Work Text:

“And that’s all for today, have a nice weekend, everyone.”

About damn time. Kirby had kept them an hour longer than he’d promised, and Emma’s back is aching from sitting too long in that cheap office chair. She stands and stretches, rolling her shoulders and wincing as her spine pops. Damn, she could really use a massage.

She’s the first one out the door, as usual. To her surprise, Emma finds Kristin waiting out in the hallway. The other girl approaches with a sly expression. Emma is about to ask what’s up when Kristin takes her by the arm and casually leans down, her lips next to Emma’s ear.

“Drinks in my room later? I’ve got sherry~.” Kristin whispers in a sing-song voice.

“Kristin, if I ever say no to that, I’ve clearly lost my mind.”

Kristin giggles, glancing around to make sure they’re alone. “Meet me after dinner?”

“Sure. Around eight?”

Kristin releases Emma’s arm as two agents enter the hallway. “It’s a date.”

~~~~~
“Come in, come in! Before anyone sees you!”
Kristin’s giddiness is infectious as she drags Emma through the doorway. Emma giggles as Kristin yanks the door shut. “Nobody’s gonna know we’re drinking, Kristin. They’ll just think I’m visiting you.”
Kristin fetches the sherry from her overnight bag. “Late-night meetings can always be suspicious. Better if no one sees you.” She holds up the bottle. “I hope you don’t mind that I got a bit of a head start.”
Ah, that explains the giddiness. “Guess I better catch up.”
Kristin laughs and passes the bottle to Emma.
The conversation flows in tandem with the wine, drifting from random gossip to stories from their respective lives. The two girls occupy the room’s only bed; Emma propped up against the pillows and Kristin sprawled across the middle of the mattress. Kristin lies on her stomach, swinging her feet in the air as Emma talks about fighting with her sisters over who got the biggest bedroom.
Emma goes quiet for a minute after finishing her story. “Do you… have any good stories from back home?”
God, what a dumb question. How could anyone have good stories after growing up with Simon? Any good stories Kristin might have are probably tainted by the loss of all her friends, and Kristin isn’t responding and oh god she’s upset now and the evening is ruined and-
“There were a few girls.” Kristin’s voice is quiet, barely audible. “One in particular that I cared for very, very deeply.”
Emma takes a few seconds to catch up, her thoughts slowed by the sherry. “Like- ohhhhh. Um… kissing?”
Kristin giggles, but there’s a sad undertone to it. “Yes, Emma. Like kissing.” She smiles sadly, like she’s remembering someone she can’t ever see again.
Emma looks down at the bottle in her hands, wanting to say this right. “I’ve never thought much about my- y’know. Like- what I- who I like.”
“Yeah.” Kristin’s smile drops. She reaches for the bottle.
Emma wants to- needs to fill the silence. “I mean, a couple guys have asked, and there was this one girl at the grocery store who might have been- I dunno. Maybe something? Maybe it was nothing.”
Kristin frowns as she takes a swig from the bottle, but whatever she’s feeling doesn’t seem directed at Emma. “Yeah? How do you feel about ‘maybe something?’”
Emma takes another drink, needing the courage. “I mean- it’s…” She fumbles for the right words.
“I mean, you’ve read my file. You know.” Her throat feels tight, so she takes a sip to loosen it. “It’s not that I don’t want to- I really, really want to, but it’d have to be somebody I know, somebody I trust.” She takes another drink. “And I’m not even sure how to have that conversation, y’know, with somebody new.” Another sip. “I mean- fuck, listen to me right now, I can’t even say it.”
She moves to take another sip, but Kristin plucks the bottle from her hands. “Emma, lovely, slow down.”
Emma doesn’t realize she’s crying until Kristin wipes a tear off her cheek. She rubs at her eyes, sniffling. “I’m not a child, I know my limits.”
“I know that.” There are no new tears to wipe away, but Kristin keeps stroking Emma’s cheek anyway. Her fingers are soft against Emma’s cheek, and she leans into the contact. Several minutes pass in silence, Kristin caressing Emma’s cheek the whole time.
“I just worry I’ll never be able to do it,” Emma whispers.
“You’ll get there eventually. I promise. Either with a guy or a girl, you’ll get there. Might be easier with a girl, actually.” Kristin looks thoughtful.
“Yeah. Yeah, it might.” Emma feels something about the idea, but she can’t name the feeling. She diverts the conversation with a question that’s been nagging at her for a while. “So you’ve- with girls, right?” Emma considers how to phrase her question. “How does that- work, like physically? If you don’t mind me asking.”
Kristin takes a long drink. “Well, obviously, there’s a few differences. The big one being, well, no cock.”
Emma bursts into a fit of giggles. Such vulgarity from Kristin is so unexpected. She looks mildly offended at Emma’s outburst. “I’m- I’m so sorry for laughing, it’s just.” Emma wipes her eyes. “It’s just surprising to hear you talk like that.”
Kristin raises an eyebrow. “I’m not a child either, you know.”
Emma regains her composure. “I know, I’m sorry. Please, continue?”
“Well, all good sex starts with a slow build-up, you know? Can’t just go from zero to sixty straightaway. Best way to start, in my professional opinion, is with a nice, heavy make-out session.”
“Oh, I didn’t realize you were a professional.” Emma teases.
Kristin winks. “You bet.”
Emma feels warm all over, and she’s not sure the wine is the only culprit. “And besides the kissing?”
Kristin tilts her head, thinking. “Well, I’d probably give her breasts some attention next, first with my hands, then with my mouth. That usually works quite well.”
“Does that count as sex?”
“I mean, it’s not a handshake.” Kristin laughs at her own joke, taking another drink.
Emma snorts, taking the bottle back from Kristin. “So what happens next?”
“Well, how do I explain this?” Kristin twirls her hair around her finger as she talks. “Touching another girl is a lot like touching yourself, only on someone else’s body, you understand?”
Emma doesn’t, not really, but she wants Kristin to keep going, so she nods anyway.
“And using your mouth, well- it’s a bit more complicated. It’s like-” Kristin fumbles with her words, “You’ve eaten an ice cream cone before, yes? Well it’s- it’s about the same amount of pressure.” She seems frustrated with her inability to explain properly.
Emma shifts so that she’s lying more on her side, facing Kristin now. “So- is there usually any, um, penetration?" The last word comes out very quiet.
Kristin brightens instantly. “Oh! Yes, sometimes. Either with fingers or a strap on.” Her expression turns pensive. “I think I left mine in my room in Sudbury. It was this bright purple thing, a bit ridiculous, but I never heard any complaints.”
“Strap on- that’s with the-” Emma’s face burns as she gestures to her hips. “The straps.” She finishes lamely.
Kristin laughs, though not unkindly. “Yes, that’s the one.”
“What if it’s too big? Or too small?”
Kristin rests her head on her folded arms. “There are options. It could be any size or shape you wanted. Whatever is most comfortable for you.”
Emma’s mouth hangs slightly open. “Any size or shape? Are there really that many options?”
Kristin’s smile is soft, maybe even a bit sleepy. “Mhm. Yeah, I'd get you whatever you wanted.”
Emma freezes. Heat pools in her stomach. She collects herself. “Oh? Would you?”
She’s drunk enough that she’s not sure if her voice comes out seductive or slurred. Either way, the effect on Kristin is immediate.
“Oh! I mean- only if you wanted to, of course.” Kristin hides behind her hands as she speaks, peeking between her fingers to gauge Emma’s reaction.
“How would you do it?”
“Huh?” Kristin lowers her hands, revealing flushed cheeks.
“If we were going to- y’know, do it. Tell me how.” Emma’s heart threatens to pound straight out of her chest.
Kristin practically purrs her next words. “Oh, Emma, I would be so sweet with you.”
Emma ducks her head, feeling suddenly shy. “Would you?”
“Oh you have no idea.” Kristin props her head up on her hands. “It would all be up to you, of course, but I’d definitely want you to be relaxed before we start. I’d snuggle with you, rub your shoulders, and then I’d go in for some kisses.”
“Mmm. Sounds nice.”
“I can’t imagine being anything but nice to you, you’re so sweet. I’d undress you slowly, like unwrapping a present. You’d receive lots of kisses and touches the whole time.”
It’s Emma’s turn to hide behind her hands. “Yeah? And then what?”
Kristin bites her lower lip, thinking. “I’d let you have your pick between my mouth and my hands. Or both, if you wanted.” Her expression turns sly. “Though I’d prefer to use my hands. That way, I could kiss you while I pleasure you.”
Emma hopes her words aren’t a needy whine. “You’d be gentle with your hands?”
Kristin’s expression softens. “Oh Emma, lovely.” She relaxes into the mattress. “I’d be so gentle with you.”
The energy on the bed has shifted from sultry to sleepy. Emma turns and places the bottle on the nightstand.
While Emma’s back is turned, Kristin speaks softly. “But if you let me use a strap, I’d fuck you like a sewing machine.”
Emma bursts into a fit of sleepy giggles. “Kristin, what does that even mean?”
But when she turns back around, Kristin is already asleep.
~~~~~

Three days later, Emma is wandering around town, strolling past restaurants and barbershops. As she passes one of the tailoring shops in town, she happens to glance through the window, where a woman sits, dutifully guiding fabric through a sewing machine. Emma watches the woman pull pins out of the fabric as the machine plugs along. She thinks back to what Kristin said the other night- oh.

Ohhhh. Now there’s a visual forming in Emma’s head.

It has suddenly become far too warm outside. Emma turns around, propelled back towards Quantico by the images swirling in her head.
