Chapter Text

Kim Dokja

The wind came rushing past as he pushed his little legs to run faster, trying to get away from his attacker. He had been out near the edges of the city when an arrow flew past him. Another grazed him before he could start running. He yelped and started escaping, leading himself further away, but the thing shooting at him kept it's pursuit. A quick left turn behind a house, a slip under the fence, he lead himself deeper into the city in blind panic.

By the time he had realized he wasn't being chased, he had already gotten lost in the bright lights and bustling sidewalks littered with people. He forced his breaths to come slow and steady, letting his racing heart calm down. It was dark where he stood, the only light coming from the end of the alley, the only window to light. Footsteps sounded and swift limbs scurried on the busy sidewalks in front of him. The alley reeked of decaying trash, the bins overflowing behind him. He scrunched up his nose in disgust.

I'm lost and stuck in a stinky alleyway, just great. Why couldn't I just run deeper into the forest? Back to the safety of tree logs and tall grasses? Well, not that that might be any better. It would be easy to track him in the forest. Should I just find a human to take pity on me? Yeah right, who would want a fox. Well, at least there should be food scattered around, better than eating raw meat filled with bones and organs I guess.

The fox sighed, making up his mind to go deeper into the city to hopefully find some food. Perhaps he could survive here, eat something that actually qualifies as edible. But as he stepped into the busy sidewalk a leg came bashing into him, the pain bursting through him and reminding him of the injuries he already had. Shit, who the hell walked into me? He looked up to find a tall dark man frowning down at him. He stilled at what laid before him.

Eyebrows seemingly drawn by a single, uninterrupted stroke of a famed artist’s brush; a nose and a chin shaped in perfect angles that defied attempts to measure them through mere devices of men; a pair of deep eyes seemingly carved out of a beautiful jewel containing all the misfortunes found in this world. If someone saw those features and not get immediately drawn in by them, then there must be something wrong with that person.

A frightening scowl knocked him out of whatever trance he was in and he quickly came back to his senses. The hell dude! Watch were your walking! is what he wanted to say but all that came out were undignified little yelps and barks. The man leaned down, noticing the blood trickling to the ground and picked him up by the scruff to carry back home, cursing under his breath.

HUH? WHAT'S HAPPENING?! WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUC--

He had been walking home from his outing of getting groceries, Mia had been grumbling for the past week about wanting murim dumplings and he finally gave in. The store was empty, save for the single employee running around restocking the already filled shelves. He had grabbed what he needed, paid, and left to go back to the cold air outside, chilled from the start of winter.

The freezing wind turned his uncovered ears red and the soft snowfall landed on his broad shoulders. He grumbled to himself for not thinking ahead by grabbing a scarf. The last thing he needed was a cold, he already had enough trouble taking care of Mia and working out that contract with a company about playing an up-and-coming game on his streams. The incompetent bastards kept making unacceptable terms and it took a good 3 hours to work out all the kinks. His head hurt just thinking about it.

He walked swiftly, trying to get back home to the comfort of warmth and safety as fast as he could. And because of that he wasn't paying attention to where he was walking. Something walked into him and a whimper followed. He looked down to see a snow white fox with feet dipped in ink and a tail tip to match. The small creature looked startled, staring up at him with big eyes, he could almost see stars in them. He frowned. What is a fox doing in the city?

The fox started barking, as if he was the one at fault, well it kind of was but he would never acknowledge that. He bent down to see clearer, bending over to get a good view of the small creature. It was barely taller than a shoebox. Frowning, he looked closer, noticing the blood coming down the side of it's leg. "Shit." It's wounded. He cursed some more. It's not like I can just leave it here, it will bleed to death. Besides, Mia would be disappointed if she ever found out. And with that he picked up the little creature by the scruff and once again started his journey home.
