Work Text:

It was now midnight, and Kaeya, who knew what his purpose was, decided to take a night walk in Dragonspine. Pitch black sky with sprinkles of stars, thank god Kaeya's eyes does useful right now, he can see clearly with his night vision.

There was only the sound of his boots crunching through the snow, but then Kaeya’s wolf ears twitched in alert when he heard it. The sound was loud, like a roar or a howl. He wasn’t entirely sure, but he was certain it wasn’t lion-like, nor did it sound dangerous.

"..What in the name of Barbatos was that?"

Kaeya keep his pace, He wanted to get to his destination quickly. Where was that destination? Well of course it's Albedo's Lab. After that weird howl-yet-sounded-like-a-roar, it yet again peaceful.

He's near Albedo's lab entrance now when that sound yell at him again, who knew Dragonspine can yell at you like that? Now the sound is clear, by this time he knew the call was not threatening, but kinda like inviting him to yell back.

"...—hhrrrrraaaoohhh-!"

Kaeya raised his head, and on the rock, right in front of Albedo's lab entrance, was Albedo himself. Sitting there, hugging his knees to his chest. Eyes as blue as the morning sky stared into the darkness of the night, his ears flicking slightly in the cold, fluffy tail curled loosely around him.

Without knowing the other's presence, Albedo let out another call, it was the same sound he had heard when he was still at the foot of the mountain. "Albedo? All that roaring- howling- whatever you may call it, that was you?" Kaeya asked.

Albedo turned, ears swiveling first before his gaze fall onto Kaeya's, "Oh, Kaeya." He blinked, "what are you doing here? It's already late."

Kaeya walked closer and stopped right beside the rock Albedo sat on. "I can't sleep, and beside, there's a rumor that there's a monsters here in Dragonspine, the one that *yell* at you." Kaeya smiled, half laughing because of his reasoning, but the rumor are true, people in Mondstadt are talking about it lately. "Guessing that was you all along?"

Albedo scoffed, "Is it that bad? I rarely do vocalization.. so i decided to do it once when i'm free. Yeah, i've been doing this for like a week." His tail flicked, a bit embarrassed by how Kaeya laugh at his yowls.

Kaeya's ears perks up when seeing Albedo's gestures, He quickly shook his head. "I'm not saying it's bad, to be fair i never heard snow leopard's vocalization before, so i can't judge." Kaeya folded his arms in front of his chest. "But hey, nobody's howls or yowls or roars was perfect on their first try, mine too, for example."

The ash-blonde man smiled, he then gestured at Kaeya, patting the free space next to him. Kaeya, of course, accepting that invitation. He slowly sat beside Albedo, dark-blue tail wrapped around Albedo, keeping him warm.

"When was the last time you howled, if i may ask?"

Kaeya put on a thoughtful face, then his gaze turned towards Albedo, looking at him. "I can't recall it honestly, never had the time to do that, the howls are probably burried deep inside me by now."

Albedo returned Kaeya's gaze, tilted his head at the answer Kaeya gave him. He sigh and slowly turn his head to the sky, and once again he let out another call. This one was quiter, more like a chuff than a yowl.

The sound curled through the cold air and settled comfortably around them, Kaeya felt it in his chest. That feeling again, the feel of an invitation, as Albedo's call just now invited him to join in.

After that call, Albedo smiled, sharp blue eyes yet looking gentle was pierced through Kaeya's. "Then, how about we do it together?" _It was an invitation after all._ Kaeya can't help but smiled, he let out a short nod before clearing his throat, trying not to sound ridiculous.

He howls, he calls, low like a lonely wolf alone in the forest, searching for an answer. Albedo smile at the view, he let Kaeya finished first, letting the sound faded before he let out another yowl. His voice was soft, weaving itself into Kaeya's call like it was meant to follow.

Kaeya's eyes widened, feeling the warmth in his chest despite the shivering cold air around them. He let out a satisfied sigh before continue to howls, more eager this time. Hearing this howl, Albedo can't help but smiled, continued to answers Kaeya's calls.

The night held them both, and for a long moment afterward, neither spoke. Albedo chuffed one last time before leaning to Kaeya's shoulder. His ears flicking, breath slowing, something inside him felt complete. "That was fun." Kaeya's dark-blue tail moving slowly, "I never thought that having someone answer your calls would be this much fun."

Albedo just hummed, feeling satistified and complete. Kaeya was the same, and they ended up just staring up at the starry sky. Two voices, answering each other in the cold of Dragonspine's night.
