[SCRAPPED/UNFINISHED] Win some, lose some // WINNER & LOSER PERFORMERS AU FIC

Summary:

Heyyy so uhh this was written uhh I'd assume in Oct-Nov 2025 idk.. I kinda found it in my google docs cause I remembered I had it and I don't think I'll finish it cause I realized chapter stories aren't really my thing.. but lmk if you want more of this AU & feel free to ask any questions in the comments. I'll paste the planned description rn:

Desc: Winner and Loser. They were once inseparable, the pop-rock duo that ruled stages, stole the hearts of fans, and could be seen everywhere. As their fame grows, and more opportunities arise, uncertainty starts to spring from Winner as they begin to question the life of stardom Loser had always wanted, but had they?

OR

AU where Winner and Loser are humanized and also a pop-rock performance duo. This fic takes place in the near past, say late 2000s or early 2010s.

Notes:

Notes I found in the doc:

NOTES:

For anyone curious, the fic is in third-person perspective and has multiple chapters. They’re also humanized and have human lives in my fic, so keep that in mind while reading.

Winner: Non-Binary, (They/Them)

Loser: Male, (He/Him)

Feel free to leave light constructive criticism in the comments as I’m still new to fanfiction, and I hope you enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

CHAPTER 1

The door was shut. Winner was off in their room, writing music as they always had been. It’d been something they were passionate about, dating all the way back to when they were in middle school. Despite their noticeable lack of, well, employment.. Winner seemed better off enjoying themselves, lost in a world full of lyrics of any kind. Many seemed to notice their spirit when it came to writing, or just literature in general. They were never extraordinarily great about subjects people took notice of such as Science, Math, or History, writing just seemed to be the one thing that for them, just clicked. Unfortunately, most places weren’t looking for such creativity, which devastated Winner. They often wondered what else could be out there, or if maybe, just maybe..

They could make their own opportunities.

—---

Loser sat on his bed in his light yellow-covered room. On his wall were a few trophies of random awards he’d won, each colored in a falsified golden which fit the theme of the room. He had been much of an overachiever back in his school days, often reaching as far as his arm would let him. He was popular, yet so was Winner, and each and every person was amazed by his potential, often going into full on ramble sessions on what he could do in life.

But now?

Loser was just as his name; a loser.

He was a young adult now, with no plans for the future, completely burnt out from the hell of work. Similarly to Winner, Loser didn’t have a job at the moment.

Both, sadly, unemployed, and making a total waste of their lives.

I’m sure there’s more out there! He thought. There has to be more out there.

Somewhere..

—----------------------------------

It was another, mundane morning as Winner wrote away in their lyricism notebook. They had taken an interest specially to music and songwriting recently, more specifically songs with a certain.. Feel to them. They were writing away, completely drowned in a word full of angelic lyricism, rhymes seeming like they fell down from the heavens. That is, of course, until a message appears on their very own cellular phone’s screen.

A message, in particular, from their best friend Loser.

A message from Loser? They thought.

Just what could it be this time..?

________________________________________________

LOSER: Hey Winner! How have things been?

WINNER: They’ve been.. Eh, good, I suppose. You?

LOSER: Same as always.

WINNER: That’s good to hear. Probably.

LOSER: We should catch up soon!

WINNER: Yeah, I’d like that.

LOSER: How about Goiky Park around Noon?

WINNER: Sounds good!

________________________________________________

It was a particularly bright day, with only a few clouds in the sky and a cool breeze accompanying the sunlight. Goiky Park was mostly empty, as it was a Wednesday at 12:30 in the afternoon. Fall was rapidly approaching, and the weather was evident of that very statement. There were hardly any children, as most were in school.
Winner arrived first, placing themselves down on a bench, closely observing the few people that were present in the park. Elderly couples, or new parents with children such as toddlers or babies. All with their lives (probably) figured out. Many of Winner and Loser’s friends, similarly, had gone off to pursue their own dreams. Some to colleges, others to businesses, or charity work, or..

Loser arrived just a few minutes after Winner, his smile visibly showing, displaying only a mere sliver of how ecstatic he felt to be seeing his best friend again.

“Winner! It’s been a minute since I’ve last seen you!” Loser called out, speedwalking towards his best friend’s bench.

“Loser! Great to see ya!” Winner exclaimed back, giving Loser a light hug as he reached Winner’s standpoint.

“How is everything?”

“Didn’t you.. Ask that already?”

“It’s better in person.”

“I suppose..” Winner continued. “Here, have a seat.” They said, sitting down on the hazel-esque bench right behind. Loser followed, placing himself closely to Winner while still giving his friend some space.

For a moment, they both sat in silence as Loser conjured up the right words to say. After all, he was the one that had asked Winner to meet up with him in the first place.

“Sooo.. Winner..”

“What did you need to tell me, Loser?”

“Well, I was thinking..”

“Can you stop stalling, please?”

“Huh?”

“Sorry. I just don’t like when people do that.” Winner glanced at Loser for a moment before shifting their gaze back to the ground. “You can continue.”

“I’ve been thinking recently. And, well, since we’re unemployed and have nothing better to do, maybe we could.. Spend some time together. Make a song together!”

“I- Really? If you want to, I guess. I only really write, though..”

“Don’t be ridiculous! I’ve heard you

That's it LOL
