Summary:

Kier starts to feel weird around Dev but can't explain it.

Chapter 1: Manhunt (not ft. Kier)

Summary:

Boosfer invites only Dev for a manhunt

Chapter Text

“You’re so bad at the game,”

Kier hears the laughter coming from Dev’s room through the thin walls. He can’t hear Boosfer, but he knows that he and Dev are calling and filming a manhunt together. Something about how much fun Dev seems to be having leaves Kier feeling salty even though earlier Dev assured him that Boosfer only needed one hunter for this manhunt.

Tired of moping around in his room, Kier decides to go see what Dev’s doing and possibly annoy him. He tiptoes through the hallway before nudging Dev’s door open so he can peek inside: Dev is at his computer and seems to be mining in the game while talking to Boosfer through his headset.

“I only lost because I didn’t have gear, dumbass,”

Kier rolls his eyes at Dev’s typical refusal to take a loss like a regular person. He steps further into the room, still unnoticed by Dev. As he gets closer, Dev’s laugh makes him freeze for a moment. It pisses him off that it’s not because of him, but he can’t help but smile at how genuine it is. Kier continues to creep closer until he’s standing right behind Dev’s chair.

He grins before wrapping his arms around Dev’s shoulders from behind.

“Jesus Christ!” Dev exclaims, practically jumping out of his seat. “Kier? What are you doing in my room?”

Kier takes pride in how he startles Dev. “Oh, nothing. Just wanted to see how much fun you’re having without me,”

Kier can hear Boosfer’s laugh through the headset but can’t make out what he’s saying. Dev sighs and pats Kier’s arm which is still around him.

“See, I knew he’d get pissy about this,” Dev says, likely to Boosfer. “It’s just one manhunt without you, Kier. You’ll be fine,”

Kier lets go of Dev’s shoulders and stands up, crossing his arms.

“Um, I am not ‘pissy’. I was just curious since you’re being so loud over here.”

This time, Kier faintly hears what Boosfer is saying through Dev’s headphones: “Dev, can you tell your girlfriend that not everything is about him?”

Boosfer is just being his usual teasing self but it still makes Kier bristle. “I heard that you fu-”

“Kier! Can I just have one hour to record without you interrupting?”

Dev’s outburst shocks Kier who’s not used to seeing Dev actually irritated because of him. He scoffs, taking a step back.

“Fine. Take all the time you want.” Kier is aware that he’s probably acting unreasonable, but he’s bored and feels left out, so he doesn’t care. He turns around to walk out of Dev’s room but feels a hand on his wrist.

“Wait-” Dev sighs, looking up at Kier from his chair with a pleading expression. “Stay here, okay? I’ll give you my Switch.”

Kier wants to refuse and ‘prove a point’ by leaving Dev in the dust, but he’s finding that hard.

“Why should I? You obviously-”

“Please?”

All Kier’s previous thoughts of being stubborn melt away at that one simple word. He feels his face heating up and quickly pulls his wrist out of Dev’s hold.

“You- That’s not fair…”

That’s when Dev knows he’s won. He unplugs his Switch from the charger near his desk and hands it to Kier. “Here. You can lay in my bed.”

Kier groans, still pretending to be annoyed but barely feeling it anymore. He takes the Switch out of Dev’s hand with a bit more force than necessary and (fake) angrily plops down onto Dev’s bed with it.

Dev fondly smiles at Kier’s childish antics before he turns his attention back to the manhunt.

“You better cut all that out, Boosfer,”

Kier starts playing Mario Kart on Dev’s bed while occasionally glancing at Dev doing the manhunt. After completing a few races, he sets the Switch down on his lap and just watches Dev who’s currently entering the Stronghold after Boosfer. He continues watching for a few minutes as Boosfer and Dev battle in the end.

“Come here, Boosfer!” Dev calls out with a grin, his usually cockiness on display. Kier, who was watching Dev’s gameplay, turns his attention to Dev himself. His eyes trail over the way Dev’s fingers move quickly across the key board and how the muscles in his forearms flex as he plays. Dev suddenly shouts a cheer, and it takes Kier a few seconds to look back at the monitor and realize that it’s because he won the manhunt.

Kier watches the celebration silently from Dev’s bed, fighting back a smile. Dev finally notices Kier is watching him.

“That was for you, baby,” Dev jokes like usual, but for some reason it makes Kier’s heart rate jump up.

“You’re such an idiot…”

Dev and Boosfer wrap up their recording session and Dev leans back in his chair after shutting his PC off. He glances at Kier again who’s still staring like he’s expecting Dev to say something.

“What, are you still upset or something?” Dev says in a tone softer than usual as he gets up and walks to his bed.

“No,” replies Kier, crossing his arms.

Dev huffs and sits down on the bed next to Kier. “I know you too well for you to get away with lying to me.”

Kier feels their shoulders brush which causes him to lean away from Dev.

“It’s the truth,” Kier avoids looking at Dev because doing that makes him forget what he’s about to say.

Dev has a sympathetic expression as he studies Kier’s face for any signs of deception.

“Look, I’ll tell Boosfer that we only come in a package deal from now on.”

Kier feels his face heat up again and he quickly gets off the bed.

“You don’t have to do that,” he says, dashing away before Dev can get another word in. Dev is left feeling confused and worried from Kier’s strange behavior. He decides to give Kier some space for the night and gets ready to go to bed himself. Before he actually goes to bed, he sends Boosfer a text to hopefully get some more insight on whether he did something wrong.

Dev:

“Boosf”

“Do you think Kier’s actually mad?”

Boosfer:

“Huh”

“What for”

Dev:

“For excluding him”

Boosfer:

“He’s just being a crybaby cuz ur attention wasn’t on him for once”

That message makes Dev pause and think before scoffing at how ridiculous the sentiment is.

Dev:

“No way”

“If he wanted my attention he wouldn’t just storm off when I tried talking to him”

Boosfer:

“Hold up, he stormed off?”

“I thought he was playing things up for the camera”

Dev:

“Guess not”

Boosfer:

“Weird”

“But he’ll probably forget about it tomorrow cuz he’s Kier”

Dev:

“Ig”

“Anyways, I’m gonna go to bed now”

“Don’t forget to cut out Kier from the recording”

Boosfer:

“Awww but the fans will love it”

Dev:

“Boosfer.”

Boosfer:

“Jeez, fine”

“But you owe me for the lost views”

Dev snorts as he shuts his phone off and turns to lay on his back. He hopes Kier is just having a temporary tantrum and that he’ll be normal tomorrow.
