Chapter Text
Recording opens on a shot of a kitchen; not particularly expensive-looking, not dirty nor homely in the slightest. Two voices can be heard arguing off to the side, their words too far-off for the microphone used to capture audio.
A logo fades in to the side of the only visible member, gathering what looks to be ingredients for the recipe—presumably the channel’s. Right after, below the logo, fades in the words Cream Mushroom Soup in Arial font.
The video itself has a text-to-speech voice narrating the text shown on screen; this will be referred to as “VOICE”. The recording cuts to a top-down view of the counter;
VOICE
Seven ingredients are used for this recipe. White button mushrooms, olive oil, butter, onion and garlic, flour, milk, vegetable broth, a bay leaf and seasonings of your choice.
A lanky hand pours olive oil and a piece of butter down a pan. On the right side of the screen displays the text 2 tablespoon olive oil - 1 tablespoon butter.
VOICE
Heat up olive oil and butter in a large heavy bottom sauce pan over medium heat. Once the butter is melted and the oil is shimmering, add onions. Stir every once in a while and cook until softened.
Previous text is replaced by 1 cup chopped onion, 12 ounces sliced mushrooms. The cuts in-between clips are very choppy.
VOICE
Once it is finished, add in the mushrooms and repeat the process for four to five minutes. When it’s golden, add in the garlic, seasonings and bay leaf. Cook for one minute. After, add the broth and bring it to a boil and add in milk.
The last ingredients appear on the screen as the same hand from before continues stirring each time something new is added, these being 3 cloves garlic, 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, 1 bay leaf, 3 cups vegetable broth, 2 cups whole milk.
VOICE (cont’d)
That is all. These ingredients are not fully set in stone. If there is something you think would be better than what I used, I want to know.
The recording cuts again and we are brought to a shot of a round table; two bowls are placed on top and with a gray ladle the soup is served. The camera is picked up by the person from the beginning before showing a shot of a man assumed to be in his early thirties humming in thought whilst tapping his fingers against the bowl. He grins, flashing a thumbs up.
Fingers cover the screen this time; a conversation is heard in the background.
???
Do I really have to do this?
The microphone just barely manages to catch rhythmic tapping dubbed morse code in response to the other speaker.
???
You don’t. I’ll cut it out
??? (abruptly)
No. I’ll do it.
They both pause momentarily, assumed to be the other person trying said soup.
??? (cont’d)
Yeah, uh. You’re getting good at it. It’s good, but mushrooms are… Not good. And it has a lot of lumps.
The recording fades to black. The last frames before the video cuts off show white text; I’m glad they liked it. I’ll keep it in mind for next time.
