I Make U Purr

Work Text:

The silence of the Seoul apartment was a luxury, a rare commodity bought with the sweat and exhaustion of a fourteen-hour dance rehearsal.

The air was thick with the scent of post-rehearsal fatigue—salty sweat and the sharp tang of adrenaline—but beneath it, the domestic scents of their bond were beginning to bloom. Jeonghan’s scent was like a forest after a storm: deep cedarwood, rain-drenched moss, and a hint of something sharp and metallic, like the edge of a blade. Joshua’s scent was the perfect counterpoint: sun-warmed lavender, Earl Grey tea, and the soft, velvet sweetness of a ripe peach.

"Shua-ya," Jeonghan murmured, his voice a low vibration that seemed to cut through Joshua’s exhaustion.

Joshua was currently a heap of limbs on their oversized sofa, his head tilted back against the cushions. He didn't open his eyes, but a small, tired smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "I’m too tired to move, Hannie. Just leave me here. I’ll become part of the upholstery."

Jeonghan chuckled, a rich sound that originated deep in his chest. He didn't leave him there. Instead, he crossed the room with the silent, predatory grace of an Alpha in his own territory. He sat down at the edge of the sofa, lifting Joshua’s legs and placing them across his own lap.

"You smell stressed," Jeonghan noted, his fingers beginning to knead the tight muscles of Joshua’s calves. "The choreography was hard today."

"Hoshi is a demon," Joshua sighed, finally opening his eyes. They were bleary and red-rimmed, but they softened the moment they landed on Jeonghan. "He kept making us do the bridge over and over because the 'energy' wasn't right. I think my energy left my body around 4:00 PM."

Jeonghan’s expression shifted. The playful glint in his eyes vanished, replaced by the intense, simmering heat.

"Come here," Jeonghan invited softly.

Joshua didn't hesitate. He crawled across the sofa and into Jeonghan’s waiting arms. This was their ritual. Before sleep, before food, before anything else, they had to realign their bond.

Jeonghan pulled Joshua into his lap, his hands splayed across Joshua’s back, pressing him close until there wasn't a whisper of air between them. He buried his face in the crook of Joshua’s neck, right where the Omega’s scent gland was most potent. He inhaled deeply, drawing the scent of lavender and peach into his lungs, letting it settle his own restless Alpha energy.

"Hannie," Joshua whispered, his hands winding into the soft fabric of Jeonghan’s hoodie.

"Quiet," Jeonghan murmured against his skin. "Just breathe."

They sat in the dim light for a long time. Jeonghan began to scent him, a slow and deliberate process. He rubbed his cheek against Joshua’s, his jawline grazing the sensitive skin of Joshua’s throat. He was marking him, not with a bite—though the permanent mark was already there, hidden beneath Joshua's collar—but with pheromones. He was telling the world, and more importantly, telling Joshua’s own biology, that he was safe. He was home. He was protected.

As the minutes ticked by, the tension began to drain out of Joshua. His breathing slowed, becoming rhythmic and deep. His muscles, which had been knotted with the stress of the day, finally began to loosen.

And then, it started.

It began as a faint tremor in Joshua’s chest, so subtle that Jeonghan almost thought it was his own heartbeat. But as the Omega relaxed further, sinking his weight entirely into his Alpha’s strength, the tremor grew into a sound.

It was a low, resonant vibration. It wasn't a hum, and it wasn't a vocalization. It was a physical frequency that seemed to emanate from the very marrow of Joshua’s bones.

Jeonghan froze, his breath hitching. He pulled back just an inch to look at Joshua’s face.

Joshua’s eyes were closed, his long lashes casting shadows on his cheeks. He looked utterly serene, his expression one of pure, unadulterated contentment. His lips were parted slightly, and every time he exhaled, the vibrational sound grew stronger.

It was the Purr.

Joshua, with his polite upbringing and his carefully curated gentle persona, almost never purred. He was too controlled, too aware of his surroundings, too busy taking care of others to let himself go that completely.

But here, in the dark, with Jeonghan’s scent wrapping around him like a heavy silk blanket, Joshua Hong was purring.

The sound vibrated against Jeonghan’s chest, sinking through his skin and into his heart. For an Alpha, there was no greater reward. It was more intoxicating than any drug, more rewarding than any trophy. It was the sound of his mate being perfectly, entirely happy because of him.

Jeonghan felt a rush of protective love so strong it was almost painful. His inner Alpha let out a silent, triumphant sound. Mine. Happy. Safe.

"Shua-ya," Jeonghan breathed, his voice trembling. "You’re purring."

Joshua didn't open his eyes, but the vibration stuttered for a second as a small, sleepy smile appeared. "I can't... help it," he whispered, his voice sounding like it was floating on a cloud. "You feel so good, Hannie. Your scent... it’s so quiet."

Jeonghan’s eyes burned. He tightened his grip, pulling Joshua back into the hollow of his shoulder. He began to rock them slowly, a gentle, swaying motion that synced with the rhythm of the purr.

"Is that what I am to you?" Jeonghan asked, his voice a rough whisper. "Quiet?"

"The loudest person in the world," Joshua murmured, his nose nuzzling into Jeonghan’s pulse point. "But your heart... when I’m here... it’s the only quiet place I have."

The purr deepened, the frequency changing as Joshua shifted to get even closer. The sound was so resonant now that it seemed to fill the entire room, a golden hum of domesticity that blocked out the rest of the world. It was the sound of every "I love you" they had ever said, every secret they had ever shared, and every hardship they had ever overcome together.

Jeonghan felt his heart rate slowed to match Joshua’s. The world outside the apartment—the grueling schedules, the expectations, the constant noise of fame—it all ceased to exist.

There was only the vibration. There was only the scent of cedar and lavender. There was only this.

"I love you," Jeonghan whispered into Joshua’s hair.

Joshua didn't answer with words. He didn't need to. The purr spiked in volume for a moment—a joyful, vibrating thrum—before settling back into its steady, hypnotic rhythm.

They stayed like that for hours. The moon moved across the sky, casting long, silver shadows across the floor. The temperature in the room dropped, but they didn't feel it. They were a closed loop of heat and sound.

Eventually, the exhaustion of the day finally won. Joshua’s purr began to slow, turning into a soft, intermittent huff as he drifted into a deep sleep.

Jeonghan, however, stayed awake a little longer. He wanted to savor every last second of it. He watched the way Joshua’s chest rose and fell, the way his fingers were still curled into Jeonghan’s hoodie even in sleep.

He thought about their journey. He thought about how hard Joshua worked to be "perfect" for everyone else. How he carried the weight of being the oldest American member, the polite member, the stable member. It was a lot for one Omega to bear.

But here, in Jeonghan’s arms, Joshua didn't have to be any of those things. He could just be a creature of instinct, a being that expressed his joy through a vibration in his chest.

I will protect this sound for the rest of my life, Jeonghan vowed to the silent room.

He carefully shifted, lifting Joshua into his arms to carry him to their bed. Even as he moved, Joshua let out one final, sleepy purr against his neck, a subconscious signal that even in the transition, he felt safe.

Jeonghan laid him down on the soft linens, the "nest" they had built over the years with familiar pillows and shared blankets. He climbed in beside him, pulling the duvet over both of them.

Joshua immediately sought him out in his sleep, his body gravitating toward Jeonghan’s heat like a moth to a flame. He tucked his head under Jeonghan’s chin, his breathing evening out.

As Jeonghan finally closed his eyes, he could still feel a ghost of the vibration in his own chest. It was a phantom limb of sound, a reminder of the gift Joshua had given him.

He realized then that the purr wasn't just a sound of contentment. It was a bridge. It was the way Joshua told him that the world was okay, as long as they were together.

And as the sun began to peek over the horizon, painting the room in soft hues of pink and gold, the only sound left was the quiet, steady breathing of two people who had found their home in each other.

The purr had ended, but its echo remained, a permanent part of the atmosphere of their lives.

Jeonghan’s last thought before he finally succumbed to sleep was a simple one: Tomorrow, I’ll make him purr again.

And he knew, with the absolute certainty of an Alpha in love, that he would spend every day of his life making sure Joshua Hong had a reason to vibrate with joy.

The vibes, as Jeonghan would say, were finally perfect.

The sunlight was insistent, poking through the gaps in the curtains and landing directly on Joshua’s face. He groaned, shifting his head to hide from the light, only to realize he was tucked into a very warm, very solid chest.

The memories of the night before came flooding back—the exhaustion, the sofa, the overwhelming feeling of safety, and... the sound.

Joshua’s face heated up. He remembered the vibration in his chest, the way his instincts had completely bypassed his dignity. He had purred. He had actually, legitimately purred like a kitten for over an hour.

He felt Jeonghan stir beneath him.

"Good morning, my little motor," Jeonghan’s voice rasped, thick with sleep and teasing.

Joshua buried his face deeper into Jeonghan’s chest. "Don't. Please don't."

"Don't what? Don't mention that my mate is the most precious Omega in the world? Don't mention that you sounded like a high-end sports car idling in my lap?"

"Hannie!" Joshua swat at his chest, his ears turning a bright, vivid pink. "I was tired! My instincts were... acting up."

Jeonghan laughed, the sound vibrating against Joshua just like the purr had the night before. He grabbed Joshua’s chin, tilting his head up until their eyes met. Jeonghan’s gaze was soft, filled with a tenderness that made Joshua’s heart skip a beat.

"It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard, Shua," Jeonghan said seriously, his thumb brushing over Joshua’s lower lip. "Thank you for trusting me that much."

The embarrassment in Joshua’s chest evaporated, replaced by that familiar, warm glow. He looked at Jeonghan—really looked at him—and saw the devotion mirrored in his eyes.

"It only happens with you," Joshua admitted softly.

Jeonghan leaned down, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to Joshua’s forehead. "I know. And I’m going to make sure it stays that way."

Joshua smiled, and for a second, just a tiny second, a small thrum started in his chest again.

Jeonghan’s eyes lit up. "Wait! Was that—?"

"No!" Joshua laughed, scrambling out of bed. "I’m hungry! I’m going to make coffee and some French toast!"

"You can't run from the purr, Joshua Hong!" Jeonghan shouted after him, grinning as he watched his mate flee the room. "The Alpha hears all!"

As Joshua stood in the kitchen, the sunlight streaming through the window and the smell of coffee beginning to fill the air, he felt a small, secret vibration in his chest. He didn't try to stop it this time.

He was an Omega, he was in love, and for the first time in his life, he didn't care about being a gentleman. He just cared about being home.

"I hear it!" Jeonghan’s voice echoed from the bedroom.

Joshua just smiled and started the coffee. The vibes, indeed, were 10 out of 10.
