Summary:

Folly has finaly freed herself from the Great One and her deal with MR after finding out MR never intended to uphold his end of the bargain. Now Folly has to "deal with emotions" and "reconcile with old aquaintances" or something.

Kinda episodic/5+1 format, apart from the prologue each chapter Folly has to try/meet someone new.

Notes:

So… this is my first (posted) fanfic. I'm not very practiced when it comes to writing but I have been getting more into it lately and wanted to try my hand at a story I have. (This fic is inspired by [My roomate, the (former) dream paradite] by [circushound]. This is probably super ooc sorryyyy, I highkey don't know how to write some of these characters. We need more Folly fics!!!! Anyways, depending on how this is received, I'll try writing some more.
Oh my, I have no idea what I'm doing with this formatting??? Whatever, format is for nerds. I didn't even re-read this, I will correct any grammar mistakes if i reach… 5 kudos /j

Chapter 1: Prologue - Sever

Chapter Text

Folly should not be able to think right now, she was supposed to have killed the Great One, and along with it, herself. All the same, she finds herself waking up to the feeling of something wet. Sitting up is a struggle when your whole body is shaking, but Folly has faced worse, so she manages. With a better view of her surroundings, she finds the wetness to be her own blood, it's disconcerting, she hasn't bled for a long time, not since the Great One betrayed her. As for the great one, she definitely succeeded in killing it, it's split trunk looms behind her.

She looks different now, beneath blood she can see her skin has lightened, akin to her original form, so has her hair. Her mask is still broken though, she notes, bringing her claws to her face.

What to do now? She wasn't expecting to survive this endeavour. Her mind wanders to the elevator, and MR, what will they do now that she is gone, or at least powerless. Then she thinks of Wallter, it has been a while since she has spoken to him or shared her poetry. Was she missing him? She didn't think herself capable of that. Next surfaces the faces of Pest, Poob, Dr RETRO and Melanie. They will certainly be glad of her disappearance.

While lost in her mind, and perhaps the dizziness that comes with blood loss, she nearly misses the appearance of the Regretevator. The doors slide open, mere meters away from her, nobody is inside. She really has nothing else to do, why not wander for a while. Unsteadily, she pulls herself up and into the elevator, leaning heavily on the railings. The doors shut again, music plays, but it is hard to hear over the ringing in her ears.

The first stop is at Dodge Teh Teapots. Folly doesn't bother exiting for this one, instead she amuses herself watching a few lingering players try and fail to bring the level above 21. Nobody enters, so the journey moves along. Folly has only gotten worse, she can feel her heartbeat beating faster than ever, her breath has become shallow. For the first time, she feels fear, a sharp twist of her guts, nothing like the burning of three scars she has always known. She is scared to die.

She is shook out of her stupor when the elevator doors ring again, revealing gm_flatgrass. To Folly's dismay, Wallter walks in.

"Folly is that you? My friend, what happened? You are covered in blood…" He trails off, beneath his permanent smile she hears a genuine worry. It still fascinates her that he cares about her well being, even after she had been so cold.

"I am dying Wallter, all in due course." Saying it out loud only makes the worry deepen. What is there to be scared of? This is what she has wanted for so long. Wallter can see her composure slip as she contemplates new feelings, his faces never changes but his shoulders stiffen and he walks over to her. An arm wraps around Folly's back and under her arm, her weight is shifted to lean on the concrete man.

"I'm taking you to Doctor RETRO," He slips a shinning paper into the slot above the floor buttons, "She'll fix you up in no time." Despite his confident words, worry festered beneath him. Seeing Folly so wrecked, what could have happened? Especially to someone as impassive as her.

RETRO's place. Folly does not want to visit the doctor. She doesn't like RETRO, and RETRO certainly didn't like her. This is the woman she has tortured in her dreams, along with her closest friends. From the minute the parasite came into contact with her she did her best to ruin her mind. Folly wouldn't be surpised if the doctor allowed her to bleed out on the carpet of her office.

Heavy breathing from Folly fills the empty elevator. Seconds seem to drag on, and each laboured breath from the parasite seems to send a crack into Wallter's concrete. By the time the doors chime and slide open Wallter is breathing nearly as hard as Folly.

The elevator connects to a small room acting as the front desk RETRO's floor. It's a cute combination of pink and white with circular frames around the windows. RETRO isn't at her desk right now, it's well past her usual hours, but Wallter knows she always keeps an ear out for people in emergencies. Wallter rings a bell on the desk, if he wasn't literally made out of concrete, his arm would be shaking profusely. Hurried footsteps grew from behind the door a moment later and RETRO rushed in, only to double-take at the sight in front of her.

"Meow!? Mrrp Meow?" (The parasite!? What could have done this?) The worry in her tone wasn't for Folly, she's scared something stronger is rising. How selfish of her, although, not undeserved.

"I did this to myself, doctor." Folly coughs out, "MR could not uphold his end of the bargain. I had to take…it into my own hands. Hmhm-" She looses her breath near the end, if it weren't for Wallter, she would be a heap on the floor. Wallter picks up while she falters,

"She needs help, RETRO, please." RETRO's hesitance in clear, the atmosphere of the room thickens to a point Folly could slice it with her claws. Wallter is a good friend of RETRO's, while she was never too keen on his friendship with Folly, she was still his friend, and she was still a doctor.

"Mrrw, mrrep." (Alright, bring her to the back.)
