Work Text:
Momo fills with jealousy as she watches Camie flit around, flirting and laughing.
This was supposed to be the night.
The one where she finally got the courage to ask the woman out.
The one where she finally got the chance to kiss her, maybe, if Camie wanted her to.
Fuck.
She’d been waiting for it all day.
Since Camie texted that she was coming to the class A party tonight, finally ready to mingle after being single for three months.
Her words.
Even though the guys in Class A aren’t her type.
Also, her words.
Momo downs her shot, drops the glass on the table and heads for the door.
She needs to get her head on straight.
Jealousy isn’t pretty on her, and she’s known it since the moment she fell for Camie.
The cool air feels like a slap against her skin, harsh and startling, but also the wake-up call she needed.
If only for a moment.
She feels better now.
Maybe she could leave.
“Momo! There you are!” Camie’s voice is high and excited, happy to see her without a slur in sight.
Which Momo expected because Camie has an early patrol in the morning.
“Hey, Camie, what’re you doing out here without a coat?” asks Momo with a huff as she tugs her own off and steps forward, carefully helping Camie into it.
“But won’t you get cold too? And I only came out to find you,” huffs Camie with an adorable pout as Momo slides her hands into the pocket of her sweater dress and steps back. Except Camie steps forward. “I was looking for you.”
“Needed some air,” replies Momo a bit stiffly.
“Well, I needed you,” grumbles Camie as she fully steps close and wraps her arms around Momo. “I’ve been trying to get the courage all night to tell you something, and then you disappeared on me.”
“Sorry, Camie, I just needed to breathe,” replies Momo with a sigh as she hugs the woman back.
“Will you go on a date with me, Momo Yaoyorozu?” asks Camie seriously as she pulls away to look at her.
The words kind of slur together with how quickly she says them, but Momo breathes a yes without a moment’s hesitation.
Camie’s whole face lights up, cheeks burning from more than the cold, and she buries her face, and a squeal, in Momo’s neck.
“I was getting jealous in there because I wanted to ask you out tonight. Been planning it all day,” mutters Momo a bit sheepishly because she wants Camie to know.
“Then can our date be tonight? The diner around the corner is great, and no one is gonna notice we’re gone,” Camie’s hopeful voice is slightly muffled in Momo’s throat, but she hears it all the same.
“Absolutely,” breathes Momo as she pulls back to take Camie’s hand.
She knows exactly where they’re going, and she can’t wait for what she knows will be a perfect first date.
