Love Me Baby One More Time

Summary:

Sun Wukong is very pissed at Yang Jian today.

But why?!

Notes:

Happy Late Valentine’s Day everybody!

I started 3 separate works that I wanted to do for one shot for Valentine’s Day. One is 5k+ words long and the other is about 1k I believe. Neither were finished in time.

I’ll post them later. But this is a small, tiny treat as promised. Sorry about the delay.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Can you stop breathing so fucking loudly?”

Yang Jian stops breathing, not out of obedience but out of pure shock at what just came out of Wukong’s mouth.

“I beg your pardon?” He says incredulously.

“You’re not excused. Have a great fucking day.” Wukong replies back coldly. Yang Jian just now noticed that he was dressed up and ready to head outside. Even his usually unruly (and beautiful soft and fluffy) cloud of fur was combed.

“Where are you going?” Yang Jian asks urgently.

“Out.” Wukong curtly replies.

“But…where? Are you mad at me?”

“I was mad yesterday. And the day before, and you didn’t seem to notice.”

Wukong opens their apartment door and walks out before Yang Jian could go and stop him. Yang Jian could hear him greeting someone outside and chatting happily, laughing as they walked away from the apartment.

“Wukong? Wukong!” Yang Jian called out again, putting the unwashed dishes aside and breaking the glass, dashing outside to catch Wukong before they disappear for good.

He was too late.

They were gone.

***

He didn't waste a second and got dressed, hurrying down to catch up.

Eventually, he finally spots Wukong sitting down with his friend, Ao Lie, and he hurriedly walks over.

“Wukong, why-what are you doing?”

“I’m hanging out with my friend. You know Ao Lie,” Wukong said, sipping a strawberry smoothie.

“Yes, but…why were you so angry with me? Was it something I said?”

Both Ao Lie and Wukong looked at each other with an expression that screamed “this guy is so stupid” and Yang Jian felt his cheeks start to flush.

“Was it something I did?” He tries again.

Ao Lie sneers, “More like something you didn’t do.”

Wukong shakes his head, “Hush Ao Lie.”

Yang Jian asks, “What? What I didn’t do?”

“Come on, Ao Lie. This place is too noisy for my liking. Let’s go somewhere else less clueless.” Wukong says as he summons his cloud.

Even though Ao Lie could just transform into a dragon, he smiled and hopped onto the cloud with Wukong and they took off, leaving Yang Jian behind, feeling more puzzled than ever.

***

He returns home, head spinning and heart feeling uncomfortably tight.

His love never acted like this towards HIM. He knew Wukong had a temper, but he had never experienced being on the receiving end of it. Not like this. This seemed like he was really, truly mad at Yang Jian.

Could he be thinking about breaking up with Yang Jian?!

There was only one logical way to figure this out.

He gets a board, places all the possible evidence for anything he could have done to anger or piss off the monkey with the records and receipts from over 50 years ago and uses strings to attach them. He shines a light over his work and continues to pace around wandering back and forth in the living room and mumbling to himself to figure out what in the world he had done.

This goes on for over an hour.

He can’t figure it out and becomes close to tears.

XiaoTian sees him in this state after waking up from his nap and blinks. Taking pity on his poor master, he says,

“Master. It was Valentine’s Day two days ago.”

Yang Jian stops breathing once more and he pauses, feeling his world come to a stand still.

After a while, he exhales, “Fuck me.”

***

When Wukong returned home, he yawned and squinted when he noticed it was complete darkness. As he was about to turn on the light, a small flicker from the corner of his eye caught his attention.

He follows the flicker and is met with a beautiful dinner table and on top of it was a basket filled with delicious looking peaches with soft petals adorning it.

Yang Jian himself was holding a bouquet of gorgeous sunflowers and he was wearing a dashing robe, his hair done elegantly.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, my love. Forgive me?” Yang Jian says in the meekest voice he could muster.

“Better late than never, asshole.” Wukong says, deciding to forgive his clueless, pitiful husband.

As they embrace and kiss, XiaoTian sneezes in the corner and leaves, wondering if helping his master was worth all the trouble.

Bonus:

“He’s not even tryingggg Ao Lie I wanna break up with him!” Wukong sobbed out loud for all to hear. Bystanders stared at him, some with annoyance and others with pity.

Ao Lie pets his older brother’s fur and comforts him, “There, there. I’m pretty sure he just genuinely forgot.”

“But I thought he loves meeee!” Wukong whined out loud.

“But do you really want to break up with him?” Ao Lie asked.

Wukong paused, tears streaming down his face.

“N-No. But he’s such a jerk. Everyone else got flowers and chocolates and a nice date. All I got was, ‘Good morning, Wukong I’m going to take XiaoTian on a walk.’ He loves that mutt more than me!”

Ao Lie sighed, “Don’t be rude to XiaoTian. How about this? If Yang Jian still doesn’t remember by tonight, you can say you’re breaking up with him. I’ll be your pretend boyfriend.”

Wukong perked up at this wicked idea and grinned,

“Sounds like a plan!”

Notes:

*Yang Jian was very lucky this time.
