Chapter 1: The "Colors"

Chapter Text

...

You slowly open your eye. You wake up not in a field, or with the smell of bananas or burnt sugar in the air. No, you wake up in a comfortable bed, with Isa next to you, with the warmth of a home bringing a small smile to your face. You are out of the loops, Siffrin.

That makes your smile wider.

You fully open your eye, unfortunately too awake to fall back asleep. You stare up at...the ceiling?

Heh!

You must be seeing things. The ceiling looks an odd shade, and you blame your foggy just-woke-up brain for playing tricks on you. You take a long stretch before turning to

Isa?

Okay...he also looks...different? No shades on his body seem familiar. His hair, skin, and clothes are all different shades. It makes your head hurt to look at the new shades, but not enough like the "headache books". You made a promise not just to your family members (You get to call them that!), but to yourself. Don't sweep problems under the rug. You quickly want to check something before you start theorizing. You silently get out of bed, the floorboards not creaking like the clocktower's did. You make your way to a window, and open the curtains-

OH STARS

OW

too bright, Too Bright, TOO BRIGHT

ouch...

You remove your hand from your eye, squinting at the window to bear the brightness. It was never THIS bright (You would know). But yes, it was just as you thought, everything is another shade as well. The sky and trees are lighter shades. You think you remember something. But...

You really don't like remembering things from the loops, besides, memory has never been your strong suit. However, you remember Bonbon (They let you call them that again!) saying something about "weird shades". It keeps slipping from you. It seemed meaningless to you to read that book in the secret library, it was just a way to distract yourself for a minute or two. But now...you wish you remembered.

You...wish.

You tell yourself that it's okay to use it, just this once, for this one thing. You are pretty certain that this won't throw you into another time loop. So, you close you eye. You concentrate on trying to remember what Bonbon said. (Can't have the Universe mixing up what you want! That's how you got in that situation in the first place!) After a few seconds, you mutter under your breath...

Please remember, please remember, please remember

...

At least the smell of sugar isn't burnt. Thr Universe heard your wish.

"Yeah! They had a shade called 'Bloo' and that's the sky's real shade, and one named 'Grin' and that's what the grass looked like! "

Right, yes. "Colors". You are seeing " Colors" Specifically ...You are seeing..."Bloo" and "Grin"? Hm. You turn back to Isa, who is still deeply sleeping. You turn your head a little to the closet that is definitely now packed with clothes. You make sure to not make too much noise as you step towards it, and open the doors. You want to see if there are more of these "Colors".

You see a lot of "Grin", you think. There a darker versions and lighter versions. Do "Colors" have their own light and dark versions? Your attention shifts to a few shirts, surprisingly, you notice that there is still lightless. So the shades you are originally used to still exist...You need a notebook or something. After not much thought, you'd rather leave the writing and brainstorming to Odile.

Most of the colors you see, you don't know. Given the fact that you only know two definitely doesn't help. You could try finding books about it, but you think you'd scream if you had to go another book chase. Bonbon luckily has read at least one book on colors for school, so maybe they know more? You have slight doubt, since you remember them saying they crafted a drawing on their desk rather than paying attention. But, you need whatever lead you can get.

You're curious if you have new shades on you like how Isa does. You take a few steps to a mirror, conveniently placed right next to the closet so Isa can make sure his outfit looks good.

You feel relieved.

You're pretty much the same! Darkless on darkless. You're hair darkless with lightless ends from dying your hair from what feels like ages ago. Despite your skin shade, you're the same.

After looking around your shared room and taking in all the new colors, you sit back down on your bed. You close your eyes, needing a moment to process and relax.

You're relaxation is short-lived.

You hear a sharp "OH MY CHANGE,".

Like dominos, one after the other, they react.

You hear another. "GEMS ALIVE,". You aren't sure if she has seen the colors or if she got startled awake by Mira.

Then you hear two "WHAT THE CRAAAB,"'s. Elongated in shock, you guess.

"Hey, uh, Sif...? What the crab is going on?" Isa wakes up, and you can hear a roughness in his voice from just waking up.

You turn to Isa, and shrug.

"...Alright then. Let's see for ourselves!"

You can already guess why they are freaking out, and you can add to the conversation later. Right now however, you kinda want to see them slowly discover colors and such for themselves. Heh, maybe you'll learn a thing or two.

Both you and Isa step out of the room. The house is now disorientating, new colors here and there, some recognizable, some you don't want to look at too long in case you get a headache. You hear a whisper of "What the actual crab," next to you and you hold back laughter. Everyone rushes out as well, all with the same intention.

Figure out what is going on.

Notes:

I'm not entirely sure if I will continue this fic, it depends on if I have the time or effort to do so. But I hope you enjoyed at least this chapter! Leave some kudos if you want <3
