Work Text:

Wukong couldn’t keep himself still even as he paced inside his room both excited and nervous for what he had planned for the day. Sure it was sudden, but so was the fact that Mihou had finally started allowing him to properly court him! It was the happiest day of Wukong’s life, or at least happiest for now. When the courting part was officially done then he would surely explode from happiness! For now however he had to make sure everything was set up properly after all he had something planned for a gift and he wasn’t about to mess up anything tonight! As soon as the sun set he had to restrain himself from running all the way to his moon’s room. Mihou did have sensitive ears after all, and if Wukong got going thinking about the way the three pairs of ears glowed so pretty he’d get distracted again, and he couldn’t afford that.

“Mihou!” Wukong called when he finally reached the ebony monkey’s room. Knocking as gently as he could even if he was practically bouncing on his feet as he waited for the other to open his door.

“Wu..kong?” The other asked, confused as he opened his door his fur ruffled from sleeping even as his eyes were only partially opened, and Wukong couldn’t help the urge to coo at the other being adorably sleepy.

“Come with me, my moon. I have something for you.” Wukong smiled with a small bow as he held out his hand for the other.

“Right now?” Mihou asked, still confused but with a small smile on his face despite his tiredness. He had been up since the dawn for reasons of his own after all.

“Of course, what better than a flight in the moonlight.” Wukong replied with a slight purr in his voice.

“As long as it’s a slow flight this time.” Mihou replied remembering the last time when he went flying with Wukong on his cloud.

He’d gotten a little over excited and taken off fast enough that Mihou had fallen off, and it was only through his shadow portals that he managed not to have a painful landing. Of course Wukong had apologized profusely and Mihou had let him off the hook for it, though he rarely ever rode that cloud after that. Wukong winced slightly at the reminder of his previous blunder and nodded seriously.

“Of course, never making that mistake again!” He declared as he pulled Mihou gently with him as he gave him his hand. Nevermind that Mihou was still wearing his dark purple sleep clothes and his fur was still ruffled. Wukong thought he looked beautiful no matter what.

**********************

The ride to the top of the mountain was indeed slow and peaceful and Mihou had to admit it was a beautiful night for stargazing, but that wasn’t what caught his attention the most. The stars and moonlight were reflecting off Wukong’s gold colored hanfu and fur causing the other to look like the ray of light he always felt like to Mihou. He always blazed like the sun in personality, but now he looked like he could light the day with his looks alone, but as Wukong turned to smile at Mihou he quickly looked away to hide the blush he felt on his face.

“No need to be shy, Mihou.” Wukong teased even as the dark furred monkey huffed at him.

“Shut up..” He mumbled without any bite behind the words.

Even as Wukong lowered them to the ground on the top of the mountain where a blanket was set out for the two of them with a basket of food. Though Mihou was tired he had to admit he was pretty hungry as well. He hadn’t really taken much of a chance to eat today, which Ma had certainly given him a long lecture for earlier. He’d argued why he had a good reason of course, and despite her being upset with him she’d still given him a knowing smile all the same. Right now he could concentrate on the food. Even as he dug into the basket of food he felt Wukong’s eyes on him and that was also when he noticed that it was made of mostly all of his favorite foods and not as many of Wukong’s other than his favorite peaches of course.

“What is it? You’re not hungry?” Mihou asked even as the other just smiled at him.

“Nah this is all for you! Got to provide for my mate right.” Wukong stated with a cheeky grin and Mihou almost choked so that's what he was doing! Even as he felt his face heat up and hid his face in his hands in embarrassment. While he had agreed to this courting thing and was even going to do some of his own it was still a lot to process. He couldn’t remember when his feelings for the gold furred monkey had grown deeper than friendship but it had felt like sinking into a warm blanket. A warmth and heaviness that seemed like a lot at first, but he had grown comfortable to it fairly quick even if it was still hard to grasp at times.

“That’s not fair..” He grumbled with a pout and crossed his arms.

“All’s fair in love and courting!” Wukong replied with such a love struck grin on his face that Mihou couldn’t help but smile back.

“Alright your majesty, you win this round.” Mihou conceded even as he finished the plum he was eating.

*******************

Mihou couldn’t help but grin at his own surprise as he saw the look on Wukong’s face even as the other held out the small craved crescent moon. It had taken him forever to find the orange colored thing. A sunstone which seemed perfect for his sun even if had carved it into a moon specifically so it would be a symbol of both of them. They were always compared to the sun and moon after all and what a better symbol of the two of them joining together.

“I love it moonlight!” Wukong said behind his tearing up even as he pulled the darker furred monkey in for a hug.

MIhou smiled as he returned the hug with a warmth filling his chest. It was worth the effort, but his sun always would be. No matter what happened he knew they would be able to do anything as long as they were together.

************

Wukong wasn’t about to be outdone by Mihou’s gift to him even as he kept the sunstone around his neck with a strong chain. He wanted to keep his moon’s gift close at all times; it would be a waste not to after how hard the other had worked for it. The smile Wukong had on his face as he showed Mihou the gift he had for him. He knew his moon ran colder than him and at times would be cold at night. He caught him shivering constantly when he had to be out at night.

“You got me a scarf?” Mihou asked him holding the red cloth and noticed how unnaturaly warm it almost seemed to be.

“Not just any scarf! My moon needs something better then just a boring old thing like that! Try it on!” Wukong prompted and Mihou though wasn’t sure what was unique about it, really he was just happy with the gift even if it was an ordinary piece of clothing. Though as soon as he wrapped it around his neck he felt how unnaturally warm it was. Not uncomfortable, but it felt like it was warming every bit of cold he felt inside and out. He couldn’t help the purr he let out as he buried his nose into it and his eyes widened as he recognized Wukong’s peachy scent on it.

“Thank you..” Mihou stated even as Wukong grinned at the acceptance and he scooped Mihou up into his arms.

“Wukong!” He shouted startled at the sudden movement.

“You accepted my gift so that means I can take you to our nest!” Wukong replied with a grin as bright as the sun.

“Wait don’t you think that’s too fast!” Mihou stuttered as Wukong shook his head.

“No way! I’ve already waited way too long to court you properly moonlight!” He declared even as he summoned his cloud and flew back to the nest he had already prepared for the two of them.

It was a courtnapping of a sort, but being that they already lived together it was more of a formality than an official one. That didn’t mean Mihou didn’t find it charming and perhaps a bit corny, but that was Wukong for you when he put his mind on something he hyper focused on it.

Mihou of course wasn’t complaining so much when he was placed gently in the nest smothered with Wukong’s scent. Even as the other spent the rest of the night and day pampering the ebony monkey. How couldn’t he be happy when he had everything he wanted. A loving mate and a new family. Mihou fell asleep to Wukong’s arms around him and his warm breath on his ears. He hoped things stayed like this forever.
