Chapter Text
The last thing Beatrice remembered before she passed out was her husband pulling the skin on his head back, a sickening sight revealing his teeth in an inhuman way. She must have been dreaming. Edgar must have hit her harder than she thought last night. She expected to wake up in the same spot she passed out in- on the floor in the kitchen. As she opened her eyes it was to her surprise that she felt her bed beneath her. Did Edgar carry her to bed? That didn't seem like him.
Beatrice sat up, just in time to hear footsteps coming up the stairs. Edgar. Thank god. She would lay eyes on her, admittedly abusive, husband, and realize that everything that happened last night was a dream. She sighed, half out of her usual resignation, half out of relief. That was until she saw him round the corner into their bedroom doorway. His skin was still "hangin' off his bones" like last night.
She nearly passed out again.
Edgar stumbled into the room, and sat down on the end of the large bed. Beatrice flinched, scrambling back.
"Wh-What did'ja do with my Edgar…?"
The thing pretending to be her husband looked a bit taken aback, until he sighed, and tried his best to smirk. His voice came out significantly more gruff than it normally was.
"You're tired honey. Go back to sleep."
Was he serious…? She glanced at the clock by their bedside. it was 6:48am already. Edgar usually wanted her awake and cooking breakfast by 6:30.
"…Back to sleep..?" He nodded at her.
"You were up late last night." He slurred out. "Get some more rest."
"But… Edgar, what about breakfast?"
He looked confused for a moment, and Beatrice thought he was about to laugh. Shake off this weirdness and reveal it all to be an elaborate joke- perhaps to test her loyalty or something.
But instead he smiled again. Her Edgar, SMILING. The only thing that man ever smiled about was his beloved truck, and last she remembered it got wrecked last night. Wait- what did crash into the car?
"Don't worry about it. Go back to sleep." It sounded like an order now. She nods and lays back down, and closes her eyes, hoping that maybe this WHOLE situation was a weird dream.
It wasn't.
