Work Text:
Staring at his computer screen, Donnie sighed. The clock reads 1:28 am, so why was he still awake? Honestly, Mikey would have his head if he knew.
The truth is? Donnie couldn't tell you why he was up at this hour. Well, scratch that. He absolutely could tell you why. Some ah… thoughts held those reasons. He wasn't one to usually let this occur. That title was held by Leo. However, Donnie couldn't help but turn and stare at the blade sitting along the desk. It was a stupid idea. He knew that. On more than one occasion Leo's needed to be patched up for the same thing. Those nights weren't fun. Yet, the thoughts remained. And now? There wasn't any avoiding them. He paused, reaching for it. Doing it once or twice couldn't be that big of a deal, right?
Donnie walked the hall, suddenly making his way to the median. Grabbing the bandages, he quietly cared for the newly placed wounds.
“Dee?” Flinching, he turned around.
“Sigh. What is it I can do for you, Nardo?” he questioned, pulling down his sleeves.
“What are you doing awake? Both Mikey and Raph have told you to stop staying up so late. Your inventions can take more than a day to finish you know.” Sighing, Leo walked towards Donnie and lightly grabbed his arm, apparently not noticing him flinch. He then went and led him back to bed. Well, rather Leo's bed? He could've sworn that-
“You're hurt, Dee. You weren't in the medbay for nothing. And despite how you may hope, I noticed how you flinched.” Leo's stare is burning. As if he hadn't wished for death before. Donnie scoffed.
“I’m fine. You worry too much.” He acknowledged. As if Leo's would let that be it. It was a matter of seconds before the younger had lifted his sleeves to view the bandages.
As if on cue, then two of them stilled.
“Dee? You should've told someone..” Leo starts before recalling, “This isn't a one time thing, is it. This, ah, scenario?” Donnie goes and mutters a few words under his breath, refusing to meet Leo's eyes. Tilting his head, he's asked to repeat himself.
“Sure. Yeah. We don't really need to talk about this though” Donnie rubs his arms silently, as Leo "forces " him into an unexpected hug.
“I won't force you too, just.. Let's get some sleep, okay?” Leo wants to say more, to have him promise to not do it again. But that'd only make him a hypocrite. And a coward.
“Alright. Sleep it is. Can I uh.. ask something of you?” He nods, glancing at him. “I uhm. Wanted to propose that we can try to quit together? This, I mean.” Donnie points to Leo's arms then his own. It.. wasn't a bad idea. For the first time that night, Leo smiles.
“Yeah, okay. I can work with you on that I suppose. We can figure it out later though. For now, bed. I know you're tired.” A laugh escapes Donnie.
“Alright, Leo.”
