Work Text:
From the start, SitzKrieg was someone who could think quick. When he came to the island that looked straight from the heavens itself, he knew he had to take advantage of what there was, or it wouldn't last long. That kind of mindset attracts people, and so it did. He created Mykonos, and all seemed well. They were builders at heart - or at least the environment made them so - and what better skill could they nurture, where fighting was not yet necessary and all they needed was a good home?
Soon, this sparked the interest of other nations, and together, for the sake of Island 2, they united as a shared nation called the Commonwealth.
Looking back on it, he realised it may have been a bit of a mistake to be part of a nation with five leaders. They couldn't agree on many of the important things. To be fair, with five leaders, each having their own ideologies and values, that's what should be expected. But what should be expected isn't what's needed, especially for a nation so large. But for the sake of his people, he agreed,
because he had to.
Then, of course, comes Saparata and all that drama; the trial, escape, him fleeing to the Covenant only to go to Westhelm, yada yada. He doesn't want to think about it. Too much for the single leader of the Commonwealth.
Wow, does it feel a bit lonely.
-
It all leads to now. Taken in by Infernus, of all nations.
because they had to.
Now united in the bastion above the lava, trapped by Fluixon, it almost feels confining. No more turning back now. And that's when they hear the others.
This may be the end.
He didn't even know how many soldiers had come. It seemed like even the Commonwealth, Covenant and Infernus combined couldn't match. The traps would be useless, send in the weak to go through them and then the rest pour in. So they did.
From there, Cynikka brought the rest of the Commonwealth up to an isolated tower. SitzKrieg agreed because if he wanted to die, he wanted to die at least helping someone. It didn't matter in the moment that he was helping the wrong person, because maybe finally someone would appreciate the help of his people.
He fought as best as he could, pretty well, for a builder, but as Westhelm soldiers climbed up the tower, the Commonwealth could do nothing but try to defend themselves.
With both the Gauntlet and Westhelm's rage directed at him, he could do nothing but watch his loyal soldiers die around him, as he too was getting severely wounded. This would be the battle they couldn't win, couldn't hide from, and couldn't stop.
He always thought that he was okay with death. After all, it comes to everyone, doesn't it? Just a way to have peace after you've spent all your time. Death was supposed to be a painless retreat. It felt like he'd welcomed death so many times, yet was left with empty arms.
But for a moment, he realised he didn't want to die. Not yet. Not like this. Not as a coward who fled to the enemy for refuge. He wasn't ready to face what would come after; if there was hell, heaven, or something else entirely. He wasn't ready to face the other leaders of the Commonwealth and explain how he ruined its name. They'd never be able to understand. Because he was never in the right. He wanted to make things right, whether that was by surrendering to Westhelm and face the wrath of Schpood or come back with Artcurus' head himself. If he managed to do it to.. 5ypder.. he could do it again.
But that would never change him. He knew that thinking of a chance of redemption was fruitless.
And so CosmicChrome took his life, and his head. No one was left to fight for SitzKrieg, or the Commonwealth.
Now, they are left in shambles. The survivors who stayed behind or fled have nothing but the mighty acropolis they built. It serves no purpose but to remind them of what happened; who they have lost, and the spirit that was taken away, too. What started off as a group that wanted to utilise they land they spawned on and turn it into something truly beautiful are left to look down at what they have created. It is beautiful, no doubt, but it is not the same.
Goodbye, SitzKrieg; it sure has been a long journey. Nobody will miss you.
