Work Text:

Both girls were aloft in the air, bodies now feeble after fighting with unrestrained effort; Ochako's quirk dwindles, prompting them to gradually fall down. Holding each other close, Toga then separates herself from Ochako, mere inches apart.

"Am I... cute?" Toga asks the brunette, her eyes glossy, while grinning from ear to ear.

Ochako stares at her fondly, weak chuckles emit from her before answering Toga's question.

"..The cutest," she coughs, her voice becoming more hoarse as she delivers the rest of her line; "in the world."

And with that, the two of them are on the ground. Blood on her face, uneven breathing, and her body weak, there was nothing she could do;

Ochako passes out with guilt heavy on her shoulders. She was not able to defeat Toga, though a part of her also doesn't want to. Lest that the most worst, but most possible outcome of Ochako and Toga's battle, is the blonde dying.

On the ground, the brunette lays there, dormant. But before she could fully enter a state of disorientation, she felt something pointed pierce her on the skin.

After that, Ochako was out cold. For what felt like minutes, (definitely more) the brunette felt something—no, someone, cling to her body. She forces her eyes open, even if it physically tires her out even more. From there, all she sees is blonde hair in her line of vision.

She simultaneously felt numerous emotions thrusted to herself all at once; grief, sorrow, regret, bitterness, anger, and the last one was unfamiliar.

Her heart fluttered due to the comfortable, unguarded position they were in. Toga was hugging Ochako from the side. Memories come flashing back in her head, the pointy thing that stabbed into her; it was Toga's weapon. Wait, don't tell me she—

Toga, who is now dead, but died with a content smile on her face, had saved Ochako from dying of blood loss. She saved me.? Ochako couldn't believe it; for someone to go through so much trouble to keep her staying alive. Not only that, but it was Toga.

She feels tears start to accumulate while she tries to let out a desperate shriek, in hopes to still be able to help the blonde.

Ochako knows that it's futile. She knows that Toga is already deceased; but she has to try. For Toga. For herself.

Although, the lump in her throat does nothing but foil her plans; nothing comes out except for the choking sobs and quiet wails from Ochako.

She tries to move her limbs, but everything is numb. The only body part she could move without much effort, was her head. She looks around the area, she can't hear much at all; everything is muffled.

All she can do for now is to wait for back up. Ochako weakly turns her head to look at Toga before falling back into unconsciousness again.

The next time Ochako emerges from her comatose state, she was laying on her back, flat on a hospital bed.

With bleary eyes, a clean and sanitized scent infiltrates her nostrils. A few seconds of processing everything, Toga instantly congests Ochako's brain. Where is she now? Spiraling in her thoughts, the door to her hospital room slides open.

Ochako's homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shouta, goes inside unannounced.

"Uraraka, how are you doing now?" With a tired mundane voice, Aizawa questions.

"A-Aizawa-Sensei! What are you doing here?"

He looks bewildered, ".. I'm your teacher. I'm here to check on my student."

Ochako hums, "You're right. but, what about the others? Are they doing okay?"

"They're doing fine. How are you holding up?"

She feigns indifference, but not being able to help Toga resides heavy in her chest. "I'm doing fine!" Smile small, though still bright.

Aizawa raises his brow, but ignores her tense behaviour. And for that, she is thankful.

"Alright. I'll be checking on the other students now. Make sure to rest, Uraraka."

With a fist placed on her chest and a determined look, "I promise I will, Aizawa-sensei!"

Aizawa nods as a response, and quietly leaves the room, dragging his IV pole along.

Alone again, she has no where else to wander off to except for her mind. Reflecting on the events, is Toga really dead, or was Ochako's memories just not recalling the battle right? She really hopes that it's the latter.

Ochako doesn't know why, but she still has a desire to talk with Toga. To understand what she likes, to understand her feelings, to understand her.

Ochako needs to do that, she wants to do that. I can't just abandon her, that's not right; that's not what a hero would do—not what a friend would do! I should've asked Aizawa-sensei while he was still here, while I still had the chance; the chance to know. As if pondering was physically exhausting her, she felt her eyes slowly close, vision eventually turning noir.

Just like last time, Ochako shuts her eyes with tears flowing freely down her face. But this time, there was no one there to console her. No one to hug her. No one to make her feel warm again.

She went to sleep; cold, and empty inside. What was going on in the battlefield, unfortunately stayed there. Along with the warmth from a certain blonde.
