Work Text:
His body was cold. Colder then theirs.
It had only been a few hours, yet the bugs had already moved in. Two time tried shooing them away at first, but gave up eventually. It didn't really matter obviously, once Azure revived everything would be perfectly alright!
So Two time sat by Azure('s corpse), waiting patiently for his breathing to return. For him to take his steps into the second life.
Amarah had warned them it could take awhile. Though she had said no longer then five hours. It hasn't been five hours, so they just have to keep waiting patiently!
Once he'd be revived, he'd sacrifice them and then they'd both thrive in their second lives. Together. Free of sin. Free of mortal bounds. Free of humanity.
They'd just have to be patient, and everything will be perfectly alright.

It would happened any minute now, they just had to keep waiting!
So what if it's been two (eight) days? So what if there were bugs eating away at his face? So what if Amarah had said the process took hours at most? So what if his face had suken in? So what if the smell just kept getting worse? So what if his clothes were also being eaten away at by bugs? So what if the bugs had been eating away at their clothes as well? So what if bugs were laying eggs in his eyes? So what if his skin was turning from green to red? So what if they hadn't blinked in so long multiple flies had landed on their own eyes? So what if his heart hadn't beat since they felt it stop? So what if the blood on the ground was sticky and brown? So what if they had gotten dizzy from just staring at him for two (eight) days straight? So what if their eyes stung so harshly is felt like they were falling out? So what if they could barely even see his body? So what? So what? So what???
He'd come back. He has to.
The sacrifice couldn't have been for nothing.
No. No. No. They didn't lie. They couldn't have lied.
They'll just have to keep waiting.
The Spawn shall reward them for their patience, that's what Amarah said after all.

They couldn't keep sitting up anymore. They were laying beside Azure, fingers intertwined despite how nauseating his skin felt to the touch.
The flowers had grown into the gap in his chest and around his head like a halo. Two time could feel the flowers slowly twisting their stalks around their own body. They didn't care. They spent most of their time waiting sleeping after all.
But right now, they felt more like they were about to die then about to sleep.
How selfish.
They weren't the one with a dagger wound in their chest.

But they couldn't sit up to pray for forgiveness.
What an awful follower they were.
Azure always knew how to help them when they felt like this. Perhaps, once the life returns to his beautiful eyes, he'll help them out of this pit.
Yet another selfish thought.
It's taken away as they lose consciousness once again.
—
How long has it been now?
They can't tell.
All they know is Azure isn't coming back.
Amarah found them upon the hill, he tried to drag them back with the excuse of, "Azure wasn't loyal enough." But they stayed behind.
They don't care if he isn't coming back anymore.
They don't care if they can feel bugs poking at their skin.
They don't care if they can barely keep their eyes open.
They don't care if the Spawn will punish them for this act of defiance.
They don't care if they can feel their breathing become far too difficult.
They don't care if they can see Azures bones sticking through the rotted flesh.
They don't care if they can feel flower vines trapping them against the ground.
They don't care if Amarah comes back to drag them back to the Spawns commune.
They don't care if they can feel the bugs somehow eating through their skin despite being alive.
They don't care if the hell awaiting them will be merciful or even if the afterlife will include their dearest Azure.
They don't care if their lungs still breathe and their heart still beats despite the lack of life behind their eyes.
They don't care if, when they will inevitably pass away next to their one greatest sin, the Spawn will punish them.
They don't care if they can feel their heart slowing down and their lungs becoming increasingly more difficult to use.
They don't care if the ritual was a lie or everything they've ever known was a lie or even if Amarah lied or if Azure will live again.
They're waiting.
Waiting for Azure,
Or waiting for their heart to stop,
They can't bring themself to care now.
