Chapter 1: A Meeting of Fate

Chapter Text

When Odysseus reached home, he had no second thoughts in killing the suitors, after all, they’d threatened to kill his son and rape his wife. Yet, Antinous made his escape, taking a boat out, he knew Odysseus was soon to arrive, as told by his connections around Ithaca, but the sea wasn’t exactly on his side, rocking his boat to unimaginable danger, before he fell overboard.

As Antinous awoke, he could feel the hot sun beaming down harshly, warm, gritty sand shifting beneath his weight, and with his eyes slowly opening, he witnessed a woman stand above him. A smile that portrayed warmth and care, soft hands holding a basket of medical supplies, “Morning sleepyhead,” the woman started, helping Antinous sit up, with Antinous feeling this splitting headache that threw him off guard. Meanwhile, behind the woman, was a person, Antinous was unable to tell if they were a man or woman, this person had flowing hair and a feminine physique, but when they turned, anybody could tell that they were a man, just…an overtly feminine one, probably to appeal to the male gaze. “You’ve been resting for a while, I swore you’ve been dead when you washed up on my isle!” the woman continued, completely ignoring the man behind her, as he held a disinterested expression, almost distasteful, but as soon as the woman fixed Antinous’ injuries, he felt imbued with a wave of energy, causing the feminine man to gain a mischievous smile.

“Where am I?!” Antinous quickly growled, despite being freshly dressed, he reached for the nearest weapon, a sharp shell that was inviting someone to grab it for stabbing somebody, holding it up in the face of the woman, yet, she showed no sign of fear.

“Why do you dare threaten me?” the woman purred sanctimoniously, “I am Calypso, carer of this island and victim to it too!” Calypso spoke almost provocatively, before the feminine man from earlier took the initiative, pushing Calypso out the way, and stealing Antinous’ weapon.

“That was my puny twin sister, who pay her no mind, for I am the true sufferer of this isle! This land called Ogygia is where you’ve landed!” the feminine man announced pridefully, pushing his free hand to his chest. “I am Iolaos, the twin and better brother of Calypso, children of Atlas!” Iolaos exclaimed, waving the sharp shell around before tossing it aside, almost hitting Calypso, causing a snarl from her and a sharp look. “Now, sister, find this man a comfortable bed to rest his head til his pain is no more!” Iolaos demanded, yet, Calypso slapped him upside the head, making him wince and rub his head, losing some of that prideful energy, “Or, I shall find this man a comfortable bed to rest...” Iolaos muttered, holding an arm out for Antinous to take.

Antinous found this a swift opportunity to get his way, grabbing Iolaos’ arm in an unsuspecting way, before swapping their positions, where now, Iolaos sat on the ground, overpowered by Antinous. “Now, ‘Iolaos’, I have no intention in staying down! So, tell me, where am I?!” Antinous snapped, his grip on Iolaos’ arm tightening to a painful angle, while yanking on it, demanding information, as Iolaos crooned in pain. That mischievous smile now devolved to wincing, despite immortality flowing throwing his veins, he was physically overpowered by this 6’1 man who seemed to have more strength than the Nemean Lion.

“Now, now, no need to be so violent!” Calypso sauntered, running her hands over Antinous, seeming to use her charm to get Antinous focus on her, which as always worked, so, he turned around, his grip already left Iolaos’ arm, and he gazed reverently at Calypso. She was basking in the revere that Antinous gave her, while Iolaos sat on the sand, an angrily distasteful scowl lived on his face, holding his bruised arm close to his chest, getting up off the sand, scowling to himself, taking his leave.

“Pesky mortal men…taking my sister…have they not the slightest appreciation for the male body?” Iolaos muttered disdainfully, sitting under the wonderful shade of a palm tree, watching his sister and Antinous get closer than ever, his wrist resting in a makeshift sling of palm leaves, after he soothed it with salve. “Just admire me for once…for all the gods’ sakes, I was shaped to appeal to the eyes of men…” Iolaos murmured, his head bowed low, his free hand ran through his flowing locks, wishing he could just rip it all out. Or…maybe a man who could appreciate him like they do with his sister? “If I had my way…I could be able to shapeshift…I would harass everyone for the sake of my pleasure…no one would even care enough to make myths of me…” Iolaos hummed, closing his eyes, putting all his imaginations towards transforming a few strands of hair into horns, but nothing came of it, per always, and he sighed, wishing for a life where he hadn’t been hexed the opposite of his sister, where she got to have any man who washed upon their shores fall in love with her, he was stuck with any man falling for his sister.
