Work Text:

Is it possible to kill a god, and if so, how?

This was a question that weighed heavy on Lux for as long as he could remember. He knew the little gods could be killed, or at least by The Godslayer, but he wanted to know if he could kill half of the Binary. Lux had done it plenty of times with humans, so would it really be so different with an immortal being, with death themself? He wasn’t sure why but he’d always felt some sort of connection with the gods, Time specifically, even before he was forced to join the clergy, so maybe he was destined to kill god.

Today, Lux found himself in front of one of the oldest tapestries of them in the whole of the capital. It depicted both Time and Space, however the bottom half where Void was was burnt and frayed to the extent that no one could really be sure. Lux had his suspicions that it was not Void. Under further scrutiny Lux could see what looked to be, the top of someone’s head, someone with fiery red hair, a feature Void was never pictured with.

As Lux was trying to inspect the tapestry further, The Dove walked in. Lux’s heart dropped, almost forgetting he had been a cleric for two years now, and was as good as dead to everyone he’d ever loved. Only Owls or clerics of higher ranking could see the tapestry, so he usually would’ve needed a minor promotion to see it. Luckily, that was the reason Lux was in the capital. He had pilgrimaged there over the past few months, and had finally arrived yesterday, relieved to finally sleep in a familiar city.

“Ah! Your excellency!” Lux exclaimed as he dropped into a bow.

“You may stand Everbough.” The Dove calmly whispered

“Y-Yes your excellency.” Lux stuttered as he raised himself, making a point to keep his head bowed and not make eye contact with The Dove.

The Dove glanced over to the tapestry.

“I see you’re making use of your new position then?”

“Of course your excellency! I had heard about it years ago and was curious to see it.” Lux croaked.

“Do you know why only the most devoted can see this tapestry?” The Dove queried.

“Uh-uhm, No? Sir…”

“This tapestry is supposedly one of the artifacts made by the changelings, so you can probably guess as to why it is in the state that it is.”

“It is a shame their artifacts had to burn with them,” The Dove walked closer to the tapestry and touched his hand to the charred part.

“So much knowledge, lost to the hands of Time Themself…”

The two of them fell silent.

“You should go… now.” The Dove commanded.

“Yes, your excellency.” Lux replied.

The Dove waited a moment to make sure Lux was gone before he addressed the unwanted visitor that was hiding in the shadows.

“What do you want?” The Dove hissed, tracking the thing around the room.

“…HIM…DANGER…” The creature rasped gesturing to the door.

Everbough? Dangerous? Please, he’s nothing more than just another ignorant cleric, who, honestly, far too trusting for their own good.”

“…HE…SMELLS…TIME…” It groaned

The Dove scoffed.

“I didn’t know you liked jokes.”

“…DON’T SAY…DIDN’T WARN YOU” The thing cautioned as it returned back to the darkness from which it was born.

The Dove watched it creep back, not wanting to acknowledge the fact that he too, smelled Time on Everbough.
