Work Text:

Valentine’s day was fast approaching and Harris was one busy guy. The Centaurs' social media was constantly blowing up and keeping up with the momentum was a lot. He’d been filming videos with the guys all week. Having professional hockey players recite roses are red poems was going down well online, Ilya did one in Russian that had the fan girls (and boys and enbies) going bananas.

He was working from home, finishing up tomorrow’s scheduled posts when Troy got back from practice. He listened to the usual array of sounds; the keys in the bowl, shucking off of layers, shoes being shuffled off, Chiron’s paws clapping at the floors as he greets Troy at the door. Troy talking to Chiron as if he’s a fully fledged human which Harris found far too endearing.

‘Babe, I’m in the kitchen,’ Harris called out. A few moments later, Troy’s arms were around Harris’s shoulders. He smelt a little sweaty, Harris secretly loved that post practice scent. He took Troy’s hand and left a kiss.

‘How was practice?’

‘Well we found out that Haas had a secret fanboy account on twitter so got somewhat distracted. Rozanov had the time of his life reading through it.’

‘That poor boy!’

Troy uncurled from Harris and grabbed a water from the fridge, he chugged half of it before sitting at the table.

‘It was actually sweet! Turned out Lucas had tweeted about getting drafted and maybe playing on the same team as Rozanov some day. It was adorable.’

Harris nodded with a fond smile, hand on his chest. The team could give each other shit all day but it was always out of love.

‘How’s work been?’

‘I think I’m finally done with the Valentine’s posts, they’ve done insane numbers.’

‘Speaking of Valentine’s…’

Troy got up and jogged back to the hallway. They’d agreed to not do anything big for Valentine’s day, both far too busy. Troy was playing in Montreal and Harris would be staying at home.

Troy had his hands behind his back, a coy smile on his face when he returned.

‘What you got there mister?’

‘I know we said we weren’t caring about valentine’s day but I saw these and well, I couldn’t resist.’

He produced a small red box with a rainbow ribbon around it and placed it on the table. Harris felt his eyes go glossy before he’d even opened the box.
‘Go on then!’

When he opened the box, he gasped and looked to Troy with the fullest heart. Inside the box were chocolates shaped like apples, paw prints and hockey sticks. One had a little rainbow flag on it. Troy stood fiddling with his hoodie strings.

‘Do you like them? I found a queer owned ch-’

He was interrupted by Harris squeezing him into the tightest hug. Harris nuzzled his head in the crook of Troy’s neck before kissing him tenderly.

‘This is the most thoughtful gift. You really are full of surprises.’

Troy grinned, a rare smile that was becoming less and less rare every day he spent with Harris. His hands smoothed down Harris’s back, that familiar warmth brought down his racing heart.

‘Happy Valentine’s day, babe.’
