The Dance - Kai Pov
Kai stood near Nya's bed and let her check over his phone. Skylor had been texting him a lot, mostly about finally taking him out somewhere fun that she found on her own, but also asking about what he'll be wearing out. Nya hummed in thought before lowering Kai's phone and looking over at him, snapping a picture quick before sending it.
"I'll see if she thinks that outfit's 'gay enough' for the club you'll be going to." Nya spoke up, but shrugged back at Kai. "I think you look perfectly fine as is."
"Ya sure it's not err, 'too much'?" Kai turned around in Nya's full length mirror. As he moved the metal discs attached to the sash around his hips jingled and sent little rays of light across the room. Other than the sash, Kai wore maroon tights and a black crop top that was cut to have slits along the rib area. "Or ah, 'too little'? I'm feelin' quite exposed with this much skin showing, but it's also freeing?"
"I mean, you could always go and ask the guys what they think."
"Nya if we all laughed our asses off seeing Zane in a pink apron, they're gonna take one look at me and howl. I'll never live it down."
"Nah, nah, I think Cole would at least have a nosebleed."
Instinctively Kai lifted up a hand to his own nose, checking to make sure he wasn't bleeding as his face flushed. Thankfully Kai's phone pinged and took Nya's attention away before she announced what Skylor had sent.
"She says 'looks great, now get your ass out here'." Another ping and Nya added, "Oh and she says she's waiting at the noodle shop for you."
"Thanks," Kai took his phone back and gave Nya's hair a ruffle, "If I'm not back before noon tomorrow give me a call. I might be hungover."
"Well at least try and stay safe," Nya snickered. "Oh and don't forget that your phone can read your messages out loud to you."
"I know, I know, I just wanted some sisterly advice on how I was dressin'. Alright, guess I shouldn't keep 'er waiting," Kai waved goodbye as he slipped out of Nya's room.
He quickly made his way back to the shared bedroom with the guys, rifling through the closet to find a jacket that'd cover up his chest. Ah! There it was, Kai's red faux leather jacket with the black studding. Once he put it on he scurried over to the living room where he heard the other four focused on playing a video game.
Lloyd and Jay sat on the floor, aggressively button mashing as their characters in the fighting game duked it out. Cole and Zane sat on the couch behind them, Cole's legs bracketing Jay's sides while Zane sat cross legged. Kai glanced at the screen again and saw that Jay's character was currently winning, but that Lloyd had already taken two of the five wins.
"Hey, I'm headin' out to go hang with Skylor. Already told Nya if I'm not back by noon tomorrow ta call me, but I'll try and be home tonight." Kai cautiously broke the focus.
"Was that you jingling down the hall then?" Zane prompted, not breaking his eyes away from the screen.
Cole looked over, and his eyes took note of Kai's jacket. "Oh, is Hotshot feelin' cold for once?"
"It's still spring out, it gets cold at night," Kai scoffed back as he turned away, trying to hide the flustered blush.
"Uh-huh, and you're totally not hiding your outfit from us." Cole verbally prodded.
Before Cole could attempt to get up, Kai hastily said, "Ah crap I'm makin' her wait, I gotta go guys, see ya later!" and scampered off, the flat metal beads on his sash jingling all the way. It thankfully didn't take him too long to get off the Destiny's Bounty, and he remembered to send along a quick text of 'omw' to Skylor as he used the digital maps to guide him.
He doubted he'd ever get used to navigating a city, there was just far too much going on, too many turns to remember and way to many landmarks. Finally the little voice in his phone told him that the shop was just ahead, so he turned it off and knocked on the door of the noodle house. Skylor didn't keep him waiting for long, hopping out the doors and locking them once again.
"Finally, I was beginning to think the boys had locked you in." Skylor tugged on Kai's arm before locking her elbow into his, guiding the way.
"Oh? what for?"
"For having on such a slutty outfit."
"Hey! You said it looked good!"
"Yeah, and you're going to have so many guys drooling over you." Skylor snickered, only to dig into her dress pocket, "Oh speaking of, put these on."
She handed him a set of red heart shaped glasses, and once they were on his face the world took on a red tint. "Ah, so my outfit was missing something. By the way your dress looks killer, I'm sure you'll be smothered in chicks too."
"Thanks, I put the leg slit in myself," Skylor stepped to the side to show off her whole outfit. It was a lovely orange color, with white lace around the collar and hem of the dress, and a crudely added slit up the side of the right leg.
"Yaknow, kinda surprised you don't have a knife strapped to your thigh." Kai noted before he averted his gaze from her leg. Damn she had good legs. Not as good as Cole or Zane but damn, pretty up there on his mental list.
"That's cuz its on my other leg." Skylor snickered, "I don't wanna get thrown out for having a weapon on me, but you can never be too careful either."
"Damn good thing I'm a weapon in my own right then, heh."
"But of course, who'd want to be on the wrong side of your teeth and claws?"
"Certainly not anyone who's terrified of dragons."
Kai and Skylor kept chatting about random things before finally arriving at the club. Nya had described it as a gay bar, and Kai would see why. There was a whole wall dedicated to all the pride flags, and everyone was dressed to impress. So many different styles, and backgrounds, and tastes. This was definitely a place where Kai could enjoy being himself.
Skylor got them their first round of drinks before they found a table and sat down, both of them intending to get a bit tipsy before trying to flirt and dance. A margarita for Skylor and a bahama mama for Kai, which they cheers'd together and halfway downed their drinks. They chatted halfheartedly, mostly pointing out who they thought was hot and trying to egg one another on to go chat first. Kai was nursing the first drink still as Skylor left to go try and hit on a girl, leaving Kai to watch the drinks. He watched several people dancing on the floor, let himself be swayed by the music and nodded his head along to the beat.
Skylor brought her new fling back to the table so they could kiss and chat. "Go on an' get out there, Tiger," she teased, "plenty of guys and gals lookin' for some fresh meat."
Kai finished his drink and laughed, "Maybe I'll dance my way inna someone's arms tonight. Could ya get me anoth'r onna those drinks?"
"Of course, Fruitcake. Now go wow the crowd!" Skylor shooed him off.
He wasn't exactly sure if he'd be wowing anybody, but Kai lost himself to the crowd of dancers. Jumping and dancing to the beat, being caught by a couple of dudes and joined in on a tango. Not knowing the moves made it a bit awkward, but the guys loved his improvised footing regardless and thanked him for being cool with getting dragged in.
"Well that's part of the fun of being in a crowd, isn't it?" Kai joked back as he flashed them a smile.
One of the men smiled and offered out a hand, "Name's Wil by the way, nice dancin' with ya. Oh an' don' be a stranger, we'd be more than happy ta dance more with ya." He in particular was dressed rather flamboyantly, but also in a punk aesthetic, along with a studded choker and pink shades. Wil nodded back to the other men with him. They nodded back to him, only to turn as a fourth joined them. She was another thing entirely, dressed in furs and a dress designed to look like ocean waves.
"Oh, has someone caught your eye?" she asked.
"Yeah Zee, this one 'ere danced like 'e had fire on his feet, which was quite funny." Wil added, adjusting his pink shades.
'Zee' hummed and looked Kai up and down, "Well I'd love to have a dance if you're up for another one."
Kai shook Wil's hand quickly and nodded to the woman, "Yeah, I jus' wanna sit down with my drink fer a bit an' get some more energy. I'm Kai by th' way."
"We'll be 'ere 'til th' crack of dawn whenever yer ready," Wil beamed.
After waving to the group, Kai made his way back to his and Skylor's table, finding her to be oblivious to the world in a kiss with the chick she brought over. Kai smiled fondly and let it slide, sitting down and focusing on his refill. Downing half the drink again, Kai smacked his lips with a soft hum and thought about chugging the rest. Shrugging the thought off he let himself relax at the table, checking his phone and finding a few messages from the guys. Kai opened up the group chat and held his phone up to his ear, letting it read out the messages.
[Getting Our Shit Together]
Perfect Pebble: Hey Kai let us know if you need us to pick you up
Frostpop: (Image)
Bluebird: Zane will you stop sending chicken scratch?
Frostpop: That is Old Ninjargon, something Kai is more adept at reading than modern Ninjargon. You should know this by now.
Bluebird: Ugggh yeah whatever
Bluebird: Anyway why didn't you say you were going to a club??? Kai are you singing without me???? 8((
Perfect Pebble: And dancing without me??? :( :( :(
Perfect Pebble: Kaaaiii???
Bluebird: YEAH KAI
Bluebird: TALK TO US DUDE
Bluebird: You better not be getting into any trouble
Perfect Pebble: especially without us!
Frostpop: I am positive Kai is merely enjoying himself a reasonable amount. He will probably return home and tell us all about it when he's ready.
Kai couldn't help but chuckle at the exchange. Weren't they on the couch still, so why were they texting back and forth with each other? Checking the time, it was almost midnight. Hissing in a concerned breath, Kai stood up and tapped the table, "Hey Sky, I'm runnin' to the bathroom quick, I'll be back."
"Yeah, yeah, have fun." Skylor shooed him away again as she finally broke free of the kiss. She sat back and fondled the girl she hooked up with as they fondled her back.
Kai picked his way through the crowd and finally got to the bathroom. Inside it was a lot quieter, so Kai pulled out his phone and left a voice recording. "Hey guys, I promise I'm still alive, just got stuck dancing for a good awhile—" A yawn broke through Kai's concentration and he tried to rub the sleep out of his eyes, "—I ah, I'll try an' be home soon, gonna finish my drink and maybe have one last dance before draggin' Sky outta 'ere." He sent the message along before pocketing his phone, turning one of the sinks on and splashing cold water in his face. One last dance and then he'll head home.
