It was a warm day in april and the sakura tree’s are in full bloom so you decide to study outside during your lunch break. On your way outside you accidentally bump into Naoya Zenin , a popular bully from your class whose newest target happens to be you, even tho you tried not to draw attention to yourself.
"Excuse me." You say bluntly, trying to escape the situation as quickly as possible, after all you wanted to study.
"Oh, so you can talk, amazing." Naoya replied mockingly "Could’ve missed hearing that ugly voice of yours tho."
You don’t react, you know arguing will only make it worse, things like this don’t hurt you, after all you went through so you just say:"I’ll head out now."
"Chill, you know I’m not being all serious." he says in laughter, but you know he was, he wants to be mean, he dislikes you since you first entered the classroom, when you didn’t play along with his jokes and just focused on your studies instead. You ignored him and hurt his ego.
Just as he was about to open his mouth again his friends call him and you use the opportunity to leave.
When he turns around and sees that you’ve disappeared he just mumbles "Fuck…" to himself and catches up with his friends.
Character introductions
Finally you can focus on your studies. You sit on a bench, unfortunately the field where the boys are playing football is right next to you so it’s quite hard to focus. The sound of the popular girls from your class cheering for them is making it even harder. Mei Mei is the Queen Bee of the school, everyone knows how flirty she is with the boys and her dating list goes on and on, from naoya, to ryomen, to toji, to satoru, with whom she’s just broken up recently, rumors even say she did it with your homeroom teacher Nanami, but you don’t believe that, he’s a decent man and helped you out when you transferred, he wouldn’t do something so wrong. Next to her is Utahime, everyone, even you, knows she has the fattest crush on Satoru, well everyone but him. You’ve never seen anyone make it so obvious. Sometimes you wonder if they even get along, because Meimei was in a relationship with Satoru just recently, you don’t care that much though. The other girl next to them is Shoko, she’s okay actually, you haven’t talked often but she seems nice, after all she’s with the popular girls and you’re just an outcast. She’s also pretty close with Satoru and Suguru.
Satoru is by far the most popular person in this school, he’s good at sports, good at academics, has many friends, every girl likes him, everything just seems to fall into his hands. You’d like to deny it, but you often find yourself jealous of him, he has everything and you have nothing.
Life has never really been easy on you. Your parents died when you were ten and left you alone with your little brother whom you needed to take care of ever since. The two of you live in the cheapest and most dangerous district of tokyo, after all its all you can afford. You, a sixteen year old, need to pay the rent for two people, you don’t have anyone else to support you or help you out. You’re currently working five jobs at the same time and need to balance it with school, not to mention all the weird people you meet when you have to get home late at night, you often carry bruises. But for you it’s all worth it, for your little brother Shin, he’s all you have left and just maybe you will get out of this misery one day if you work hard enough, atleast that’s what you hope for.
You’re very tired and struggle to stay awake, but your math homework needs to be done now, since you won’t have any time later. "What’s 2a - 3x + (3-1)? Fuck I should know this we just studied this yester-" you think to yourself just as a football suddenly hits your head hardly.
You put your hand onto your head, this hurts way more than expected. Just as you look up you see someone coming your way, to your surprise it’s Satoru, what could he possibly want from you?
He kneels sown in front of you and says:"Can we have the ball back?"
What the hell? You expected and apology! He could at least have said a please or something like that, but what did you even expect? He’s the most popular guy in school so he must be on the same level Naoya is, or even worse, who knows…
You shoot him an annoyed look and hand him the ball "here." you say coldly.
He takes the ball from and turns around without saying thanks or anything. Just as you are about to get back to your homework Suguru suddenly interrupts, " Seriously Satoru? Don’t you have any manners? Apologize and take her to the Nurse now, be a gentleman." he orders Satoru, shooting you an apologetic look. The other guys nod and agree with Suguru.
Satoru just stands there for a moment, debating what to do, to your suprise he actually drops the ball and yanks your arm, quite harshly though. “ This really isn’t necessary! I’m fine!” you blurt out, trying to pull away, but his grip is too strong. " Let’s just get this over, do you really think I fancy stopping to play, to bring you the nurse now?"he replies, his voice having a hint of annoyance.
Geez, what a jerk you think to yourself, if you only knew what’s to come back then.
