Chapter Text
Daydream, a well respected pharmaceutical company. On the surface doing miracles. Medicines that cure various illnesses, saving countless lives.
But behind that front, Daydream had no regards for human life. Death being the most common encounter in the Field Exploration Teams— That noble facade wasn't anything but a joke to the employees.
As usual, D-squad was assigned to another darkness, and headed to the 17th floor.
"Hello."
"......?"
There were other visitors in Research Team 1's office. Different masks added color to the monochrome room.
Butterfly, Praying Mantis and Teal Duck of A-squad.
Falcon, Badger and Lizard of D-squad.
The three round-offs of Y-squad.
Assistant Manager Eun asked a question after glancing around.
"Are we going in together with the other teams?"
"Yes, thats right."
"..."
Supervisor Park remained quiet, taking his seat with the rest of D-squad.
The researcher then stood in front of the board and let out a chuckle.
"The truth is... we don't know much of this darkness!"
"What do you mean by that, Section Chief Kwak?"
As the documents were handed out, the dark atmosphere intensified. There was only one civilian made escape in the report. They presented symptoms such as delusions, PTSD, and mild to severe neurosis.
4 survivors, 1 missing and 7 deceased.
"The player limit must exceed ten people? That's why the group size is so large?"
"Yes, Manager Jin! Haha! And we even got the game rules."
[Cheerful Theme Park!] Qterw-B-11
~Joyful Fantasyland Adventure~
:Be the first team to ride all three fantasy attractions with your teammates and win spectacular prizes!
"Now, let's split into teams and start the board game!"
With sighs, people began shaking the capsules and drawing their game pieces by order of seniority.
Squad Leader Lee Jaheon unfolded the board game at the instructions of Section Chief Kwak, but nothing happened.
"Red team doesn't have enough players."
Assistant Manager Jin, an employee of Y-squad, and the new rookie of D-squad stood with those colors.
"It seems we need 12 players to enter."
Then Kwak Jaekang laughed and made Supervisor Lee draw the remaining piece by throwing the capsule.
"I...I drew it?! Wait—"
Assistant Manager Jin opened her eyes.
The cheerful sound of a melodica and orchestra typical of a theme park was heard.
-Hahahaha!
The laughter of children echoed around, there were things wandering around some mangled and covered in filth, others more humane looking but just as disgusting with disfigured forms.
"Huff... huff... Let me out! Out! This is wrong...!"
At that moment Assistant Manager Jin looked annoyed at the researcher and kicked him, but...
All the mascots turned around. Looking at the researcher that broke the rules. He trembled, paralyzed on the floor.
"......"
The noise returned. The lively scene regained vigor.
"Hey. If you whine like that again, I'll start by killing you."
The new hires stayed silent while the terrified researcher muttered incoherently.
Then they moved with Manager Jin leading the way.
[Magic Bunny Arcade Zone]
-tap tap tap tap tap
Hurried feet struck the pavement.
-thump thump thump
Heavier steps followed close behind.
Kim Soleum was out of breath, recalling what had brought him to this point.
He had woken up in the middle of an amusement park, feeling confused as he explored the place while hiding. He eventually reached the main road, guests gathered with mascots, all waiting for something. From where he stood, he couldn’t get a clear view.
Then the parade arrived.
Fluffy mascots waving, balloons bobbing in their paws. Cheerful music erupting. Colors poured down the palace as the crowd grew louder.
-Uwaaahhh!
Candy, jewels, flower petals, fireworks!
Other red things burst forward.
Blood, entrails, organs!
The mascots danced joyfully.
...
...
☺︎
Soleum held his breath. His jaw tightened, panic clawed at his heart. What had he just seen? He avoided gore like the plague— this couldn’t be his dream. Cold sweat clung to him as he strained to look for some clue to where he was.
Pulling back, he saw the sign.
A familiar name.
One that shouldn't exist.
[Magic Bunny Arcade Zone]
His legs faltered.
The mascots surrounding the parade stopped.
Kim Soleum could only smile.
-Hahahaha!
The music warped with the manic laughter of the cheerful parade across the red zone.
They didn't resume marching.
Their eyes locked onto him.
Soleum had no other thoughts and ran, He had explored part of the zone earlier— he could hide. Surely.
His legs screamed. His heartbeat trying to deafen him. While making distractions and ducking behind stalls, he encountered other visitors— forcing him to change routes.
Kim Soleum didn't have much strength left. His head pounded. His vision flickering in and out despite the adrenaline. There was nowhere to run.
But he couldn't stop.
Then he saw it.
The exit of the red zone.
Close.
Ten steps away.
Then twenty.
Forty.
Too late.
He had been caught.
His mind didn't catch up to the fact that he was being dragged back. His nails scraping against the cobblestone, leaving a dark trail behind him.
Soleum blinked.
'......!'
The pressure around his ankle had vanished.
That was impossible.
He glanced back.
The mascot smiled, black soot dripping from it's mouth.
It burned.
It burned.
It burned.
It burned.
Something dark with countless teeth swallowed his leg.
Melting flesh mixed with the black tar liquid. The warm blood making spirals and spots as it dripped down.
Muscles and bones gave into the blend. The metallic smell spread.
Kim Soleum didn’t have a leg anymore.
It had been taken.
He screamed.
The sound tore from him.
Soleum was being devoured.
His marrow escaping, body twisting, joints bending futher and futher. The cobblestone shimmered with the melted intruder.
A voice spoke from above.
He couldn’t understand it. His ear had already joined the mixture.
An announcement echoed.
bang! Kim Soleum was no longer in pain.
The uncooperative body twitched. Confetti bursts open from the pink rabbit mascot’s head, showering what remained of 'him' in colors.
Sparkling slick contents rained down.
Ribbons, flowers, jewels, cut paper, soot, blood, eyes, flesh. Decorated the scenery gently.

[ Ah, how amazing! Rejoice! A new mascot has been ■■■■ by ■■■■■■■■ ■■■■■■. C■r■■d ■■is■e■ce — may you cry tears of joy from now on! ]
Soft stuffing drifted onto the dark melted form. It blended slowly. Ribs reshaping with happy snaps into the cozy insides. Fluffy golden fur spread across the new surface. Horns pushed upward from a feline-like head.
The pink mascots watched nearby but didn’t close in. Unable to interfere, they merely salivated and laughed.
A new yellow friend was here, after all.
By the time Kim Soleum regained consciousness, sinew decorated the red zone. It was almost closing hours.
The mascot’s body walked towards the abandoned resort office.
Soleum fainted again as the sensation of his body came to him.
[Fantasy Train]
—Meet the residents and stories of each area in Fantasyland! A delightful train ride!
According to testimony #4
'...All four who boarded the 'Fantasy Train' went missing.'
The A-squad superior stopped mid-step, lips parting.
"N-No, we can't, absolut-!"
"Hey."
Sharp fingernails pressed against the researcher's head.
"Do you want to die? You think you have the right to speak?"
"......"
"Move."
They continued forward.
The boarding entrance soon came into view.
But no one was there.
No staff.
No guests.
Only a rabbit mascot dressed as a conductor stood waiting.
It's hollow eyes staring.
'Failure.'
Manager Jin exited the attraction.
Behind her, the bodies of the researcher and D-squad's rookie lay bleeding out.
They had passed the test.
The round-off Y-squad newbie had somehow survived until now, but it worked out as she forced him to carry the bodies.
'.......'
The train ride had accelerated without warning.
Near the end, the mascots outside began pressing their heads against the windows and wailed blood while repeating 'Die. Die. Die.'
Then the useless gambling addict researcher panicked, killing the D-squad rookie—and a second later, he was killed by her.
They were still guests until that moment. But the mascot suddenly left.
Everything was devoid of sound and light.
They were being watched.
Their wristbands muttered its boredom until it ripped apart— then they were chased.
There was nowhere to hide.
Mascots were pouring out from every corner.
Laughter followed them, overwhelming them as the cacophony intensified. They continued running, but the mascots were faster.
A sizzling stench clung to their bodies, blisters blooming where the black acidic liquid had touched them.
The forest came into view.
Butterfly and Bison mask sprinted toward it, hoping it could be the outskirts. Another zone. A buffer. Anything to slow the pursuit.
The bricks along the path began shifting color beneath their feet.
They had run from the western edge to the east side.
The rabbits stopped their movements abruptly, as if detained by an invisible barrier.
Panting, the two staggered forward.
A golden sign greeted them...
They had entered another zone.
Kim Soleum woke again.
He had been fading in and out of consciousness repeatedly. He knew something had happened— but every time he tried to recall it fully, nausea seized him and he fainted. Coming back to his stomach churning, wherever that was.
The golden body moved easily.
It was his body after all.
He sensed new visitors approaching the resort while arranging a vase.
Without effort, he moved his awareness into another body stationed at the flier stall near the entrance of the yellow zone. Watching them from there curiously.
The guest had such battered bodies...
Torn.
Damaged.
'...A visit to the golden resort would do them good.'
He steadied himself.
Filling his resolve and waiting patiently for his new clients.
Hi
"......"
"...ah, hello."
The man in the bison mask returned the greeting.
Need Guide?
"Yes, please."
They nodded, trembling.
He handed them a flier and a flower, then stepped to the side, allowing them to drag the mangled bodies pass the stand.
Hi
"Hello. I'll be staying too."
The Butterfly mask extended her wrist, waiting.
......
"......"
The mascot stared.
"..."
Only their breathing could be heard.
Cold sweat gathered on their bodies again.
"...please,"
Good
Yes.
It was good.
Manners should always be maintained, even if their appearance had no class or refinement.
This Way Follow.
The fluffy golden mascot guided them towards it's resort...
Flower Golden Resort
Welcome.
The reception hall welcomed them in a warm light.
As Assistant Manager Jin read the rules framed to the wall, other mascots retrieved the bodies from Bison. Another quietly cleaned the red stained floor.
Jang Heowoon bowed slightly, apologizing to the mascot for sullying the floor and tried to clean it himself by grabbing the mop.
“Sorry for dirtying the floor—”
No Problem.
The mascot waved its paws gently and continued working dutifully.
Kim Soleum observed their interaction.
His mood shifting towards something pleasant.
The guests approached the desk to register.
Unfortunately, their ticket only covered a one-night courtesy stay. Handing them the guestbook, Butterfly and Bison signed their names.
He stamped their entries.
The resort would soon open fully, more guests would enjoy a peaceful stay in this wonderful establishment.
Welcome.
"Um, thank you...!"
...My guests!
The heart within the mascot's body stirred.
The employees he had contracted emerged from the corridor.
Dressed in bow ties and gold-trimmed vests, the letter 'G' decorating their foreheads.
'......!'
"Ah! That's-"
Perfect employees.
'...Other ghost stories.'
Assistant Manager Jin grimaced internally while Jang Heowoon's face beneath the mask paled.
Outside, the garden path illuminated. The line of golden streetlights flickered on one by one. The grand gorgeous resort shined brightly.
The mascot felt happy.
In the Blue Zone, the exploration team was stopped on their way for the exit.
The Blue Dragon mascot blocked the path and pointed towards the yellow zone.
They refused politetly and tried to leave the area again, but the gates remained closed.
There were no reports about this.
An anomaly.
It didn't exist at first.
That's why both the yellow and blue teams had been summoned to the blue zone.
A-squad Leader Teal Duck was unconcious.
Falcon, Badger and Lizard of D-squad dragged a pool noodle filled with the remains of the dead Praying Mantis and two Y-squad members.
Go There
The mascot gestured again.
Safe
The Blue Dragon dropped its horns and pointed towards the forest.
Good Child
"Section Chief Lizard, maybe we should go?"
"I agree with Assistant Manager Falcon, we can't leave anyway."
"Okay."
The Blue Dragon mascot brightened instantly and began guiding them, its tail swaying behind it. sweeping the floor.
'...cute'
As the arch of the yellow zone came into view, antler-like branches appeared.
The golden mascot was peeking from the flier stall.
'......?'
Its stitched smile lifted slightly.
Noticing the blue mascot it left its position behind the counter, and approched a bit fast. The former doing the same.
They collided with a soft, muffled 'thud', plush bodies compressing before rebounding gently. Their cheeks squished deforming the mascot face cutely.
For a moment, neither moved futher.
then—
Good child
The Blue Dragon’s voice sounded, distant waves crashing with the shore lazily.
Glad to see you
Its tail swayed gently behind him, moving contently.
I
Missed you
The golden mascot’s ears twitched before it spoke and hugged tighter.
Hi
Missed you too
The scent of the cool sea air blended with flowers and pine. Both giant plush bodies of the mascots snuzzled softly, ears and tails moving excited as their frabric bodies leaned into each other.
Behind them, D-squad stood frozen.
The mascots seemed to have forgotten they were there.
'.......Haha...ha'
Glancing at their Team Leader, they signaled for him to wait it out before he could interrupt this... family reunion?
The Blue Dragon's words, spoken in mascot language, transformed to their intended meaning for a fellow mascots ears.
'I missed you...! How have you been? Are you adjusting well, Good child?'
The Blue mascot pulled back slightly, placing both claws on the Golden mascot’s shoulders as its horns dipped lower.
'Hello Yongyong, Im glad to see you too. I'm good.'
The Golden mascot glanced past the Dragon mascot.
Towards the humans.
Strangers
Why here?
'why did you bring visitors with you? Are they lost?'
Golden shifted nervously, the Blue Dragon straightened and held its paw in its own like a father would. Encasing it softly but firmly.
Stay Here
Its claw gently guided the Golden mascot’s mind back toward itself.
Good child
Grow
'They need a place to rest in, the flower resort will grow with their help. More guests will be good for you, Good Child.'
The golden mascot tilted its head a second after.
Payment?
How will they pay? they had used all 3 spots...
No worries
For the first time, its voice carried weight. Chest puffing up with pride as he tapped it to make his stance clear.
'I'll pay their fees. Just focus on growing up, Good child...!'
The Blue Dragon gently patted the Golden deer-cat’s head.
The two mascots chatted happily a while longer. Nearby guests looking fondly at them from their place.
Then the Yellow mascot turned.
This way
D-squad followed.
Inside the resort, Butterfly and Bison were waiting.
The golden mascot’s body walked towards the abandoned resort office.
Step
Step
The ground felt different beneath their padded paws.
Too light.
Too quiet.
Step
Step
He didn’t know why he was walking.
It hurts.
That was Soleum's first thought.
Something inside him shifted.
Step
Step
The gate of the red zone became distant, The air cooled— salt and mist lingering instead of blood.
The golden mascot slowed.
A presence.
Watching.
From the stand, something large emerged.
Blue fur.
Curved horns.
The Blue Dragon mascot tilted its head.
……?
The golden mascot froze.
Inside, something screamed... he was scared.

Its movements were calm. Certain.
New here?
How?
The dragon circled him once.
A pause.
Good child
The words fell into him, the pressure fading.
Something inside loosened.
The panic dulled.
...Me?
The Blue Dragon's voice came out soft.
Yes
Good child
A claw lifted.
Pressed lightly against the golden mascot’s chest.
Something inside convulsed.

The mascot hugged him, patting his back softly...
'You can't go back'
The words settled like stitching being pulled tight. His heart clenched.
Inside, the Yellow mascot tried to remember something.
A name.
A face.
A house.
It slipped.
It was blank.
Like a record wiped clean only static remained.

The Blue Dragon patted his back to ground him.

(TO BETAREAD)
Sighhh
A-Team Leader crossed her arms while glaring at Section Chief Jaheon.
"So we have to stay the night?"
"Yes."
"Don't you see this is a resort for ghost stories?"
"Yes."
Her expression soured, a vein popping in anger.
"You—"
"Ah! What our Team Leader means is that—"
Far outside the glass doors, fireworks exploded.
– ♩♪♬♬~♩♬♬~♩♪♪
– See you again next time~
The amusement park was coming to a close, fireworks were being lit in the red zone. Some guests muttered, lamenting having missed the parade.
The Daydream employees were talking in a corner trying to lessen their interactions with the other visitors that waited in line.
A mascot then approached, and pointed towards the hallway lined with velvet carpet and soft yellow lamps.
Another boom shook the air.
– ♩♪♬♬♩♬♬♩♪♪
The music faded into a gentle, looping lullaby.
The garden lights dimmed, flickering softly.
Then the resort employees closed the doors.
Bloodied hands punched the glass doors, wailing voices screaming to be let in. The ones at the front being crushed by the weight of those behind.
As the lights turned off one by one the things outside ran in another direction.
-tudtudtudtud
"It might be good to stay... any objections?"
Assistant Manager Eun cracked her neck and followed the direction the mascot gave. The other employees silently did the same.
"Then... See you tomorrow Badger and Team Leader...?"
"Yes. Goodnight."
"haha, Sleep well Falcon and Team Leader."
"Goodnight."
D-Squad departed to their respective rooms and settled in for the night. The other Daydream workers simply nodded to each other. Butterfly exchanged glances with her team leader before being healed later on.
The engraved golden curtains parted with morning light.
No birds singing.
No wind pressing against the glass.
The world beyond the windows looked painted rather than real, it simply existed as if frozen in time. The faint sound of the waves and distant amusement part music could be heard looping softly.
It did not feel like morning.
It felt like a stage reset. A pre loaded scenery in a way.
The Golden mascot stood behind the reception desk.
The lobby was immaculate, marble gleaming and flowers in bloom arranged perfectly in their bases. Not a single stain remained from the chaos outside the night before— no blood, no fingerprints, no signs that anyone had pounded against the doors. As if it had never happened.
"Hello."
Hi
Section Chief Lee Jaheon looked up.
The mascot tilted its head.
......?
"..."
stareeeee
The silence stretched.
.......???
"..."
A strange guest had suddenly appeared.
Need
something?
"Yes."
The mascot waited, its ears twitching once.
...
"..."
The man did not elaborate.
The mascot shifted slightly where it stood. A small movement. Restless.
The waiting continued as if they were in a staring contest.
The mascot leaned forward just a fraction.
What is it?
"Are you maintaining this facility?"
Yes
"How long has it been operating?"
The mascot paused, its head tiltilng more
Not sure
It gave in, ears dropping a bit.
Section Chief Jaheon gave a small nod, accepting the answer without judgement.
"Is time different?"
The mascot straightened, Its ears perked.
Different
how?
"Time may pass at inconsistent rates between here and outside."
Outside?
The word lingered.
It tested the word like something newly discovered. It's gaze drifted towards the tall glass windows that filled the resort. The nearby mascots and the ones out of sight doing the same. They watched in quiet unison before returning to their duties.
The Golden mascot looked back at the Lizard masked man.
Without warning the mascot reached beneath the desk, placing something carefully on the counter where it stood. Neatly cloathed in napkins.
Chief Lizard looked down at it, then back up at the mascot, his expression the same as before.
“I don't consume that.”
Gift
"Understood"
He nudged it back gently across the desk.
“I decline.”
The mascot stared in utter confusement, its body fidgeting.
Why?
"It is not within the diet of humans."
The mascot processed this with visible seriousness. Ears dropped low in sincere thought.
.
.
.
"Generally."
The correction seemed important.
The mascot brightened slightly and ducked down again, retrieving something else.
Better?
It brought out a different item. no longer a suspicius red color. it was stamped with a smiling cartoon version of the mascot’s own face. A sealed pastry.
Section Chief Jaheon examined it.
"Yes. Thank you."
The mascot leaned forward slightly, watching.
The Lizard masked man broke off a small piece and tasted it.
It was sweet. Slightly buttery.
Perfectly edible.
He swallowed.
THen he put it in his pocket, a tug of his lips barely noticed.
Is it
Tasty?
A single nod.
The mascot straightened immediately, ears lifted high and its plastic eyes shining.
Good?
"Yes."
The mascot seemed to glow under it.
Something inside warmed.
Soleum had a faint sense of accomplishment. He didn't know who this guest was but talking with him was pleasant and thrilling in an... unusual way. He had a feeling of familiarity even though he didn't know his name he had never met him.
his voice felt steady in a way that quieted the static behind his thoughts.
After a moment, he stepped out from behind the desk. Jaheon did not step back even as his shadow fell across him. Soleum wanted to look closer even though the mascot instinct told him how rude this action was.
He studied Lizard-nim's expression openly. Curiosity overcoming his restrictions. This guest had no fear.
The mascot's instinct whispered harder to mantain decorum.
Kim Soleum rationalized his actions as not threatening. Not rude. He was simply trying to act as a mascot of an amusement park after all. Performing hospitality thoroughly without breaking any rules.
his voice came out.
You
then he hugged him.
Soft fabric folded around the man's dress shirt.
The team leader of d-squad stood with his arms at his sides, posture straight.
"..."
He could remove him. Instead, he adjusted his footing slightly so they both remained balanced. Soft fabric rustling at the movement.
The mascot nods satisfied, its fur brushing against skin.
He loosened his grip slowly, stepping back.
Kim Soleum had managed to avoid his bounds and inspect this guest, he wanted to know more about him. He had a feeling he knew this person.
Something had stirred faintly when he saw his guests arrive. Not a memory, not fully formed to be that. Just a pull. Like recognizing the shape of something through fog or maybe touch?
– ♩♪♬♬♩♬♬♩♪♪
The amusement park melody looped again, its volume increasing.
Soleum watched the man in the lizard mask for a second longer hoping hed remember something if he went outside and talked to this person. He wouldnt forget him, they had a connection to before he became a probably a past guest.
– ♪♬♬♩♪♩♪♬♬♩
The music swelling in its cheerful tone.
-Hahahaha
Its working hours.
The Daydream employees regrouped in the lobby.
The exit's light shimmered faintly.
Open
Supervisor Park Minseong Looked at the mascot as it waved goodbye, smilling and waving back a bit awkwardly.
Assistant Manager Eun rolled her shoulder as she watched the two before coming close. Her smile held as she dropped a hand at Supervisor PArk's shoulder.
“Mister Mascot, yesterday I slept like a baby. Do you have any way I can leave you a review?”
Her tone was light and playful, but her guard remained up with sharp eyes.
"We are just so grateful and had an amazing stay, so i was wondering if i could give a review like good faith."
You
Enjoyed
the stay?
Falcon's lips curved.
"Yes, it was peaceful."
Pleasant warmth spread through the stuffing unnoticed by the visitors.
Then a golden plaque flickered into existence.
The new mascot as a being bound by rules, when it noticed the fact it lacked something crucial to its existence as a resort owner bend to accomodate. This was how ghost stories operated when they tried to imitate human things.
The Golden mascot handed Falcon the gleaming object.
[Guest Satisfaction: ☆☆☆☆☆]
'Aha...'
Park minseong met Eun Haje's gaze. They had figured out earlier how this darkness based its fundamentals. Thanks to the rules pasted on the walls of the reception that Jin Nasol read earlier they gathered and concluded the mascot of the yellow zone would respect them as guest, the rules were not all human friendly but enough to not be disturbed.
A resort was indeed a place to rest, and like if humans were allergic there were warnings to not enter the spa. Other generic warnings like not entering staff areas and dont go outside or disturb others.
The rules nested on the wall valued class, manners and peacefulness.
Now the mascot of the zone became aware of something wrong but didnt react badly. it was agamble to make the manual more complete and gain points. But assustant manager Eun had'nt expected it to work this hard.
The stars shimmered uncertainly, not yet clicked upon.
Supervisor Park glanced at their team leader. smiling meekly at Eun Haje's antics, clearing his throat.
"Mister mascot, will we be doing individual reviews or as a group?"
Together
"You can just put 5 stars, Golden-nim. We all apreciete the hospitality."
Here
The A-team leader approched and grabbed the shining plaque. Suddendly it shone a brighter gold.
Assistant Manager JIn9+ noticed it first and stepped back.
“…”
The music overhead skipped.
– ♩♪♬♬♩♬—♬♬♩—

The lobby temperature dropped by a degree.
[Guest Satisfaction: ★★★★☆]
As true daydream employees nature. The elite team Team Leader had tried to sieze an opportunity, now the golden mascot stared at the plaque. The six people in the room tensed up.
Team Leader Teal Duck quickly bowed and held out the golden plaque with both hands on it.
"I-"
"Mr. Golden. May I say something?"
Lee Jaheon stepped forward, respectful but not lowering his gaze. The mascot having been called by his resort owner name was fixed again on that persona. But... even hosts sometimes asked questions like that. It wasn't out of turn. It couldn't be. Shouldn't be. As the owner of a place that valued manners, elegance, refinement. He couldn't have possibly broken them.
Golden.
It was such an respectable owner. Courtesy always on its mind, he could hear them out and let it pass.
The fourth star lit weakly.
"I believe its because there were disturbances outside the premises."
Something ugly coiled under the mascots ribs.
Not
My
Fault
“You are correct, the exterior environment falls outside your operational jurisdictipn.”
Jaheon glanced at the wristband on his arm.
The music continued.
Louder.
Then why?
"It was still something that falls under the cheerful amusement park were your resort is set in. The yellow zone."
