This better be important..
Heels clicked on asphalt as an automaton wandered through empty road. The moon shone high above the city, glimmering through a thin layer of fog. Streets lay silent at this late of an hour, leaving only two figures in the dark.
Cecilia came to a stop beside the bay, emerald green eyes glowing in the dark. The wind-up key on her head spun in lazy circles as she looked around.
Her gaze landed on a familiar short figure, but something was off. Was that.. a suit?
"Gigi!" She called, storming over to the gremlin. "It's two in the morning. Why did you call me out here?"
The figure turned, and Cecilia's steps froze.
The gremlin, who usually wore jackets and crop tops and chaotic oranges, was wearing a suit. And a fancy one at that. It was a subtle, burnt orange with a few adjustments on it for mobility.
Gigi grinned, holding out a bouquet filled with blue poppies, a single white evergreen almost shimmering in the center. "Hey! So glad you made it, Cece~"
Cecilia stared. "What in the hell is going on.." she muttered, scratching her head. She glanced around, but there was only mist and quiet buildings. "Did I get poisoned or something? A bug in my system? Am I hallucinating?!"
Gigi chuckled, shaking her head. She nervously tucked a strand of brown hair behind her ear, completely unnatural for her usual energy. "Nope! I just.. wanted this night to be special."
Cecilia tilted her head, squinting suspiciously. "Wait, what's tonight? Is this a prank?"
"Tonight's the anniversary of when I found you!" Gigi cheered, bounding around the confused automaton. "Remember that? Can't believe Liz let me run around and recruit people."
Cecilia matched Gigi, turning around and keeping her eyes trained on the shorter girl. She sighed, a small smile forming on her face. "Ah right, it's in my memory somewhere. You literally tackled me and begged me to join Justice."
"HAH!" Gigi cackled, hands on her hips as she moved around with ease. "I was on my knees, begging for five minutes straight until you cracked!" She grinned, shoving the bouquet into the automaton's hands. "Totally worth it, though~"
Cecilia giggled. "Now, funny seeing you in a suit. Never thought you could pull one off this well."
Gigi brightened, tail swishing behind her. "Oh! Liz and Raora helped me pick this out!"
Cecilia raised an eyebrow. "Wow. I wasn't invited?"
"It was a surprise!"
Cecilia giggled again, music to Gigi's ears. She gently lay the bouquet on a nearby bench, brushing down one of the poppies. "So, are we gonna do anything?"
The grem grinned mischievously, skipping over to the automaton. "Well, we're all alone~ we could go kiss kiss~" She leaned in, lips puckered.
Cecilia shoved her away, huffing in amusement. "I will punch you, Gigi."
"Worth a shot!"
"But seriously, Gigi." Cecilia sighed, brushing down her ornate skirt. "You could've done this at headquarters instead of out.. wherever this is."
"But where's the fun in that?" Gigi hummed, taking Cecilia's hand in her own. Her touch was surprisingly gentle. "Dance with me?"
The automaton rolled her eyes. "Really? You can't even dance a waltz if your life depended on it," she scoffed, but she still let the grem tug her along.
They settled in the middle of the bayside, hands on each other's hips and shoulders. Waves crashed gently against the concrete barriers as crickets provided their oddly pleasant hum into the night.
"Let's go slowly," Cecilia said. "Follow my steps. And if you step on me I will throw you over the railings."
Gigi giggled, setting her hand on the automaton's waist. "Not if I throw you off first!"
Cecilia rolled her eyes and started to hum a gentle melody. "Follow me," she repeated, softer. She made a slow step with her left foot, which Gigi mirrored, and then brought her right foot to meet.
The two girls continued on, stepping slowly to the melody Cecilia hummed, while Gigi tried her best to follow along the steps.
She's actually doing well.. Cecilia thought, giggling to herself. She raised Gigi's arm above their heads and twirled her around, the grem making a "Weeee~!" sound as she spun around.
She actually looks.. handsome in that suit, she thought, glancing up and down appreciatively. Guess Liz really knows her stuff.
"This is nice.." she sighed to herself. The clockwork key spun a little faster as the grem fell back into her arms.
Gigi perked up, shifting her gaze from her feet to the automaton. "Did ya say something?"
"No no, it's just.." Cecilia trailed off, glancing to the side. "It's nothing."
I can't say it to her..
Their tempo slowed, and the grem seemed to notice.
"Come on, enjoy the night!" Gigi said with the most impish grin on her face.
Before she could react, Gigi grabbed her by the waist, lifting her around with ease. The grem spun the automaton around, making both of them dizzy with flushed cheeks.
Cecilia let out a breathy chuckle, kicking her feet in the air. "You idiot, put me down!"
"Never!"
They both dissolved into giggles, spinning and dancing far into the night. The hours ticked on by and the slumbering city slowly stirred behind them.
Cecilia stared into Gigi's eyes, playful pink eyes meeting lively green.
I wish I could say it out loud..
She shook her head, chuckling to herself.
But you're the most important thing in the world to me, you idiot.
