Work Text:

There are a lot of qualities that Holmes likes about Watson, but one of the biggest ones is his courage. Holmes finds himself unable to sleep and with nothing to do so he decides to ponder over all the things about Watson that he likes most.

Watson has been a loyal companion to Holmes for many years. Accompanying him on cases, relaxing at 221B in an evening, and taking care of Holmes when Holmes is unable to take care of himself. Watson is always ready to help Holmes in any way - with few questions asked until after the fact - and there are few men more reliable than Watson.

Holmes finds himself thinking of all the times Watson has saved his life when in a dangerous situation and his appreciation of his dearest friend grows tenfold. Watson and his revolver have proven time and again that they are the most brave and trustworthy friends a man could have.

Holmes was never used to having a companion upon whom he could rely. But the day he met Watson he knew that something was different about him than everyone else he had tried to room with. Even from that very first meeting he knew that Watson was an incredibly brave man, and he has only shown that fact more and more over the years.

Holmes smiles to himself when he thinks of his kind and courageous companion and how he chooses to devote his life to him. He will never understand why Watson gives so much of himself for Holmes, but he will always be thankful for it, even if he doesn't always find the words to say it. There is no denying that his life has been greatly improved by Watson and that he strives to make Watson's that little bit better every day.

Watson has many, many traits that make him an ideal companion. But he is nothing if not fiercely courageous.

Notes:

This felt a bit repetitive to me as I wrote it, so apologies for that. I may or may not be running out of ideas and low on brain power which is not a good combo.
