Work Text:
Though I tried my best to hide it, I was quite excited for Trevor and I’s first Valentine together. I walked into the kitchen to work on my special present for him, which was a nice breakfast with all his favourites. I LOVE YOU
I baked scones, fried omelets, made waffles and laid them out as the hours passed. I even set out a mug of beer, though I had to admit it might’ve been a bit too early for that. I heard his footsteps coming from down the hall as I was finishing up the bacon.
“What's all this?” He asked excitedly. He walked up behind me and gave me a peck on the cheek.
“Just something special for the occasion.” I smiled.
“And what might that be?” He questioned, taking a piece of bacon from the serving plate.
“Oh, haha, very funny, Trev.”
We sat down together, sitting across from one another at the dining table as we ate.
“Damn! Beer this early? This must be some occasion if you’re treating me this good.” He joked, or at least I thought it was a joke.
I gave him a soft but slightly stern look, piecing together if he was being serious or not. He looked up from his plate with a blank stare, mouth filled with food.
“Do you really not know what today is?” I asked, leaning back into my chair.
“Well I know it’s not your birthday. That’s a while away, and you’d definitely not be the one to get up and cook if that were the case.” He took a long chug of his beer as I looked down in disappointment. “Is the occasion important?”
“No. I just thought it’d be nice to eat together since we’re usually out and about by this time in the mornings.” I sighed. He gave a tilted smile and shrugged as he kissed my hand and went back to his plate.
——
“And you didn’t say anything else?” Sypha said in shock.
“No, I didn’t want to make him feel bad. But he just sat there and ate everything like a bozo without a second thought.” I told her, frustratingly flopping down on my back in the grass, Sypha sitting next to me.
“Well, you’re better than me. If that were Greta I would tell her straight up on how rude she was being then I’d make her stay outside till she’s realized how back she’d fucked up. I’ll never know how you put up with that man, Adrien.” She said.
I stared up at the clouds I reached into my satchel next to me and pulled out a small journal, a few pages were loose and it was bonded together by some rope.
“What’s thats?”Sypha asked. I sat up and held the journal in my lap as I opened it, flipping through its pages.
“I found some reminiscences of his mother’s journal. One of the pages indicates she was going to give this one to him before the fire happened,” I pulled out a loose page that was addressed to Trevor, showing it to my friend “I was going to give it to him this morning at breakfast, but you know how that went.”
“Adrien! “ she pushed at my arm, “you can’t let this slide! You need to go find your boyfriend and tell him how you feel! This is huge! You found his mother's journal, that’s gonna be a big gesture to him! You put all this effort and thought into an occasion he can’t even remember!” She urged me.
I looked down at the journal, tweeting the rope between my fingers before snapping in shit and tying it back together.
“I suppose you’re right.,”I concurred, “and if this means he’ll be sleeping on our sofa so be it.” I stood.
“Yeah, that’s the spirit!” Supha cheered in support. Little did I know the surprise that awaited me back home.
—-
“Trevor,” I called out before opening our bed room door, “ Trevor I’d talk to about this mor-“ I cut myself off as I entered our room to be greeted with Trevor on our sofa with a rather large gift in hand, though it’s shape gave it away that is was a shield. Our room was dimly lit, the only light source being the crackling hearth from the fireplace and the two candles lit on the coffee table along with a cheese cake.
“Surprise Beastie!” He exclaimed as he stood from his spot on the couch. “You didn’t think I’d actually forget Valentine’s Day did you?” He winked.
“What’s all this?” I repeated his question from this morning.
“This my handsome dhampire is your Valentine's surprise, featuring a lovely fire lit room, a specialized gift designed by yours truly and a delicious chocolate cheesecake.” He explained as he guided me towards the couch to sit next to him.
“You didn’t actually bake that did you?” I asked him
“Well Greta helped so I’m sure it’s edible. Don’t look down in the kitchen tho. But I do promise to clean that up later.”
“Ah how comforting” I joked.
Trevor handed me a slice of cake as we sat down together and conversed about each other’s days. He talked about his very drole story of how Greta and him tore up the castle’s kitchen and I told him about Sypha’s reaction to him not remembering the holiday. He cringed and made a comment on how he was happy that he wasn’t the one with Sypha as a partner.
“You didn’t actually forget did you? This ain’t all some last minute plan to make it up to me, right?” I wondered aloud.
“Of course not,” he took my hand in his “I’ve been planning this for weeks, Adiren. I just wanted to mess with you a bit, you know? Get your hopes down so you really don’t expect it.”
“Well, I see how that would make sense to you.” I laughed and so did he. “Oh speaking of surprises, here’s your present. I was going to give it to you at breakfast but your “bit” had me feeling discouraged.” I handed him the journal and watched as he flipped through the pages. I watched as his face went from curious to shock to reminiscing. He then landed on the loose page that had a message from his mother:
To my brave boy,.
You may be young now but I know you have the makings of greatness in you and I hope that the knowledge in this journal only expands what a wonderful and well trained mind that you have. Do not feel discouraged and never lose sight of the hope that you bring, for I know that you’ll make the bravest of us all Trevor Belmont.
— Love, Mother
He wipes a tear from his face.
“Sorry, I didn’t know we were getting sentimental.” He chuckled.
“I found it in a hidden desk in the hold while I was organizing some books.” I said holding his hand.
“Ah fuck you, you made me cry.”
I gave a small laugh as I kissed his knuckles.
“Well since we’re bringing up gifts I might as well give you yours.” He said, handing me that shield wrapped in parchment. I unwrapped it to see that the sword bore the Belmont crest on it but it looked different. It had its usual cross, but there was a dragon underneath it and a crow on top,a star on one side and a moon on the other. A mix of both the Belmont crest and the crest of my family, the house of Dracul.
“I thought that now that the battle between our families has come to an end, they’ve sort of become one with each other now that we’re together. So since we kind of merged them together I had our crests merged as one as well. You’re my family too, Adrien, and I want you to bear our coat of arms.” He explained.
I looked up at him, this rugged, kind, charming, handsome man. Though he may be a silly drunkard at times, he truly did have a heart even purer than the riches gold and gave me the honor of holding it.
I put the shield down, leaned over to him and dragged him into a deep kiss.
“Happy Valentine’s, Belmont.” I broke the kiss, both of us nose to nose.
“Happy Valentine’s, Beastie.”
