Work Text:
“BLAST DOORS OPENING!”
Electronic warbles shrieked and klaxons wailed, red lights flashed and even the recently deceased were probably aware that Hatsume Mei was entering her lab.
“Mei!” Iida called, running after his girlfriend as she strode in, eyes down while she tapped away on the tablet that controlled her lab doors and accessed her computer systems, warming them up for the day’s work. “You forgot your lunch!”
“Victory waits for no woman, Legs. And what do you mean lunch? Lunch isn’t until tomorrow.”
Enamored exasperation on his face, Tenya set the bag down on her desk.
“No, love, you worked all night and today is already half-way over, and I know you didn‘t eat breakfast, so I got you this.”
The bag was simple brown paper, decorated with a short haiku written in marker and two empty square boxes labeled ‘YES’ and ‘NO’.
I seek your true heart / Be my Valentine? Check one / I hope you say yes
Naturally, Hatsume completely missed the message as she took the bento boxes out and flipped the paper over to start scribbling on the blank back side, muttering a quick ‘thank you’ as she began sketching.
Even as Iida leaned against the counter, head filling with thoughts and questions as it always did, he heard her move up quietly next to him, putting whatever little gizmo she was fiddling with down as she reached up and pulled him down for a searing kiss; only after they both had to reluctantly come up for air did she speak: “Does that answer your question?”
