t slow — it was hot and heated; something the two of them had been waiting for years to do.
There was nothing sweet about it, but they didn’t give a fuck. The boys just wanted to give into the passion of it, into the feeling. The tension that had been between them for years had finally turned into something else.
“You know what one red rose means?” Isaac asked once they stopped the kiss to breathe. Scott shook his head, waiting for an explanation. “It means that I choose you. It’s also perfect for a first date — making a quiet but confident impression,” the Alpha listened to the taller boy’s deep voice.
“You definitely impressed me, Izzy,” Scott smirked, leaning in.
“Yeah?” Isaac chuckled. The wolf nodded, looking into the Beta’s ocean eyes. “I’m glad that I did, Scotti,” the teen closed the gap between them, pulling the shorter werewolf into a heated kiss.
If they had to run away from the guard without a care in the world, they would never mention it to anybody.
If they were caught a million times making out on the school premises, they wouldn’t mention that either.
