Work Text:
“Do you think you’d like to get married some day?” Joseph asked in the quiet as Caesar laid across his bare chest.
“Married? Amore, we’re both men…”
“And? I love you, Cae.”
“I love you, too, Jojo. It’s just very illegal for two men to get married.”
“I… I know… it shouldn’t be…”
“Hey. The second they pass the law, I’ll take you right to the courthouse.” Caesar pressed gentle kisses to his jawline, even as Joseph’s lips were hidden behind the hamon mask.
“Not before I can give you an epic proposal, you won’t,” Joseph said, letting himself melt back into his boyfriend’s affection.
oOo
Caesar couldn’t draw a full breath. He couldn’t use his Hamon.
It took the last of his energy to climb the stairs up to Wamuu.
He must look truly pathetic if the ancient being allowed him to get so close.
“Your life is over,” Wamuu said, calmly turning away.
And when my life with Jojo was just beginning… Caesar thought. I would have liked being able to marry him one day…
He couldn’t marry Joseph without a ring. Filled with resolve, he launched himself forward, ripping the ring right off Wamuu’s face.
“I am not afraid to die. But I am part of Jojo’s family. He is my life. Something like that might mean nothing to an inhuman monster like you. I had been nothing but rude to Jojo, and he nearly sacrificed his own life to save me from you. I didn’t get enough time with him… I have to do something.”
Even as blood flooded his lungs, he untied his bandana, sliding the ring onto it.
“Jojo! This is my last gift!”
oOo
“Jojo! This is my last gift!” Joseph heard Caesar yell. His heart stopped.
“No… No, Cae!” He ran toward the hole in the building, even as light flashed, nearly blinding him.
He saw just in time to see the love of his life down on one knee.
“‘Til death do us part…” Caesar said, smiling at him, blood dripping from the corners of his mouth.
Just in time to see as a rock fell from the ceiling.
A red-tinted bubble floated toward him.
A red-tinted bubble with Caesar’s bandana.
And a ring.
Joseph sobbed as the bubble popped, delivering the final offerings to his hands.
As Caesar’s final hamon rushed through his veins, he understood what was meant.
“I do.”
