“I'm home!”
A beam of light spilled into the apartment.
“Hello?” A shout. Closing the door, the room turned to darkness.
“Jun…?” A whisper.
Kazumi hadn't gotten used to the feeling of coming home alone. Leaving alone. Being alone. She didn't think she ever would.
Living with Jun reminded Kazumi of the endless limbo of a sleepover morning; like with every step she had to take care not to disturb the universe.
Slumped against the table, the clock ticked on. Without purpose, Kazumi's hand reached for the TV remote. Noise filled the room. Her stomach rumbled.
Better wait for Jun.
Kazumi was a ray of light, and Jun was a black-hole. Living in the same space, but never meeting; it was better this way. Jun had to be careful not to swallow her entirely.
Like usual, Kazumi was hunched over the coffee table, the TV blaring nonsense.
I should wake her. Her uniform will get crumpled…
But she didn't. Jun liked these moments— moments where she could bask in Kazumi's brightness without the worry of corrupting it.
Asleep, her face looked relaxed and carefree. Youthful and innocent.
Jun reached out a hand, then hesitated.
What kind of fool am I?
