Work Text:

He sat on the couch carelessly, pleasuring on the feeling of the cold leather on his back, his limbs lightening. He closed his eyes letting himself sink into it... when a sudden weight placed on his lap. Looking down he found Trent seeking for the same rest as he was, his eyes were closed.

Atticus slid his fingers through his hair. It was in need of a dye, or so Trent would prefer, he would love him to loosen up a little but he wasn't sure how he would take it. Besides, he did the same, and he was not going to take the same suggestion.

Usually he would not lie down this fast though, that's how Atticus knew he was truly tired.

'The interview was a little weird wasn't it?' Trent muttered.

Most of the time there was hardly anything new in these that could surprise them anymore, except today... he wasn't sure how to approach it, or if he wanted to.

He looked him in the eyes, open now they had a shadow of seriousness that indicated he wanted to go for a deeper conversation. The light from the sunset was hitting his frown, making his green eyes a lighter, pretty olive color. That dot on his left eye was on clear sight...

'Atticus.'

'Oh. Yes. I...What do you mean?'

Trent sighed from his nose and closed his eyes again, leaving his companion with no distraction.

'You know what I mean.' He picked one of Att's hands in his, caressing his knuckles.

'You mean the question of if you were single? Kind of old fashioned at this point right?'

Trent squished his hand, massaging it. He averted his sight to the side, Atticus could see behind the veil that the gears of his mind were about to start looping over the topic.

It was comfortable to live like this. Private, tranquil. Loved. He didn't want that ruined.

'We don't ever have to say anything you know? That question probably won't come out again.'

'I know.'

He touched Trent's face, his beard. The hoodie he wore looked big on him. He had changed recently, he was thinner like many years ago. It wasn't a problem for him, he very much enjoyed him being smaller than him after years of the opposite, even if by attitude Trent was hardly the man that needed protection. When walking behind him he was often struck by the impulse of holding him, in private he often let that thought win.

Sometimes he wished he could express his affection anywhere he wanted, not in any extravagant way, just enough. But he knew that wasn't something he could fulfill in this life.

'But?'

Either way, it surprised him. How in a short time but not so short, he had changed like this.

How long ago, they had met. How long after, they got together. How long... was left.

'I couldn't help but want it for a moment.'
