Brown eyes flicked up in vague disinterest, near boredom, as two dragels entered the room. The first—an older Alpha, with a heavily-lined but kind face that hid the layers of schemes his mind was always working on—was familiar. The second—a newly inherited Submissive, with dark hair and bright, emerald green eyes—was not.
Potential new case, though he was curious why the young Submissive warranted the Chief’s personal introduction.
He sat back in his chair, sure that he would find out soon enough.
Sure enough, mere seconds after them entering the room, his own Alpha jumped to attention, quickly coming over to greet the pair.
“Chief Madarame, good afternoon! What brings you in?”
The two Alphas exchanged small bows, before the older one gestured to the Submissive he had brought to them. “This is Harry Potter,” he introduced. “Newly arrived in Nevarah, just yesterday. He came from Earth and Councilman Terius Baronsworth requested help from an Investigative Circle in investigating some questions that surround the circumstances of his inheritance … and the deaths of his relatives.”
“Earth? So far… What are the details?”
“Young Mr. Potter here came into his inheritance at the end of the seventh month on Earth. He lived with his aunt, uncle, and cousin, until he went off to his school at the beginning of the ninth month. His own parentals died when he was an infant and there is no immediate family Circle, so he was raised by these three relatives. There was an incident that necessitated the school being evacuated a few days ago, an incident which ultimately brought Mr. Potter here to Nevarah. However, before they came to Nevarah, one of his teachers checked on his relatives, since his cousin was near the same age of him and there was a thought that his cousin might inherit soon as well.”
He tsk’ed under his breath, since all the details were very straightforward so far, nothing that really required his Circle’s involvement. But there had to be something more, a twist or some plea of innocence, or else Chief Madarame wouldn’t have brought Mr. Potter to them.
“All three relatives were found dead by his teacher. The bodies are in the process of being transferred to Nevarah to determine the cause of death. But a spell was already cast to determine the time of death—the first week of the eighth month.”
Inheritance gone wrong, resulting in death? It was rare, but it happened, especially when a dragel inheritance wasn’t expected and the family didn’t know how to handle things.
The young Submissive cleared his throat. “They took me to the train station on September first—at the beginning of the ninth month,” he said. “They weren’t dead then. But no one…they keep insisting that the time of death can’t be wrong. There’s been some suggestion that I killed them. But I didn’t.”
Hiroto Miyama sat forward in his chair, suddenly intrigued because that was interesting. He gave Harry Potter a bright smile, aiming for reassuring but probably failing because everyone else in the room immediately went on high alert.
“If you’re free, they’d like you to investigate, find out who killed them,” Chief Madarame said.
“We’ll investigate,” Miyama said. “Don’t worry, Mr. Potter, we’ll find out the truth about what happened.”
