C00lkidd heard the door slam, and in the dark he saw the flash of the open door in the dark house.
His father was home late again, a new record, two in the morning…
C00lkidd looks over at the front door from his spot at the kitchen window, trying to spend the time working on poetry.
“’m home.” He heard his father mumble, and C00lkidd’s nose scrunches at the smell of weed.
“I made dinner, just mac ‘n cheese but-“
“You’re too young to cook, I told you to stay out of my damn kitchen.” The 23 year old grumbles, staggering into the kitchen and grabbing a mug, filling it with sinkwater. C00lkidd’s tail wraps around his leg, hoping his dad would just go to bed.
“Fuck I’m sorry, thanks for the food. There isn’t exactly a class on this whole ‘having a kid’ thing is there?” There was, but 007n7, a famous hacker, probably wouldn’t be allowed to join.
“No there isn’t.” C00lkidd agrees, managing a smile for his father.
“See, you get me. You don’t judge, you ain’t whiny like some of the other kids I’ve seen..” He yawns, leaves without saying goodnight, C00lkidd lets out a breath.

C00lkidd had school this morning, but he knew better than to ask his dad for a ride. He might as well skip- kindergarten was too simple for him, all the other five year olds acted like—well, like five year olds. C00lkidd was already too smart for them, but since 007n7 didn’t come to any of the parent teacher meetings, they couldn’t move him up a grade.
C00lkidd grabs his backpack, his lunch, and walks out the door, his dad is sprawled on the couch laughing with one of his friends, probably going to go out later. It was good for C00lkidd, it just meant he got to spend more time with miss Pr1mr0se, his babysitter.
The walk to the downtown area of Blox Springs was pretty far for a kid his age, and he had to tell a few people he was heading to meet his dad at Big R Burgers.
The last time he’d been there *had* been with his dad, but it was two years ago, he got a mini mashed potato and sat in a high chair, and his dad had been on a date with some purple guy.
He even remembered the conversation, the purple guy saying how much of a “genius” c00lkidd is, meanwhile 007n7 was gushing about being such a good father. And he had been, those first three years. But then the purple guy stopped coming around, and C00lkidd grew up.
He’s shaken out of his thoughts by a car horn and he scrambles onto the sidewalk- he’d wandered onto the road. The car was familiar, and the man getting out of it even more so. A tall blue drakkobloxxer hybrid, teeth turned up in a brace-faced smile as he hurries over to c00lkidd.
“Hey little guy- You’re far from home huh? Schools the other direction.” Bluudude, his babysitters boyfriend, and by far the C00lest guy C00lkidd knows. Bluu treats him like an adult- or at least not like a baby.
“I’m not going, I’m sick of them talking- there’s always so much noise. I wanted to stay home but..” He shrugs, Bluu and Pr3tty didn’t know everything about 007n7, but they had assumed c00lkidd’s dad was just overworked supporting them both.
“You know, I probably shouldn’t be doing this, but how about I just join you?” The taller mans tail sways back and forth. “You know, just two bros hanging out… maybe I’ll invite Pr3tty?” C00lkidd knew right away that Bluudude just wanted to keep an eye on him, but it was a better plan than hitchhiking, so he nods.
“Yeah, I mean, I guess we could…” He gets into the car, four more years until he can get in the front seat, for now he’s satisfied with the back.
“Perfect!” The Blue man climbs in.
Bluudude’s car wasn’t usually the cleanest, but Pr3tty must have made him clean up for once, because the car was practically spotless except for a few crumbs here and there.
They drive to Big R Burgers is smooth, Bluudude humming along to some cheesy country song about a man and his truck or something, C00lkidd is too focused on his thoughts to pay attention.
What if Bluudude told someone he was skipping? Told his *DAD* even? C00lkidd would probably get beaten- not that 007n7 had ever beaten him before, but he’d gotten angry enough to punch a hole in the drywall once, and C00lkidd had to sleep outside that night.
How many nights would he sleep outside for this?
