Work Text:
Vasic sits in the sand and stares at his hands. They're nominally clean, but he would swear he still feels blood on them.
There's the pop of displaced air that means a teleport. Vasic doesn't have to look to know the person sitting down beside him is Aden.
"It had to be done," Aden says, voice cool, but Vasic thinks he can detect forbidden sympathy.
He nods without looking away from his hands.
"Silence was supposed to put an end to the murders," Vasic says, knowing how close he is to things forbidden himself.
"I believe there are fewer." Aden says.
"I'm not sure I do," Vasic says, knowing it is treason, but no longer caring. If Aden turns him in, he's not the man Vasic thinks and he doesn't want to live in a world without the Aden he's come to...know.
"Understandable, given the things you've seen," Aden says calmly, quietly.
It feels like a gift, a confidence freely given. Vasic vows to be careful with it.
