Chapter Text
I was running. I didn't know how long I had been running for, but I figured it must have been a long time, since my chest was hurting and my legs felt like they were on fire. I knew I must have entered a forest however, because there were trees and flowers and bushes and all sorts of foliage everywhere I looked. I even tripped over a fallen tree branch and scraped my knee, but quickly got back up and continued to run.
Eventually, my legs just gave out. I collapsed to the ground, my chest heaving. When I finally looked up, the sky was a red-orange-yellow gradient. The sun seemed to be sitting on the horizon, and I realized that the sky was going to get really dark soon. I was so far away from home that I knew I wouldn't make it back in time. Not that I'd wanted to. I ran away for a reason. But it was so cold, and I was so tired.
I lay on the cold, hard dirt, curling up into the fetal position. I closed my eyes for a moment, warm tears rolling down my cheeks. Why I was crying, I didn't know. Maybe I was overwhelmed with emotions, and had to let them out. Yes, that was it.
By now the sky was a dark blue, and some stars were coming out. It was quite beautiful, honestly, and distracted me from my current predicament. I stared at the sky, for a bit, counting how many stars there were. 83 in total, with more flickering into vision.
The sound of footsteps snapped me back to reality. Someone was coming.
