Work Text:

the roof of remus' house wasnt very angled, just enough for rain to roll off, but plenty flat enough to sit, sleep, and all around do whatever the hell you wanted ontop of. even with remus' shit ballence.

right now, he had laid out a picknic blanket, after using the trash cans as a way to get actually on top of the roof. normally he would have used a ladder, but after looking in the shed, he'd come up empty.

at the moment, he was trying to get a box of pizza to sit on the shingles without sliding, with little success, even though it wasnt that steep, the shingles on the cardboard was slippery.

remus didnt particuarly like many toppings on his pizza, he liked sausage and peppers if he needed them. but sirius had requested something with all too many vegetables.

olives, mushrooms, peppers, banana peppers, and tomatos, not even any pepperoni or meat at all.

but sirius deserved to get what he wanted. even if all the extra toppings made just a simple pizza an unfortunate price. remus was glad he had saved enough for today, he wanted to make it nice for sirius.

it was 4:30 right now, sirius said he would be over at five, and remus still wasnt done making everything look nice.

it was a travesty. and what if sirius hated it? what if he thought it was weird or overly lovey? remus couldnt handle the thought of all his hard work, getting sirius to finally kiss him, going all down the drain. that would be too much, he'd die.

even just asking sirius to be with him on valentines had been a process. remus didnt want to think about those two days of sirius debating if he wanted to keep apearences with lucy or not.

remus made sure the bag with sirius' gift in it wasnt too obviously in the middle of the blanket, made sure his CD player wouldnt die immediately, double then triple checked the cd he'd burned, just in case it was scratched.

the sky was getting dark from clouds, remus could only pray that it didnt rain.

"hey," remus greeted, when sirius parked in his driveway.

sirius stepped out of the car, smiling up at him and running a hand through his hair "hello!" he waved a little gift bag above his head.

remus stood up, taking sirius' arm to help him up onto the roof. "happy valentines day," remus lead sirius back to the blanket.

sirius tied his hair back, sitting down and tapping his fingers on his knees. "yeah." he set the gift bag ontop of the pizza box. "i brought drinks, they're in my car," he looked down at the driveway. "i dont want to climb down and get them.."

"i'll get them-" remus offered.

"uh, no," sirius immediately got up, "you were limping pulling me up, absolutely you arent going to carry anything." he jumped down onto the trash can and then to the ground, getting a twelve pack of dr pepper and two bottles of something that looked alchoholic. remus couldnt see it from here.

"im not some vegetable," remus complained, taking the bag off of the box and taking a slice of pizza.

"shut up. let me do things for you," sirius struggled back up, presenting remus with a soda.

"thanks," remus conceded, taking the drink and tapping the cap before cracking it open.

sirius sat back down, "i got grey goose," he grinned.

"is vodca romantic?" remus raised a brow.

"those who drink together sink together~" sirius singsonged, unscrewing the cap from the bottle and taking a swig.

"those who drink on a roof loose a tooth," remus responded, taking a bite of his pizza.

"hush." sirius laughed, taking a slice for himself.

"oh, here," remus set his drink down, handing the bag to sirius. "i got you something."

"you didnt need to, you're hosting-" but sirius smiled and took the bag.

he opened the bag, taking out the brown paper wrapped gifts in it.

remus had gotten him three things. an old cigarette tin he'd gotten from a thrift store, a bracelet made of pop tabs and bottle caps that he'd had pandora make, and some fancy chocolates.

sirius took out the tin, grinning ear to ear, "holy, this is perfect," he awed, opening it to check the compartments.

"i think it might be a womens case-" remus admitted. "but its the prettiest one i found-"

"its wonderful, now i can throw out the one my father gave me," sirius took out another cigarette tin from his pocket. this one had his initials and family crest pressed into it, remus knew he hated it.

sirius took all the cigarettes out from the old tin, putting them into his new one.

remus stared at sirius, wishing he could wrap his arms around him right then. but he held back.

"here," sirius handed remus his own bag of gifts, "open it."

remus took out the tissue paper, setting it beside him on the roof.

he reached into the bag, retriving the first thing, it was a book of photos, mostly of him, or him and sirius, "wow, how did you get all of these?" remus mumbled, brushing a finger over a picture of him sirius and peter that james had taken, remus remembered the day last year. sirius had fallen into the mud, and peter had pushed him in too.

"i have my ways," sirius put a finger to his lips in an 'its a secret' motion.

"you're magic, i swear it," remus looked through more of the pictures, staring at every one of them that had sirius in it.

"theres more," sirius tapped the bag again.

remus rolled his eyes, "let me be apreciative."

"nope, im inpatient."

"take a breath, you dog." remus took the bag, pulling out a leather collar.

he raised a brow, "sirius, i know you're a bit weird, but-"

"its for romulus get your mind out of the dirt." sirius interuppted. "she needs one so that we can take her to the lake."

"yeah yeah, i know," remus rolled his eyes, "i havent gotten her one since she was a puppy."

"becuase that hippie made you feel bad," sirius opened his box of chocolates, eating one of them.

"a little bit," remus shrugged, "but also because she doesnt need one." he looked down at his arm. he was still wearing her puppy collar around his wrist as a bracelet.

"i got you one last thing-" sirius pulled something out of his pocket, it was a very fancy looking lighter.

"christ on a crusifix in colorado, where the fuck did you get that-" remus grabbed the lighter, looking at the etchings and design.

"what did you just say? are you adding more words-" sirius laughed, throwing back some more of the alcohol.

"this is so nice-" remus ignored sirius' teasing.

"limited edition, last made in 1972, the collection got banned in the sixties because it had a pinup on it," sirius seemed proud of himself. "baisically just out of the box-"

"you're a geek."

"i have interests, sue me."

remus stared at sirius, then looked down at the lighter again. a pretty girl was etched and painted into the metal on one side, the other side, that remus had originally looked at, just had flowers and spirals on it.

did sirius think he was too feminine? remus didnt actually care that a half naked lady was painted onto a lighter, but it was good craftsmanship. did sirius know that remus didnt care? was this some sort of test.

"you're staring," sirius ducked down a little bit to meet remus' eyes.

"sorry," remus looked away taking another slice of pizza from the box.

"nah, im vain, i like it," sirius pulled his hair down, letting it fall around his face and shoulders.

"oh," remus mumbled.

silence stretched for a decent amount of time, before sirius put down the bottle and laid back on the blanket.

"does me having my hair dowm make you more comfortable?" sirius asked.

"what?" remus uncurled his leg from underneath him, his knee hurt.

"does my hair being long make you more comfortable?" sirius repeated.

"why- why would it make me more comfortable?" remus looked up.

"it makes me look like a girl, does it not?" sirius tugged on a strand of his hair. "i mean, father says it just makes me look like a nancy, but he says that about everything i do.."

"i guess it does. a bit. but i dont care," remus looked away from sirius, slugging the last of his soda. "really. i dont. you dont gotta do shit for me- i think-" remus' voice died in his throat.

"you think im beautiful just how i ammmmm?" sirius finished for him, looking smug. "you're a sap.."

"i didnt say anything-"

"you thought it though. did you not?" sirius flipped his hair over his shoulder.

"do you really not care?" sirius said quietly, as the sun was setting. "how i look?"

"i mean.. i dont think i would want to shag as much if you had a buzzcut."

"i didnt mean that. i mean if i look like a guy or a girl," sirius reched over to push remus' shoulder.

"uh. no, not really. i mean, i like that you're a dude," remus picked at the blanket near his foot, "more than if you were a girl. but how you look doesnt change that."

"oh." sirius rolled over onto his stomach, looking at the forest behind remus' house. "i think im not the same way." he said, "i like girls different than i like guys. girls are all… y'know, and i love tits as much as the next guy. but being with you is like.. not neccicarily better or worse. but just, different."

"bit of a heavy conversation for valentines day. i thought when you came over we would make out and end up falling off the roof," remus tried to lighten the mood, grabbing another soda and cracking it open.

"the nights still young," sirius grabbed the can out of remus' hand, taking a sip before handing it back.

remus picked up the book a photos, starting to flip through them again.

near the back of the book it changed from a bunch of nice, pretty picutes of mainly him (some of them labeled,) to two pages full of rather raunchy photos of sirius.

some of them werent sexual on face value, but sirius smoking from that angle and him in his fancy bed looking sweaty and flushed didnt exactly bring innocent thoughts to mind.

others were much more naked in nature.

"sirius," remus said quietly. "why did you give me a book of your nudes?"

"its not all those. theres room for more," sirius corrected. "and you said you only had one when i left for christmas, so im working to fix that."

"your pride is sinful," remus informed, closing the book.

"your lust is obvious." sirius sat up and leaned in. "not that im complaining."

"be quiet." remus put his cold (and slightly wet, from the cold can sweating) on sirius' neck.

"fuck thats cold-" sirius jumped, "damn you-"

remus grabbed sirius' collar, lightly encouraging him to come closer.

sirius' knee ended up ontop of the pizza box. and his arms ended up around remus' neck. "everything is coming up sirius," he grinned.

"nevermind, i cant kiss you after you said that seriously," remus turned his head, laughing. "that was the dorkiest think you've ever said to me."

"noooo, dont do that-" sirius draped himself over remus, "come backkkkk im sorry, i apologise, truly from the bottom of my heart."

remus folded all too easily, hugging sirius closer. he ran a hand through sirius' hair. "your hair is pretty though, please dont let your ass of a family make you cut it off."

sirius pulled back, standing up, "lets go down," he decided, pulling remus up and collecting all the things.

he climbed down easily, putting all the things through remus' open window and climed in after.

remus sighed, folding the blanket and throwing it down. he cound not, as easily, climb down. he got his feet on the trash can, then on the gravel, and walked around the house to the front door, going through the screen and making his way back to his room.

sirius grabbed him as soon as remus was beond the threshhold.

sirius' hands went to remus' belt loops, pulling him close.

"you stayed home from school today," sirius complained, beginning to unbutton his shirt. "i didnt get to see you."

"i was picking up for my mom," remus caught sirius' hands, shooing them from the buttons and doing it himself. "im sorry."

"its fineeee," sirius sighed dramatically, letting his shirt fall to the floor. then pulling remus towards the bed. "i dont want to talk about hope right now."

"i dont either," remus agreed, sitting down where sirius put him.

sirius climbed ontop of remus, pushing him back, "can i-?" sirius pulled lightly on his shirt.

"mhm, go ahead," remus laid back. his back hurt, and he was more than happy for sirius to pick up his slack. he didnt have it in him to be in charge. ever, really.

sirius pulled remus' shirt off, and brushed a hand over his chest. he leaned down, pressing his lips to one of the lighter scars on remus' ribs.

remus was too hot. he very much wanted to open the window. but alas, sirius was comfortable, and half asleep, and remus would honestly rather die than move him.

he closed his eyes, pushing the blankets to one side. off of him, mostly.

"moony?" sirius' voice was so light. "i love ya'."

remus felt like he'd been turned upside down.

it wasnt the first time sirius had said that, it came easy for sirius, for some reason.

"i love you too," remus whispered. why did those words choke him so much.

remus eventually sat up, when angel started pawing at the door.

"mhhhph," sirius whined, cracking one eye open.

remus awkwardly climbed over sirius, and let angel in.

the big dog pushed past remus and jumped up next to sirius.

"heyyyy pretty," sirius mumbled, petting her as she nosed her way under the blankets with him. "oh you're collldd had remus been neglecting you?"

"she choses to lay right next to the door," remus mumbled, rubbing a hand through his hair.

"neglectful parent." sirius accused, hugging angel and closing his eyes again.

"you bunch of babies."
