Work Text:

You listen to the phone ring with a groan. You knew Frank was working, but he also knew that if you called while he was working, something was up. Four rings before he picks up, clearly out of breath from a strenuous case. “Hey, baby, you ok?”

“Frank…” You whine out, throat coated with snot, making your voice rumble deep in the back of your throat uncomfortably and making something flare inside him.

“You ok? Did you just wake up? It’s almost 2 PM.”

“I think–” Cough, “Hot… I think I have a fever.” You groan, turning into a coughing fit.

“I’m going to call you back in just a sec, alright?” He smiles gently, hearing you groan, hanging up the phone. “Hey, Robby?”

“Yeah?”

“I need to go.”

“What?”

“My partner just called me. I think they’ve got a fever, and I’m getting worried.”

“As long as you get someone to cover your workload.” Frank nods, glancing around and finding Whitaker.

“Yo, Whitaker! Can you do me a favor?”

“Depends on what it is.” Dennis glances up over his computer.

“MY partner just called me… just woke up with a probable fever, and I need to get back. Can you take over my cases? I think I’ve got three right now.” Dennis nods gently. You were well-loved around the pitt, known for bringing coffee and bagels.

“Absolutley. If you need anything from here, just call.” The taller man nods before moving to his locker to quickly grab his things and make his way home.

“I’m home!” He smiles softly at the groan he receives in response, setting his bag down and kicking his shoes off before moving to your shared bedroom. He looks around, seeing the stack of discarded tissues on the floor, the empty water bottle, and the flu medicine on the bedside table. “Howare  you feeling?”

“Like I’m sitting on the sun.” You whine, making him gently touch the back of his hand to your forehead.

“Can I be a doctor quickly?” You nod softly, slowly sitting up, your body feeling like wet concrete. He slips the cold bell of his stethoscope under your shirt, making you shiver uncomfortably as he listens to your lungs. “Thrown up at all?” You shake your head softly, leaning forward to lean it on his shoulder. “That’s good, it means you don’t have the flu. I think you’ve just got a really bad cold.”

“What now?” You mumble as he gently rubs your back.

“Soup, warm bath, cuddles?”

“Please.” You mummer, looking up and frowning.

“What’s the frown for?”

“Can’t kiss you.” He grins, kissing your forehead.

“After you take some more medicine, alright?” You nod slowly, letting him help you up. You wrap yourself in a warm blanket and waddle after him to the kitchen, watching him grab a can of soup from the cabinet. He puts it on the stove before pouring you a large glass of water and two pills beside it. “Drink all of that, take that medicine, too.”

“Yes, Dr. Langdon.” You cough with a smile, making him roll his eyes as you swallow the pills.

“Sickness and health, baby.” He smiles, lifting his left hand and tapping his ring. Your insides go gooey at the gesture, watching him move to grab a bowl. He pours the warm soup into two bowls, sliding one of them to you before sitting beside you.

You eat in silence, soft grumbles of happiness leaving you as the food helps you perk up. He makes sure you finish off the water before setting all the dishes in the sink. “Thank you.”

“Always. Go grab some clothes for us while I start the bath, you up for that?” You nod, waddling back to the bedroom. You grab two of his shirts, one pair of your underwear, and a pair of his boxers, folding them neatly before padding into the bathroom. “Want to be in the dark?”

“Can you go grab that candle I like?” He nods, squeezing your side and kissing your forehead. When he comes back, he lights the candle and helps you out of your clothes and into the tub. A groan of relief leaves your lips as the hot water surrounds you, the aches lightening. His body moves in behind you, pulling you against his chest.

“You’re like a furnace.” He frowns, pressing his cheek to your forehead and pulling you closer.

“I’m surprised Robby let you leave early.”

“The Pitt’s favorite bagel and coffee deliverer was sick, and we couldn’t let that happen.” You nod gently, snuggling further against him.

“Thank you for all of this… really.”

“I promise you this at the altar.” He whispers. “ Sometimes I still wonder why you said yes.”

“Because you care enough to do things like this. Some guys would just make the soup and leave me to my own devices. Some wouldn’t even come home. But you did. And that matters. It’s why I love you.” His smile grows as he looks down at you lovingly. He presses a loving kiss to your lips, even with your soft noise of displeasure. He pulls away, lifting your left hand from the water and admiring your ring.

“You’re gonna get sick…” You whine, and he kisses your knuckles.

“You promised me sickness and health, too. And I wouldn’t mind you looking after me.” You can’t help but smile at his words, kissing him gently again.

“I love you.“ You whisper gently.

“I love you more.“ He grins, pulling you closer, smiling at your soft sniffle.
