A loud thud could be heard from the end of a long apartment corridor. “Please don't slam the door”, Akutagawa asked as politely as he could. “Sorry, I'm just pissed off!” Chuuya shouted.
March 14 2016
“Why are you doing that here?” Akutagawa looked up from his book.
“Dazai knows where I live, but not you,” Chuuya anxiously looked out the window before quickly drawing the blackout curtains across the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Akutagawa only sighed. Knowing how persistent Dazai was, he’d eventually find out where he lived. He reclined back into the large, plush couch he was resting on.
The door to one of the bedrooms clicked, revealing a sleepy-looking girl. “Ah, brother, and Chuuya, good morning.”
“Morning, Gin,” Akutagawa responded, forming half a smile.
Akutagawa looked to Chuuya, his expression unreadable. “Why are you hiding in the first place?”
Chuuya’s glare sharpened. “He’s out to get me. If he finds me, my day is ruined.”
Gin reappeared in the living room, her bowl of reheated rice in hand. She plopped down at the small dining table, giving Chuuya a sceptical look. “So… you’re hiding here because he’s annoying?”
“Yes! The guy’s literally a walking migraine.”
“Sounds like he’s winning if he’s got you all worked up like this.”
Chuuya stiffened, his mouth opening and closing as he tried to come up with a retort. Finally, he crossed his arms and slumped into the armchair, muttering, “I ain't worked up. Just… taking precautions.” Chuuya leaned back, closing his eyes for a moment before suddenly sitting up again. “And just to be clear, if he shows up here, you’re dealing with him. Not me.”
A loud, impatient knock on the door made Akutagawa jump, and Chuuya looked sceptically at the door. “Hey, kid, go check the door.” He tensed, ready to run if anything happened. Akutagawa moved to the door silently, peeking out the peephole to see familiar brown hair.
“Akutagawa-kun! You home? Is Chuuya with you~” A grating voice teased, drawing out the ‘u’ in ‘Chuuya’, playfully moving back and forth.
Chuuya flinched, “No way!” He whisper-shouted and gripped both arms of the chair.
Gin rushed to the door and hurried the other two into a separate room. She unlocked the door, looking as innocent as possible, “Ah, good morning Osamu-san, it’s just me in right now, Akutagawa’s out on errands, and I haven't seen Nakahara-san, sorry.” She gave a slight bow and an apologetic smile.
Dazai hummed, staring at her for a bit too long, “Okay, nice to see you then.” His smile turned into an over-exaggerated pout, and he stuffed his fidgety hands into his pockets. He turned and walked away, backing off too easily to be normal. Gin stayed at the door for a while. Seeing Chuuya and Akutagawa sneak into the room, she gave them a thumbs-up and a wink.
Chuuya draped an arm over his face, shielding his eyes from the sunlight. He heaved a sigh of relief when Gin confirmed that the nuisance had left.
Thank whichever god was up right now.
