Work Text:
Romeo watches Morrigan, as she folds up the clothes Kieran left on the floor. It’s strange, seeing this. She cannot help but think of Morrigan as they first knew each other, when they were two young women deeply out of their depth, though neither of them would have wanted to admit it. Back then, they were both freshly away from their homes, both dealing with a storm of emotions. Morrigan was a long way off from realising her attraction to women, then. Both of them had some experience in combat, but nowhere near enough. Now, Romeo is the Hero of Fereldan and its Warden-Commander. So too is she an aunt and a mother. She, Zevran, and Morrigan share care-taking duties for Kieran. He’s a cheerful child. Sometimes, watching him, she sees Morrigan looking at him with quiet grief, and knows her thoughts are going in the same direction hers so often do. Could she have had that buoyant, fearless cheer, if she had been safe as a child? She suspects Morrigan, like she, does not entirely wish to consider the answer. But she is proud, that the group of them, and Morrigan especially, are raising a child better than they were raised, happier than they ever were, and as safe as they can keep him.
