The Wind and The Rain

Summary:

Aaren is so supportive, and Romeo is so glad that they met, when they could so easily not have done, but love doesn’t change the fact that Romeo is an exile now, adrift in the unfamiliar.

Notes:

Written for the febyuri day 3 prompt “rainy day”. Got behind and then did the catchup out of order so I’m posting it all at once.

Work Text:

Romeo shivers as the rain beats down, and steps a little closer to Aaren. She is still so unaccustomed to this, and it seems impossible to ever adapt. Everything is so different outside of Orzammar, and the weather is only a small part of that, but a hard one to adjust to. Much of this has been a hard adjustment, in truth. Aaren is so supportive, and Romeo is so glad that they met, when they could so easily not have done, but love doesn’t change the fact that Romeo is an exile now, adrift in the unfamiliar. Love is a comfort, and a gift, and she is glad she has it. She just wishes things were easier. Love fits in oddly to her life of back-alley brawls and dirty work, out of place in much the same way she feels as she walks in the rain. She has loved before, but not like this. The care she felt for her sister and Leske was one forged in a mutual struggle. She hopes they are both as safe as anyone can be, in a place like theirs. The differences are stark. For one, she has loved but not been in love. For another, what she has with Aaren has nothing to do with anything that she has previously forged a connection over. In some ways, she supposes that being connected because they are both Wardens isn’t so different, but it feels new and exciting. Aaren is so patient with her, when the surface world confuses her. She has never had a connection as free of tension as the one she has with Aaren. It is a patient love that they share, whatever happens to them both. So they walk side by side in the rain, Romeo shivering, and know that they will be fine, as long as they are together.
