Work Text:
“Would you love me if I were a worm?” Skully sits on Sebek's lap, his head resting comfortably on the green-haired boy's shoulder like a pillow.
They were both supposed to be studying for tomorrow's test, but Skully seemed utterly bored with the math formulas of alchemy. It’s not like Skully really needed to study; his grades were pretty decent in the subject, but he would never turn down an opportunity to spend time with Sebek without anyone around them staring at their romantic acts.
He just couldn’t take Lilia Vanrogue’s eyes staring into his soul anymore. It still gave him constant nightmares every night.
“No.” Sebek replied simply, his eyes still fixed on the pages of the alchemy book, paying little attention to Skully’s gasp or his gentle touches on his hair.
“What do you mean by ‘no’?!” Skully stood in front of Sebek’s field of vision, gently holding his face so their eyes could meet. Vibrant, vivid, and electrifying green, paired with dark, mischievous, and curious orange. A combination reminiscent of beautiful Halloween pumpkins.
“Why on earth would I love a worm?! It’d not make any sense, I wouldn’t have met you if you was a worm, and I’d never feel attracted to an animal, let alone an insect like a worm.” Sebek rolls his eyes, smiling with a certain mockery at Skully as a little pout forms on the pale boy’s face. It was endearingly pathetic, Sebek almost wanted to steal a quick kiss from those lips stained with black lipstick.
“FIRST! Worms are not insects—”
“Of course you would know that.” Skully sticks his tongue out at Sebek, who just lets out a chuckle.
“AND TWO! I would LOVE you if you were a worm! I would put you in a cute little terrarium, with lots of things for you to eat and nice warm soil for you to sleep in! And I would sing to you every night with lots of love and affection.” Skully says proudly, a big victorious smile on his face while Sebek just glares at him expressionless.
“You would treat me like some kind of pet.”
“NO! WITH LOVE SEBEK! Just think about it, you would definitely love Malleus-sama if he turned into a worm right here and now, right?!” Skully gestures with his hands as he explains, at such a frantic pace, he nearly falls off Sebek’s lap. Quickly, and perhaps too quickly, Sebek's hands leave the materials on the table and firmly clutch Skully's waist. The boy's face flushes red, but Sebek barely seems to notice as his expression almost turns offended.
“It's entirely different!”
"How is it any different? Same concept."
“No, for one thing, you and Waka-sama are totally different, and we both recognize that." Skully rolls his eyes, laughing softly as he pushes Sebek, who only tightens his grasp on the boy’s waist a little more. “And two, you said you were a worm, not that you became one, and those are two totally different things. If you, my beloved Skully, became a worm in my presence, I would definitely still love you."
“Hm... I suppose... but I think I would love you even if I didn't know it was you. I think I would absolutely love any version of you.” The young man smiles with a certain sweetness, pressing his forehead against Sebek's. It was intoxicating, in Sebek's humble opinion, the way Skully smiled.
There were moments when it was an insufferable smile, too theatrical for Sebek, filled with an intensity that only a lover of Halloween could possess. But there were moments, those reserved for the two of them alone, when Skully's smile became as tender and lovely as his features. That timid smile, with rosy cheeks, so ordinary to those around them but so valuable to Sebek.
It was through those smiles that Skully revealed his love. His devotion to Halloween, his worship of Jack Skellington, and his deep and sincere love for Sebek.
“Unlikely.” Sebek says after a pause, too lost in his own thoughts of adoration and affection for Skully. In reply, Skully giggles, moving away from Sebek just a little so he can gesture playfully with his hands once again.
“Completely likely! I know that regardless of what form you take, or even if it were an alternate universe where we are all monsters trapped underground—”
“Why underground?”
“Irrelevant, my dear Thunder, but from the deepest part of my heart...” Skully carefully reaches for one of Sebek's hands, placing the young man's palm against his chest. His heart was beating fast, excited and loud, so alive and joyful. “I know I would be able to find you, I know I would recognize the way you laugh or the manner in which you speak. I would recognize your smile, your fighting style, and most importantly...”
“Most importantly?” It is brief, perhaps too brief for Sebek’s taste, when Skully’s lips meet Sebek’s for just an instant. A kiss too quick to be savored, but memorable enough to leave the crocodile fae wanting more.
“Your kisses~” Skully laughs, twirling Sebek's hair around his index finger as he happily watches Sebek's shocked face turn increasingly red until the boy has a striking resemblance to a ripe tomato.
“YOU—!” Frustration fills Sebek's face. So many emotions rush through him, one of them being to end this pointless conversation and get back to focusing on the books in front of them. But... oh, what a frustration-inducing kiss that had been! And Skully's face was still right there, so close, while Sebek's hands continued to touch the tall boy's warm body as he smiled smugly at Sebek's frustration.
So, so annoying!
“I despise you, “Sebek grumbles as Skully presses their foreheads together once more. His lips lightly brush against Sebek’s, and the desire for more grows stronger and stronger within Sebek’s body. Just one kiss, just one more touch.
“I love you, “Skully says brightly, almost oddly proud that his heart has chosen to fall in love with Sebek. As if it was an honor to feel this kind of love and be able to say it so carelessly out loud.
And damn it, Sebek almost felt proud of himself for being the one receiving such warm words. Like it was as great an honor as being one of Malleus' knights, and it made him feel crazy.
Loving Skully was absolutely mind-blowing in all the worst ways imaginable.
Sebek was about to complain, get frustrated with Skully's attitude, maybe even force the boy to go back to his studies. But, as always, Sebek was one step behind Skully, who moved faster than him and pressed his lips to his in a passionate kiss. A fiery kiss, full of desire and craving, a kiss so desperate that it almost seemed like it was Sebek who was teasing Skully.
When they pulled apart, Skully's lipstick completely smudged and his lips swollen, a radiant smile appeared on the young man's face.
“Would you love me in another life?” he asks in a whisper, almost too embarrassed for him, his eyes burning with a desire for a specific answer.
Sebek ponders, truly this time, and tries to imagine a life where he didn't love Skully. He tried to visualize an existence where his lips kissed another beautiful person, where his fingers ran through another person's hair, where there was another body in his bed helping to keep him warm.
It just seemed wrong, nearly disgusting even.
It needed to be Skully, and it could only be Skully.
“I don't believe there is a life where I don't love you,” Sebek confesses, feeling Skully's hand rest on his cheek and his body instinctively lean into the affectionate touch.
The way Skully smiles, the way his eyes light up, and the embarrassment that spreads across his features makes Sebek believe that yeah...
He would probably love Skully if he was a worm too.
