Work Text:
Charon lay on the couch, eyes on the ceiling, arm dangling limply off the side. She sighed heavily, a hand to her forehead like a damsel in distress.
“Oh, when will he get back?” she questioned, a pout on her lips. She grabbed her phone from the coffee table and checked her messages. “He hasn’t seen my texts…” she muttered, staring at the gray tick on her screen.
Her mind started racing with possibilities. Where did he go? Did he get hurt? What if he was with someone else? What if—
Alright, snap out of it, Charon!
Such an overthinker, always imagining the worst. Pluto was probably doing completely fine. But…
She couldn’t help but worry her head off. Pluto had been gone for hours, obviously her mind was gonna torture her about it.
She typed out a message, her thumbs moving swiftly across the screen.
“pluto?”
“pluto where are you”
“pls respond”
And she waited.
And waited, and waited.
Still, no response.
Half an hour passed, yet a response from Pluto was nowhere to be seen. Charon was spiraling. She paced back and forth, rocked herself on the floor, sent an excessive amount of voicemails—you name it.
She flopped onto the couch, grabbing fistfulls of her hair.
When was he gonna come home?!
Ugh, where in the—
A sudden twist of the doorknob.
Charon’s head snapped to the door, eyes widening in surprise and hope.
The door creaked open, and there he was—Pluto.
“Pluto!” Charon exclaimed, hopping off the couch and throwing herself onto her partner. Her arms tightened around his shoulders, her tears soaking the fabric of his jacket.
Pluto stiffened at the sudden embrace, his arms frozen at his sides. “Woah there, Charon… What’s up with you?”
“Where were you?” the moon whined, shaking the dwarf planet’s shoulders.
“Hey, hey, calm down!” Pluto grabbed Charon’s hands and held them still. “I told you, I was at the store—”
“Then why’d you take so long? And why didn’t you respond to my texts? Or pick up my calls?”
Pluto rolled his eyes. “Traffic jam. And…” He pulled out his dead phone from his pocket and held it up to Charon, whose cheeks flushed pink in embarrassment.
“Oh.”
